U.S. and its Allies Have a Record of Military Interventions That Leave Nations More Unstable- Sowore;

Activist Omoyele Sowore has issued a word of caution on Sunday, November 2, 2025, criticizing the recent rhetoric and threats emanating from the United States regarding Nigeria's security challenges.

His comments follow the extraordinary diplomatic escalation triggered by President Donald Trump, who on Friday designated Nigeria a "Country of Particular Concern" (CPC) over religious freedom violations, citing an "existential threat" to Christians.

The designation, which carries the possibility of sanctions, was fiercely rejected by the Federal Government, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu asserting that the characterization of the nation as religiously intolerant was inaccurate.

The diplomatic spat intensified significantly on Saturday when President Trump followed the CPC designation with a direct threat of military force.

He announced he had instructed the Pentagon to prepare for potential action, including deploying U.S. forces with "guns-a-blazing" to eliminate "Islamic Terrorists" if the Nigerian government failed to decisively address the killings.

Sowore cautioned Nigerians against celebrating any foreign military intervention, regardless of the alleged motive to protect Christians.

He argued that the historical record of U.S. military engagement in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya demonstrates that such actions invariably leave nations more unstable, failing to bring salvation through bombs or boots on the ground.

The activist stressed that external solutions would not resolve Nigeria's deep-seated problems.

Christian, Muslim, animist, or non-religious, no one should celebrate such rhetoric. The United States and its allies have a long record of military interventions that leave nations more unstable than before. They failed to secure peace in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, or Syria, and they won’t bring salvation to Nigeria through bombs or boots on the ground."

He added, "What Nigeria truly needs is not a foreign savior, but legitimate, accountable leadership, one that protects all citizens, upholds justice, and ends the cycles of corruption and violence that have left the nation broken."

He concluded by asserting that deliverance for the nation must be an internal affair, coming from a national renewal, rather than from any foreign power or savior.

BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu fails to open defence, cites denial of access to case.

The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, on Friday failed to open his defence in his ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu told the court that he could not proceed because he had not been given access to his case file to enable him familiarise himself with its contents and prepare adequately for his defence.

The development came a day after Kanu dismissed his legal team, led by former Attorney-General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi, SAN, opting instead to represent himself.

When the case was called, prosecuting counsel Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, reminded the court that the matter was fixed for Kanu to begin his defence.

But taking the stand, Kanu explained that those meant to deliver his case file to him in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, could not gain access to him.

He, therefore, prayed the court for a short adjournment till Monday, October 27, to enable him access the case file and prepare for the defence.

Kanu also informed the court that he expected witnesses from several countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Kenya and Ethiopia, and sought an order allowing him to meet visitors over the weekend to facilitate his preparation.

Awomolo did not oppose the application, prompting Justice Omotosho to direct the DSS to permit Kanu to receive visitors on Saturday and Sunday.

The judge adjourned the case till October 27 for the defendant to open his defence, warning that the six days allocated to Kanu to present his defence would not be extended.

Former Nigerian lawmaker and human rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani, has reacted to reports that Cameroon’s electoral commission has declared incumbent President Paul Biya as leading with 53% of the votes in the just-concluded presidential election.

In a post shared via his official X handle on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Sani commented on the development, suggesting that the opposition may soon challenge the outcome through legal means.

“The Cameroonian electoral commission seems to have settled for Paul Biya with 53% votes. If this is finally confirmed on Monday, the opposition leader may have to ‘go to court,’” the senator wrote.

BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyers Withdraw, IPOB Leader To Defend Himself

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has sacked his legal representatives.

Kanu Agabi, on Thursday applied to withdraw from representing the detained IPOB leader, stating that the defendant had taken the case back from them.

All the Senior Advocates of Nigeria on the defense team have also withdrawn from the suit, a development Nnamdi Kanu himself confirmed in court.

Kanu told the court that he would be representing himself for now, though that might change later. When the judge asked if he should be assigned a lawyer, he declined the offer.

Defending himself orally, Kanu argued that the court lacks the jurisdiction to try him.

BREAKING: Kanu's Family Reacts To Claim That Sowore Intentionally Handed Aloy Ejimakor And Emmanuel Kanu To FG

The family of Nnamdi Kanu has reacted to several claims that former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore intentionally handed Kanu's lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor and his brother, Emmanuel to the Federal Government.

The reaction of Kanu's family was contained in a report that was published on the official X handle of DAILY POST on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

The statement surfaced after Aloy Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu and several other people were arrested during the protest that was organized by Omoyele Sowore in FCT.

The Nigeria Police charged Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and 10 others with a two-count offence of inciting public disturbance and breach of peace after they protested.

However, the family of Nnamdi Kanu has now responded to claims that Omoyele Sowore sold out those who were arrested. In a statement that was signed by Kanunta Kanu, the family backed the actions of Omoyele Sowore.

Kanunta stated that the activist did the right thing by mobilizing people to protest the release of Nnamdi Kanu. He said the claim that Omoyele Sowore sold out the people is untrue. Kanunta said majority of the people coming up with the claims are Igbo politicians who couldn't do what Omoyele Sowore did.

"Those pointing accusing fingers at Sowore should stop it. Saying that he sold out Barrister Aloy Ejimakor and Prince Emmanuel Kanu is incorrect.

“He did what he was supposed to do by mobilizing Nigerians to protest against injustice. Some Nigerians and Igbo politicians are peddling this lie because they are ashamed that Sowore did what they failed to do".

Breaking: Why We Teargassed Protesters In Abuja - Police

The Nigeria Police Force, has explained that the protesters in Abuja were teargassed on Monday because they violated the court order restraining them from protesting in certain areas of the nation’s capital.

The Police Force also denied blocking roads in Abuja amidst the protests which rocked the nation’s capital.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on 𝕏, explained that the Police did not block the roads, but cleared it after it was blocked by the protesters.

He added that the Police remain a law-abiding institution and only carried out its constitutional mandate to enable Nigerians have easy passage to their respective destinations.

Hundeyin affirmed that the court order restricting protesters from the A*o Rock Villa, National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square and Shehu Shagari Way remain in place.

“Police teargas protesters attempting to approach A*o Villa in clear contravention of a court order restricting protesters from the Villa, National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square and Shehu Shagari Way.

“We are the country’s foremost law enforcement agency. We carried out our mandate.

“And we did NOT block the road but cleared it after it was blocked by the protesters. This is to enable other Nigerians easy passage to their respective destinations,” he wrote on 𝕏.

Naija News recalls that the lead counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, accused the police of using teargas to disperse protesters who gathered in Abuja on Monday.

In a post via 𝕏 Ejimakor said police officers fired teargas into the air while a large crowd assembled in front of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel for the protest.

Similarly, the convener of the protest, Omoyele Sowore, accused the Police of firing unprovoked gunshots at the protesters.

FreeNnamdiKanu Protest: I Heard Nnamdi Kanu’s Younger Brother Was Arrested and Beaten- Sowore.

According to a report by Channels Television on Monday, October 20, 2025, Omoyele Sowore has accused Nigerian security operatives of launching an unprovoked attack on peaceful protesters during a demonstration in Abuja demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The protest, which took place on Monday near the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, quickly turned tense after security forces arrived in large numbers.

Sowore, who led the rally, alleged that officers from the police, army, and civil defence corps fired tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the demonstrators.

Although live rounds were discharged, no injuries were confirmed among the protesters.

Sowore revealed that several individuals were arrested during the protest, including Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother and one of his lawyers.

“Eventually, they did arrest some people. I heard Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother was arrested and beaten, and his lawyer was also arrested and beaten. They’ve all been taken to the FCT Command,” Sowore said.

According to Sowore, the protest had begun peacefully, with demonstrators gathering in accordance with constitutional rights.

The demonstration came despite an interim court order restricting protests around key government buildings, including the Presidential Villa, National Assembly, Eagle Square, and other sensitive zones.

Security forces had earlier issued warnings that any breach of the court order would result in arrests, and digital surveillance would be used to monitor those inciting protest activity online.

In preparation for the demonstration, security operatives had stationed personnel across strategic locations in the city.

Unity Fountain, the protest’s initial rally point, was sealed off, and nearby roads including those leading to the Federal Secretariat and the Three Arms Zone were barricaded.Motorists and pedestrians were denied access, causing disruptions to movement in the area.

In a separate incident, a combined team of police and military officers fired tear gas at a crowd near the Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat in the Utako area of the city.

Eyewitnesses reported that the group appeared unrelated to the protest and dispersed quickly as security forces advanced.

The protest coincided with the fifth anniversary of the movement, which began in 2020 as a call for police reform and justice for victims of brutality.

Participants in Monday’s demonstration used the opportunity to draw attention to Kanu’s prolonged detention and ongoing trial.

Kanu was first arrested in 2015 on treason-related charges.

After fleeing the country while on bail, he was re-arrested in Kenya in 2021 and brought back to Nigeria under controversial circumstances.

His legal team continues to press for his transfer to a medical facility due to concerns over his health, while political leaders and advocacy groups from the Southeast region have renewed calls for his release.
