Adewole Adebayo Slams Tinubu Over New 15% Fuel Import Duty |

Lagos, Nigeria — The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has fiercely condemned the federal government’s decision to introduce a 15% import duty on refined petroleum products.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Adebayo described the move as “an anti-people decision,” accusing President Bola Tinubu of prioritizing taxation over citizens’ welfare.

“President Tinubu is a clever tax collector. He wants to collect taxes from you for everything, including the oxygen tax, very soon. If you’re not careful, yes, the air we breathe. Just give him time; he’s going to get there,” Adebayo said.

He argued that Tinubu’s recent policies contradict the values he once upheld during his SDP days under the late MKO Abiola’s Hope 93 movement. “Tinubu has practically changed to the side of the money people. They see citizens as customers. If you have twins or triplets, Tinubu might soon introduce a ‘multiple childbirth tax,’” Adebayo quipped.

According to Adebayo, the new tariff will worsen the cost of living as it will eventually be paid by ordinary Nigerians at filling stations. “If you put 15 per cent tariffs on imported petrol, who is going to pay for it? The citizens,” he warned.

He urged the government to reconsider the policy, stressing that it would only deepen the suffering of Nigerians already battling inflation and high fuel prices.

Tinubu Warns New Service Chiefs, Nigerians Expect Results, Not Excuses |

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a powerful charge to Nigeria’s newly appointed service chiefs, directing them to show immediate results in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and organized crime.
Speaking during their decoration ceremony at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, the President made it clear that the days of excuses are over and that the nation demands visible progress in restoring peace.

In his address, President Tinubu declared, “We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer. Nigerians expect results, not excuses.” He urged the military to be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous, emphasizing the use of modern technology to outsmart those threatening national stability.

The event, held at the Council Chambers, was attended by top government officials including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and several state governors. Tinubu also commended the military for their sacrifices and courage, assuring them of the Federal Government’s full support.

He specifically warned the armed forces to dismantle new armed groups emerging across the North-Central, North-West, and South, saying: “We must not allow these new threats to fester. Smash the new snakes right at the head.”

Responding on behalf of the service chiefs, General Olufemi Oluyede, the new Chief of Defence Staff, thanked the President for the trust placed in them. He urged Nigerians to unite in supporting the armed forces, stressing that security cannot be achieved without citizen cooperation.
“We promise to make Nigeria a safer place, but we need every Nigerian to support us,” he assured.

The decorated officers include General Olufemi Oluyede (CDS), Lieutenant General Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye (Defence Intelligence), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (Army), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Navy), and Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke (Air Force).

💬 This is the energy we need from our President — strong words and strong leadership.
💬 Enough of excuses indeed. Let’s see action on insecurity once and for all.
💬 If the service chiefs take this seriously, maybe Nigerians can finally sleep in peace.
💬 I love that Tinubu mentioned technology — the war must go digital now.
💬 Saluting their wives after Tinubu was a classy and emotional moment. True gentlemen.

Igbo Lawyers Move To Join Northern Elders’ Court Case Seeking South-East Exit From Nigeria |

Tension is rising again as the Association of Igbo Lawyers has filed an application before the Federal High Court in Abuja to be joined as a party in a controversial case filed by Northern elders, demanding the exit of the South-East region from Nigeria.
This unexpected legal twist has stirred strong debates across the country, as many Nigerians see it as a turning point in the long-running issue of self-determination.

According to court documents, the suit — FHC/ABJ/CS/538/2021 — was filed by Nastura Ashir Shariff, Balarabe Rufa’i, Abdul-Aziz Sulaiman, and Aminu Adam, who argued that the National Assembly has the constitutional power to initiate a referendum that would allow the South-East to decide whether to remain in Nigeria or form its own independent nation.

Those listed as defendants in the suit include the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the National Assembly itself.
The plaintiffs are asking the court to declare that, under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the legislature can legally begin the process of self-determination for the South-East.

In their prayer, the Northern elders also want an order compelling the National Assembly to create a legal framework for the peaceful exit of the South-East region before any further constitutional amendments are made. They argued that such a move would end the long years of violence and unrest linked to the Nnamdi Kanu-led IPOB movement.

The Association of Igbo Lawyers, however, said it must be joined in the suit to ensure that the voice of the South-East is represented and not spoken for by outsiders. Their intervention, they noted, is to defend the constitutional rights and political interests of Ndigbo in any process that affects their destiny as a people.

Peace Returns To Abandoned Igbo Communities After Years Of Terror |

For the first time in years, calm is slowly returning to many deserted Igbo communities once controlled by unknown gunmen.

For almost five years, the South-East region faced waves of violence killings, kidnappings, and destruction that left entire towns in ruins and families displaced.

According to local sources, residents who fled during the height of insecurity are now returning home to rebuild their lives. Farmers have started clearing their lands again, markets are reopening, and schools are cautiously welcoming students back. In some areas, community vigilantes and local security outfits are working hand in hand with the police to maintain peace.

Many villagers described the years of fear as hell on earth. They recounted how nights were filled with gunshots and how people disappeared without a trace. But today, joy and relief fill the air as the cries of children and the sounds of trade replace the echoes of gunfire.

Community leaders have praised ongoing efforts by both the state governments and local vigilante groups in restoring normalcy. However, they warned that the return of peace must be protected through justice, dialogue, and opportunities for the youth to prevent a repeat of the past.

Online Reactions
💬 Finally, we can breathe again. Our people deserve this peace after so many years of pain.
💬 The government should never allow this kind of insecurity to return. Too many lives were lost.
💬 This is good news for every Igbo person. Let’s rebuild our land with love.
💬 We pray it lasts. The fear of unknown gunmen really damaged our villages.
💬 If only this peace continues, the East will rise again stronger than before.

Wole Soyinka Blasts Trump - Calls Him The White Version Of Idi Amin |

Nigerian Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has once again stirred global attention after his shocking statement about former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Reports say the literary icon made the bold remark shortly after he was reportedly banned from visiting the United States.
Social media is buzzing as many try to digest the meaning behind Soyinka’s controversial words.

According to reports, Soyinka compared Donald Trump to Uganda’s former dictator, Idi Amin, describing him as a “white version of Idi Amin with democratic disguise.” The statement came after U.S. authorities allegedly placed travel restrictions on him over his previous criticisms of Trump’s leadership style.

Soyinka, known for his fearless opinions, said Trump’s leadership was marked by arrogance, intolerance, and a hunger for power — traits, he claimed, were common with Idi Amin. He added that democracy in America was at risk if people like Trump kept finding their way back to power.

Meanwhile, Trump’s supporters in the U.S. dismissed Soyinka’s comments as “baseless,” insisting the Nobel Laureate was just being dramatic. But the controversy continues to trend online, especially among young Nigerians who see Soyinka’s statement as a bold truth.

💬 Wole Soyinka has never been afraid to speak the truth. Trump really acts like a white dictator.
💬 Comparing Trump to Idi Amin is too harsh. Trump may be loud, but not that cruel.
💬 They banned him just for speaking his mind? So much for America’s freedom of speech.
💬 Soyinka always finds a way to drop powerful quotes that shake the world.
💬 Let’s be honest — Trump’s behavior sometimes reminds us of the same traits we criticize in African rulers.

Tinubu Didn’t Win, He Stole It - Dele Farotimi |

Outspoken activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has once again sparked nationwide reactions with his bold statement on Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.
He insists that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not win the election he only stole it.
His words have set social media on fire, as many Nigerians debate whether the truth will ever be buried.

Farotimi declared that Tinubu knows, INEC knows, the Judiciary knows, and so do a lot of Nigerians that Tinubu didn’t win the presidency.
He said this truth cannot die, emphasizing that history will continue to echo what happened during the controversial 2023 elections.
According to him, silence won’t erase the truth, and Nigerians must continue to tell the story from generation to generation.

He further described the entire election process as a grand deception, alleging that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Judiciary played key roles in what he termed a democratic robbery.
Farotimi urged Nigerians never to stop speaking out, saying, A nation built on lies cannot stand.

💬 Dele Farotimi is only saying what everyone already knows but is too scared to say out loud.
💬 Let him rest. The election is over. Nigerians have moved on.
💬 No lie lasts forever. The truth will always come out, even if it takes years.
💬 It’s brave of him to speak, but will anything change? That’s the big question.
💬 This country is tired of recycled truth with no justice. When will something actually happen?

Emir Sanusi Open Confession, Why Jonathan Backed Down on Fuel Subsidy Removal |

The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has opened up on a major secret behind former President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision not to remove fuel subsidy in 2011.
According to him, Jonathan was fully prepared to remove the subsidy but backed down due to the deadly Boko Haram crisis and political pressure from the opposition.
Sanusi said the former president’s decision was driven by fear of mass casualties, not weakness.

Speaking at a public event, the Emir explained that Jonathan wanted to save Nigerian lives as the country faced nationwide protests and terrorist threats.
He revealed that at the height of the Occupy Nigeria demonstrations, Boko Haram su***de bombers were already active in parts of the country.
Thousands were protesting in Lagos, Kano, and Kaduna, and there was real fear that a su***de bomber could attack the protest venues, Sanusi said.
If that happened, it would no longer be about subsidy but about hundreds of corpses on the streets.

Sanusi also blamed political hypocrisy for the crisis.
He said, If Nigerians had allowed Jonathan to remove subsidy in 2011, there would have been pain, but it’d have been a tiny fraction of what we’re facing today.
The Emir further revealed that some of his close friends, including Kayode Fayemi and other APC figures, opposed the move for political reasons.
“I even called one of my friends then and told him, ‘You know we’re doing the right thing,’ and he replied, ‘Yes, but I’m in opposition; my job is to make the government look bad, Sanusi said.

💬 Wow! So Jonathan actually meant well, but politics killed his plan.
💬 This is deep. Sometimes leaders do the right thing but are stopped by selfish interests.
💬 Sanusi is right. We’re paying the price now for rejecting subsidy removal in 2011.
💬 Jonathan deserves credit. He chose peace over political victory.
💬 Nigeria’s biggest problem has always been politics over national interest.
