MISINFO ALERT: Obiano not dead — ex-Anambra governor hale and hearty, says former commissioner.

Willie Obiano, former governor of Anambra, is alive and well, despite rumours circulating in some sections of the media that he had died in London.

Don Adinuba, former commissioner for information and public enlightenment in Anambra, confirmed on Friday that Obiano is “healthy, strong and residing in Texas, US”.

“The Nigerian media have been abuzz in the last couple of hours over a rumour that the immediate Anambra state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has passed on in London. This rumour has no basis. Chief Obiano lives in Texas, United States, and not London,” the former Anambra commissioner said in a statement.

“He is not just alive but healthy, strong and too agile for someone who has just turned 70 years. We thank people from different walks of life across the globe.

“The outpouring of love across the globe following the rumour shows how much Chief Obiano matters to many, almost four years after leaving public office and choosing a quiet private life abroad.

“At only 70 years, Chief Obiano has joined the pantheon of men like the Great Zik of Africa, whose rumoured death turned out to be utterly false and without any foundation.”

BREAKING: Lere Olayinka Reacts After Lt Yerima Said “You're My Junior, You Can't Even Talk When I'm Talking”

A viral video showing a confrontation between a naval officer, Lieutenant A. M. Yerima, and several police officers during a demolition operation in Abuja was addressed by Mr. Lere Olayinka, the spokesman for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

In the video, Lieutenant Yerima says, "You cannot shut me up," as he establishes authority over a police officer. Look at you, you're my junior, you can't even speak when I'm speaking. The video quickly drew attention online, generating discussions within Nigeria's security agencies about authority, respect, and procedure.

Olayinka criticized the officer's behavior in response to the incident on X (previously Twitter), noting that other senior police officers, such as the FCT Commissioner of Police, were also there. "Was the FCT Commissioner of Police, who was present, among the police officers he was alluding to here? Or even the IGP? " he questioned. As a result, are police officers no one? The debate over inter-agency rivalry and accountability was fueled by his remarks.

During official duties in the nation's capital, the episode has highlighted rising friction between Nigeria's security forces. The incident was seen by social media users as a disturbing indication of insubordination and a lack of coordination between the police and military.

According to reports, the confrontation took place during an attempt to destroy a home that was said to belong to Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, the former Chief of Naval Staff. Lieutenant Yerima's soldiers prevented the demolition, which caused a tense standoff between policemen, FCT Administration authorities, and military soldiers.

U.S. and its Allies Have a Record of Military Interventions That Leave Nations More Unstable- Sowore;

Activist Omoyele Sowore has issued a word of caution on Sunday, November 2, 2025, criticizing the recent rhetoric and threats emanating from the United States regarding Nigeria's security challenges.

His comments follow the extraordinary diplomatic escalation triggered by President Donald Trump, who on Friday designated Nigeria a "Country of Particular Concern" (CPC) over religious freedom violations, citing an "existential threat" to Christians.

The designation, which carries the possibility of sanctions, was fiercely rejected by the Federal Government, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu asserting that the characterization of the nation as religiously intolerant was inaccurate.

The diplomatic spat intensified significantly on Saturday when President Trump followed the CPC designation with a direct threat of military force.

He announced he had instructed the Pentagon to prepare for potential action, including deploying U.S. forces with "guns-a-blazing" to eliminate "Islamic Terrorists" if the Nigerian government failed to decisively address the killings.

Sowore cautioned Nigerians against celebrating any foreign military intervention, regardless of the alleged motive to protect Christians.

He argued that the historical record of U.S. military engagement in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya demonstrates that such actions invariably leave nations more unstable, failing to bring salvation through bombs or boots on the ground.

The activist stressed that external solutions would not resolve Nigeria's deep-seated problems.

Christian, Muslim, animist, or non-religious, no one should celebrate such rhetoric. The United States and its allies have a long record of military interventions that leave nations more unstable than before. They failed to secure peace in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, or Syria, and they won’t bring salvation to Nigeria through bombs or boots on the ground."

He added, "What Nigeria truly needs is not a foreign savior, but legitimate, accountable leadership, one that protects all citizens, upholds justice, and ends the cycles of corruption and violence that have left the nation broken."

He concluded by asserting that deliverance for the nation must be an internal affair, coming from a national renewal, rather than from any foreign power or savior.

BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu fails to open defence, cites denial of access to case.

The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, on Friday failed to open his defence in his ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu told the court that he could not proceed because he had not been given access to his case file to enable him familiarise himself with its contents and prepare adequately for his defence.

The development came a day after Kanu dismissed his legal team, led by former Attorney-General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi, SAN, opting instead to represent himself.

When the case was called, prosecuting counsel Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, reminded the court that the matter was fixed for Kanu to begin his defence.

But taking the stand, Kanu explained that those meant to deliver his case file to him in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, could not gain access to him.

He, therefore, prayed the court for a short adjournment till Monday, October 27, to enable him access the case file and prepare for the defence.

Kanu also informed the court that he expected witnesses from several countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Kenya and Ethiopia, and sought an order allowing him to meet visitors over the weekend to facilitate his preparation.

Awomolo did not oppose the application, prompting Justice Omotosho to direct the DSS to permit Kanu to receive visitors on Saturday and Sunday.

The judge adjourned the case till October 27 for the defendant to open his defence, warning that the six days allocated to Kanu to present his defence would not be extended.
