Matthew 8
THE GIFT GIVEN TO JESUS
Matthew 8:10
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Faith is a gift we give to God.
God gives us faith through His Word, and we return that gift of faith as a special gift back to Him.
Why did I call faith a gift we give to God? Because God’s greatest desire is to be believed! It is our faith or believe in God that makes us serve Him. That is what makes us follow Him and walk with Him to the very end.
In our text, a Gentile man gives Jesus the gift of faith in a measure that not even the Jews, God’s chosen people, could give to Him. They could not believe Him to the extent that this man believed in Him.
Adam Clark described this verse in the following terms, “That is, I have not found so great an instance of confidence and faith in my power, even among the Jews, as this Roman, a Gentile, has shown himself to possess.”
Many times, it is those that you don’t even expect to have faith and believe that are the ones that exercise the greatest faith. Then there are those that you expect to have faith that don’t have any faith at all. For some they have quit believing. For others, they are tired of believing. Yet for some, they are too used to all these stuff that familiarity is now their problem.
The Jews were God’s covenant people, they have seen too much of God that many took a lot for granted. Yet this Gentile demonstrated great faith in Jesus.
What about you? Faith is a choice; choose today to believe God. Give God the gift of great faith this year! He will surprise you as He surprised the Gentile.
To the very ends of the earth,
God bless you richly with great grace and many blessings.
