Defence Minister Matawalle Cautions FCT Minister, Says He Rushed To Site Despite Service Chiefs Advice To Wait, Asks Officials To Respect Uniformed Officers

By The Republican News

Nigerian Defence Minister, Bello Matawalle, has said the Minister of the Federal Caputal Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, disobeyed the advice of top military chiefs and went ahead to confront a naval officer, Lieutenant Commander Yerima, at a disputed site in Abuja.

The viral video of him engaged in a verbal altercation with the naval officer has caused much uproar and commentaries on the social media, which was reported by The Republican News.

In the video Wike was seen confronting the officer and accused him of obstructing his directive regarding the landed property site in Guduwa District, Gudu, Abuja.

Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa, Matawalle described the incident as unfortunate and said Wike had earlier contacted both the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, who advised him to allow the military to investigate the matter before taking any action.

“What happened between Minister Wike and the officer is unfortunate. When he got there, the officer explained that he was simply obeying orders given to him. Wike should not have exchanged words with the officer, he ought to have addressed his concerns through the officer’s superiors,” the Defence minister said.

Matawalle explained that the naval officer only acted according to instructions and had shown discipline and respect during the exchange.

“He (Wike) is our colleague, and Wike could have reached out to us to resolve whatever issue. The officer’s action was lawful—he was trained to be disciplined, loyal, and obidient to orders. Therefore, the young officer only carried out his duty worthy of commendation,” he said.

According to the Defence Minister, the officer did not violate any military rule and conducted himself properly throughout the encounter.

“He did not commit any offence under military regulations; he merely obeyed a lawful order and followed due process. If you observe carefully, he spoke respectfully and conducted himself properly,” Matawalle added.

He further cautioned that government officials must show respect to members of the Armed Forces, noting that disrespect to a uniformed officer indirectly undermines the authority of the President as Commander-in-Chief.

“There is therefore, no offence under military law for which he should be charged. Wike should not have engaged him in an altercation, especially out of respect for the uniform he was wearing. Anyone who disrespects a soldier indirectly disrespects the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. There is, therefore, no basis for any punishment against the officer,” he said.

Matawalle clarified that his remarks were not meant to justify indiscipline within the military but to emphasis the importance of following command procedures.

“This is not about supporting the military to act disrespectfully towards civilians. The Minister should understand that every officer has superiors. I gathered that he called the Chief of Defence Staff, who advised him to wait for an investigation,” he explained.

The Defence Minister revealed that Wike ignored the advice and instead rushed to the site to personally confront the officers.

“However, he did not wait and instead went straight to the site. As a leader, he ought to have exercised patience and waited for the outcome of the investigation,” Matawalle said.

He added that the Chief of Naval Staff has also assured Wike that an inquiry would be conducted, yet the FCT Minister still proceeded to the location.

“Wike also contacted the Chief of Naval Staff, who assured him that an investigation would be conducted. Yet again, he did not wait. It was supposed to be a one-day inquiry, but he chose to go there and confront them,” the Minister noted.

Matawalle confirmed that the Chief of Naval Staff has since visited the disputed area to begin a formal investigation into the ownership of the land.

“Now that the Chief of Naval Staff has visited the area—since it involves a land dispute—the matter will be investigated to know who owns the lawful documents,” he said.

He added that any revocation of the land should have followed proper administrative and diplomatic procedures rather than confrontation.

“If the land has been revoked, there are established procedures to be followed diplomatically,” Matawalle said.

The Defence Minister disclosed that the Ministry of Defence has not received any formal complaint form Wike over the incident but noted that he personally reached out to the FCT Minister after the video went viral.

“We have not received formal complaint from Wike, but I called him after the video went viral and advised that he should have spoken with me before going there, rather than confronting the officers directly,” Matawalle concluded.

ICYMI: Old Video Reveals 2 Years Ago National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu Begging US Officials To Help End Insecurity In Nigeria

By The Republican News

A video of the National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Nuhu Ribadu passionately appealing to American officials to help Nigeria overcome the devastating scourge of Islamic terrorists namely Boko Haram, Fulani terrorists with their banditry and kidnapping and other vices.

The old footage captured a visibly emotional Ribadu pleading for international support to restore peace and stability to help Nigerians live like others in a peaceful country devoid of the vices of these terrorists.

In his heartfelt words, Ribadu pleaded:

“Let’s stop these terrorists, let’s stop these them. The world can do it. Let’s be given back our freedom; we want to live like the rest of the world. They have robbed us of our freedom to do basic things.”

The emotional appeal has resurfaced because the same folks who appealed for help back then are now defending that there is no need to help because there is religious harmony in Nigeria.

Recently, Donald Trump declared that “Nigerian Christians are facing existential threat” due to the gruesome activities of the Islamic terrorists targeting Christians in Nigeria and the governments have lacked the will to deal with them over the years.

Trump has also ordered the Pentagon, also named as Department of War by him to prepare for military action in Nigeria to eliminate the Islamic groups.

Many Nigerians on social media have raised questions about the contrasting public sentiments towards foreign intervention. Some Nigerians wondered whether, during Ribadu’s emotional plea few years ago, the same accusations of resource exploitation would have been made against the United States.., or whether political affiliations and shifting narratives have changed how such appeals are perceived today.

By The Republican News

The former Mayor of Blanco, Mike Arnold has taken to his X handle to speak up about the stupidity of President Bola Tinubu defending a well documented and fact-filled information supporting clear Christian Genocide in Nigeria.

In his post he had this to say

“His response to Trump is not just tone deaf. It is deaf, dumb, and blind. Maybe even suicidal. He just doesn’t get it, does he?

I warned them.

International scrutiny is coming to Nigeria like nothing they’ve ever comprehended. It’s about time!

Through their corruption and brutality, they’ve become very sloppy they were untouchable. Well, he’s about to be touched in a way that he will never forget.

Trump doesn’t give too many second chances to get it right. Anymore BS administration, one more massacre, and you will see drones wiping out militant Fulani militia camps sooner than you can blink.

And to the civilised world, that is not soon enough.”

President Donald Trump Orders For Department of War To Prepare For Military Invasion Of Nigeria To Deal With Islamic Terrorists

By The Republican News

The President of the United States Donald Trump has ordered the Department of War to prepare for possible military action on Nigeria targeting the Islamic terrorists who carry out mass murder of Christians in Nigeria.

The President blames the Nigerian Government that continues to allow the mass killing of Christians and orders all aid and assistance to Nigeria to immediately stop.

Trump warns that if the United States military attacks that it would be fast, vicious and sweet, just like the Islamic terrorist thugs attacks on our cherished Christians.

There is still hope of this not happening as Trump warns Nigerian government to move fast to deal with these Islamic terrorists or the United States military would invade to deal with them.
