Imo State is named after a woman. She lives in the river, and Otamiri and Oramiriukwa both run into her.

I went looking for her priest. I could not find one.

Awka was under attack, so the elders sent for a medicine man. He made ọgwụ to fortify the fighters, and told them one thing. It will only work if the whole community honours it.

They are still honouring it today.

Awka had a god who taught them to make the spear that kills elephants. His sacred symbol was okike, the elephant's tusk, and every family kept one in the shrine with the hunting medicine inside it.

The last elephant in Awka was killed in 1910.

Go and look for his shrine today. There is one spear standing in the ground.

A god set conditions no town could meet. Only Egbu passed, so the river was born there. To this day, the towns around it fetch their water from Egbu, and even Owerri was built on Egbu's water.
