Sometimes love arrives quietly, with a simple DM. Other times, it waits patiently, just like he did for me. Chima and I first connected through a mutual group called Umu Igbo Unite (UIU)—a cultural space for young Igbo professionals like us.

I remember spotting his profile and thinking, “Wow, he’s cute.” When he messaged me, I completely froze. I didn’t know what to say… so I said nothing at all. I left him on read for an entire year.

Fast-forward twelve months, and something tugged at me. Maybe it was curiosity, or maybe it was fate reminding me not to miss what could be. I finally replied to his message, nervous that he wouldn’t even remember me. But Chima, in true Chima fashion, responded with the same warmth and patience that would come to define the kind of man he is.

From Facebook to forever. We didn’t talk every day at first, but whenever we did, our conversations were effortless and endless - hours would pass, and it always felt like we were just getting started.

There was something about the way we vibed that made it feel like we had known each other for years, even though we were still getting to know each other from behind screens.

Eventually, he asked me out. At first, I hesitated - not because I didn’t like him, but because I’ve always believed in meeting someone in person before diving into a relationship. Surprisingly, he felt the same way. Yet, despite that shared belief, I found myself falling for him… and falling hard. It was unexpected, intense, and beautiful. Somehow, without even meeting in person, my heart had already chosen him.

Then came the big step - we decided to meet in real life. I remember feeling all the nerves leading up to that moment: What if it’s awkward? What if it doesn’t feel the same? But the second I saw him, all that anxiety melted away. Instantly. Just like that, I knew. I had heard people say, “When you meet your person, you’ll just know,” and standing in front of him, I finally understood what they meant.

This man was mine - my person. Now, here we are, writing our forever story — hand in hand, heart to heart, and soul to soul. And every day, I thank God for the grace to feel a love so pure, so true, and so meant to be.
