The event, which held at the Claretian University of Nigeria Maryland Campus field,Nekede Owerri West Local Government Area, aimed to address prevalent health issues in the community, providing much-needed screenings, consultations, and medications.
The outreach focused on diagnosing common but critical health concerns such as Malaria, Hepatitis, Random Blood Sugar (RBS), Hypertension, and Diabetes. This initiative was particularly important given the high rate of these conditions among middle-aged and elderly individuals in the region.

The medical team was made up 5 Medical Doctors, two Matrons, 3 Laboratory Scientists, 10 Nurses, and other Health Volunteers.
Health Screenings and Consultations
Participants were given access to comprehensive health checks by trained medical professionals, who conducted tests to detect the aforementioned conditions. Following the tests, each participant had the opportunity to consult with doctors, free of charge. These consultations allowed patients to receive professional medical advice tailored to their individual health conditions, which is essential in ensuring early diagnosis and effective treatment.
Medication Dispensation
Medications were dispensed on-site based on the results of the screenings and doctors' prescriptions. This aspect of the outreach ensured that patients received immediate treatment for their conditions without any delays or financial constraints.
Community Impact
The outreach attracted a significant number of residents, all of whom expressed gratitude for the opportunity to receive free medical attention. Many noted that they would not have been able to afford such comprehensive care on their own. The initiative also heightened awareness about health and wellness among the target population, encouraging regular health checks and preventative measures.
Speaking on behalf of NEDA, the President Sir. Engr. Osondu Opara highlighted the association's dedication to improving the well-being of the people of Nekede. "This outreach is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that our people are healthy and well-informed about their health status. We aim to make quality healthcare accessible to everyone, especially those who may not have the resources to seek medical attention regularly," he said.
Future Plans
NEDA plans to make this healthcare outreach a regular event, expanding the range of services provided and reaching more members of the community. Plans are also in place to collaborate with more medical experts and health institutions to ensure that the people of Nekede continue to receive top-notch healthcare services.
This initiative is a clear testament to NEDA’s commitment to fostering the health and well-being of the Nekede community, and the association hopes to inspire similar efforts across other localities.
