CANADA INCREASES SETTLEMENT FUND REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPRESS ENTRY APPLICANTS

Effective July 7, 2025, the Canadian government has raised the minimum settlement fund requirement for prospective immigrants applying under the Express Entry system.

The new guidelines stipulate that a single applicant must now demonstrate access to at least CAD $15,263 (approximately N17 million), up from the previous requirement of CAD $14,690. For a family of two, the minimum required funds have increased to CAD $19,001 (N21.2 million).

This adjustment is part of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) annual review of settlement fund requirements, based on 50% of the low-income cut-off totals determined by Statistics Canada. The funds are intended to ensure applicants can support themselves and their families after arrival in Canada.

Key Requirements:

- Applicants must provide official letters from financial institutions, printed on the bank's letterhead.

- Joint accounts can be combined if applying with a spouse.

- Candidates in the Express Entry pool must update their proof of funds by July 28, 2025, to remain eligible.

Important Exceptions:

- Proof of funds is not required for applicants under the Canadian Experience Class.

- Applicants with a valid job offer and authorized to work in Canada are also exempt.
