The Bamboo Farmer
In a small village, there lived a farmer named Tunde. He bought a special kind of bamboo seed and planted it in a corner of his field.
Every morning he watered the soil. Every evening he checked for signs of growth.
A week passed. Nothing.
A month passed. Nothing.
A year passed. Still nothing.
His neighbors laughed.
“Why waste your time?” they asked. “Plant something else.”
But Tunde continued watering the spot every day.
In the second year, nothing appeared.
In the third year, nothing appeared.
In the fourth year, the ground still looked empty.
Many people would have given up, but Tunde believed that growth was happening where he could not see it.
Then, during the fifth year, a tiny green shoot broke through the soil.
Within weeks, it grew taller than a man.
Within months, it towered over nearby trees.
The villagers were amazed.
“How did it grow so fast?” they asked.
Tunde smiled.
“It didn’t grow fast,” he replied. “For five years it was growing roots. If it had tried to grow tall before its roots were strong, it would have fallen in the first storm.”
The story spread through the village, reminding everyone that patience is not simply waiting. It is continuing to do the right thing while progress is invisible.
Just as the bamboo spent years building roots before reaching the sky, many worthwhile goals take time before the results can be seen. Patience gives those roots a chance to grow.
