We Were Already Released By Terrorists Before Soldiers Took Us Home – Oyo Teacher Survivor

By The Republican News

One of the Oyo State kidnapped survivors and teacher Zachaeus Olatunde has told how they were released by the terrorists before the Nigerian soldiers came to take them home.

The Republican News did write about the unanswered questions concerning the claimed operation that led to their rescue but conflicting narratives by the Federal Government, Oyo State government and the Nigerian military concerning the very same incident have the answers that something is not right about numerous stories behind the return of the victims.

In the military press statement following the release of the victims, it said that they were “unconditionally released” so, the so-called operation that led to their rescue was false. Yes, a few operations has taken place apprehending their informants and others and the military said that those operations closed the doors on the kidnappers and gave them no room than to release the kidnapped pupils. So, there was no operation to rescue them rather they were unconditionally released before the military picked them up.

One of the victims a teacher Olatunde has confirmed that to Nigeria Info FM station.

Ghana Declines State Visit By President Ramaphosa Of South Africa Over Afrophobia And Safety

By the Republican News

The government of Ghana has reportedly declined state visit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa as diplomatic tensions grow a wave of xenophobic attacks and other African immigrants in South Africa.

Diplomatic sources in Accra and Pretoria informed Daily Graphic said the decision comes amid increased escalation in anti-African attacks across parts of South Africa. The violence has caused about 13000 African migrants to return back to their respective countries. About 1000 Ghanaians have been repatriated with another 900 registered for return to Ghana.

The situation turned uglier on June 30th deadline given by anti-African immigration protesters, when a 40-year-old national , Bashiru Isak, was murdered by Afrophobic protesters.

A South African source said that Ghanaian government was “deeply concerned about safety and dignity of her citizens” and could not justify a high-profile visit “under current circumstances”

On the Ghanaian side, officials pointed to a second worry: President’s own safety, with anti-migrant sentiments running high, there were fears that Ramaphosa presence could provoke a very hostile public reaction, a risk Accra was not ready to take

South African authorities have, however, disputed Ghana's account of the incident, describing the claims surrounding the killing as "factually incorrect" and "not based on fact."

The South African government said no deaths were recorded during the June 30 demonstrations, which attracted thousands of protesters in parts of the country.

South Africa's Justice Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi, said Ghana's characterisation of the incident was misleading and risked creating a negative perception of South Africa.

"It is concerning that Ghanaian authorities continue to communicate false information about South Africa regarding developments on irregular migration," she was quoted as saying in a statement.

"The spread of false information to perpetuate the false narrative that South Africa is xenophobic is unacceptable," she added.
The development has reignited discussions over the safety of African nationals living in South Africa, with Ghana calling for stronger measures to protect its citizens abroad and prevent further incidents.

BREAKING NEWS: Peter Obi Reacts To Deregistration Order By Court in Lokoja

By The Republican News

The presidential candidate for Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the recent Federal High Court in Lokoja affecting the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, describing the decision as a serious setback for Nigeria’s democracy and warning against actions capable of weakening the country’s democratic institutions.

Obi made his position known in a statement shared on his official X handle account on Friday after learning of the court’s decision while attending official engagements in Imo State.

Obi disclosed that he began the day in Emekuku where he inspected projects he had previously funded at the Schoolbof Nursing Science including a computer laboratory, before attending the 80th birthday celebration of the Emeritus Archbishop of Owerri Most Rev. A nothing Obinna, latter proceeding to Madonna University.

According to him, it was while he was at Madonna University that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso informed him of the Lokoja court ruling.

"It was at Madonna University that I received the court news of the Lokoja court rulings through my brother, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso," Obi said.

Reacting to the development, the NDC presidential candidate said the judgement should concern every Nigerian committed to democratic governance and national progress.

"Every Nigerian committed to the country's progress should be deeply concerned. This judgment represents another setback for our democracy and the institutions upon which our future depends."

Obi lamented on what he described as a growing trend of weakening institutions that are critical to sustaining Nigeria’s democracy, warning that such actions could erode public confidence in governance.

"It is regrettable that some who claim to champion democracy now appear determined to weaken the very institutions that sustain it.
In doing so, they are undermining public confidence and endangering the future of millions of Nigerians."

He further expressed concern over what he called declining independence of key democratic institutions.

"The legislature and the judiciary are increasingly being drawn into this pattern of institutional decline. Democracy cannot thrive where institutions lose their independence and credibility."

The presidential candidate of NDC maintained that attempts to undermine Nigeria’s democratic foundations would ultimately fail, recalling that he had previously condemned similar development involving another opposition platform.

"Those who seek to weaken Nigeria's democratic foundations will not ultimately prevail. When a similar situation recently affected the ADC, I condemned it without hesitation. I do so again today because my position has always been guided by principle."

"My concern is not about who becomes President. My concern is that Nigeria works.
Our politics must move beyond the quest for power and focus instead on building a united nation founded on justice, strong institutions, the rule of law, and equal opportunity. That is the Nigeria we owe ourselves and the one we must leave for future generations"

He called on Nigerians across political divides to defend the country's democratic institutions, insisting that the nation's future depends on preserving their independence and credibility.

"I therefore urge all well-meaning Nigerians to rise above partisan interests and defend our democracy. The survival of our institutions is inseparable from the survival of our nation. It's when we work together that a New Nigeria of our dream is made POssible," Obi stated.

BREAKING NEWS: High Court Nulifies Registration Of Nigeria Democratic Congress Party, NDC

By The Republican News

A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, has set aside its earlier judgement that compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, as a political party, ordering the case be heard afresh.

Justice Isah Dashen delivered the ruling on Friday in Suit No FHC/LKJ/CS/49/2025, holding that the earlier judgement delivered on December 10, 2025, was fundamentally flawed because it was reached without hearing all parties whose interests were directly affected by the matter.

The court upheld an application filed by the Peace Movement Party, ruling that the party is a necessary party to the suit and should have been joined before any substantive decision was taken.

Justice Dashen held that counsel for the PMP had successfully established the party legal interests in the case, making its participation indispensable in the proceeedings.

According to the Judge, the failure to hear all interested parties rendered the earlier constitutionally defective and legally unsustainable.

He consequently declared the proceedings nul and void and ordered that the status-quo existing before December 10, 2025 judgement be restored pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The Judge further observed that material facts had been suppressed during the earlier proceedings, a development he said justified the court’s decision to vacate previous judgement.
