FCT Minister Wike Accuses IGP Monitoring Team Head Akin Fakorede “Of Being A Killer” Says INEC Petitioned Police About His Atrocities
By The Republican News
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has publicly challenged the appointment of CP Akin Fakorede as the head of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, monitoring team, citing several severe accusations against him.
Speaking on Channels Television’s program on Friday, Wike described Fakorede as the officer who formerly led the Federal SARS unit in Rivers State and repeatedly denounced Fakorede for alleged brutality during the posting.
Wike noted that Fakorede was previously accused of serious misconduct and that the Independent National Electoral Commisson, INEC, had written to the police to bar him from participating in elections.
The minister said he had raised his concerns directly with IGP Kayode Egbetokun telling the police chief that Fakorede’s appointment to the monitoring team was a cause for alarm.
Wike said when he heard that Fakorede was the manager of the monitoring team, he added that “they (Nigerians) are in trouble.”
The former Governor also said he had seen an INEC report and promised to obtain it for public scrutiny.
He noted that INEC set up committee and indicted Akin Fakorede.
Speaking on the Channels TV program, Wike said, “Then the only policeman the one they called Akin Fakorede, I hear now, is the one in charge of IG monitoring team. He was in charge of SARS. That was a killer.
“He was in charge of SARS in Rivers State. I say a killer, A killer Can I tell you? That’s nothing I cannot say today.”
When the TV host queried Wike for his choice of words, the minister said further, “Nothing. Nothing Can I tell you something? No, no, there’s no integrity there. Look at me. There’s no integrity there. Everybody knows Akin Fakorede.
“Everybody knows. I complained to IG Kayode. I said, I heard that this is the, what do you call it, the manager of the monitoring team. I said, ah, we’re in trouble. Let me tell you, Seun, there’s nothing I have not passed through.
“There’s nothing they have not done to me. Yes, it’s correct. What have they not done to me? Let me tell you.
“INEC set up committee and indicted Akin Fakorede. Senu, the report is there. I will get it.”
Wike added “INEC wrote to police that this man should not be involved in the election again. I’m telling you what happened. So, as I sit here today, with all amount of authority, Senu, nobody…. Nobody can intimidate me, blackmail me, say this.
“Let me tell you what’s going in. I’m sorry, I will…. You will start to understand what I’m saying, and that’s what is going on here in FCT. Nobody wants you to take the correct position, take the correct position, take decision. Nobody, Blackmail, this, this.
“Take for example, see what’s happening in River Park.”
SaharaReporters had reported recently how the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, set up a probe into the controversial land dispute at the prestigious River Park Estate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
