RANTπ
A few weeks ago, I had a phone call to arrange an intended business meetup. Nothing too serious, but I decided to do a little background check on the company first since this was their first showcase under this label.
So I spoke with one of their team members who claimed to be a major player. The moment I started asking questions, he got defensive, talking about his 28 years of experience and implying I had no right to question his expertise or acumen. I smiled and said, βEven if you were born into this industry, thatβs exactly why I need clarifications because Iβm new to it.β
Apparently, I touched a nerve. He then said something that left me speechless. According to him, women like me feel so special and usually need to be taken on a date first before investing. Whew! Imagine that.
I told him I was done talking and would rather work with someone else. Even if the deal came down to a dollar, I still would not work with him.
Later, I thought, if someone who does not pay me can talk like that, imagine what it would be like if my livelihood depended on him. Some people genuinely believe that having money gives them the license to disrespect others, especially women.
For the record, money is not my craze. I love comfort, yes, but I insist on being treated with respect.
Money is good, but it should never replace good manners, empathy, or emotional intelligence.
Because even if your money draws people close, your attitude can still drive them away.
Money without character is empty.
If you want to be truly valued, let your attitude match your wealth.
That is what makes you truly rich.
