Popular Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkBlackMan (VDM), has been officially arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
🔴 According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, VDM was taken in after multiple petitions were filed against him.
🔒 He’s currently in custody and will be released once he meets bail conditions.
💥 The arrest has triggered massive reactions online, especially after reports claimed he was picked up inside a GTBank branch. GTBank is yet to release any statement.
📹 A video shows some of his supporters trying to deliver food to him at the EFCC office. They were reportedly told that no one is allowed to see or feed him directly, and that the officers will handle it themselves.
🗣️ Peter Obi, Davido, and Sowore have all spoken up.
Davido is calling for his release
Obi criticized the manner of arrest, comparing it to a kidnap
Sowore believes the arrest is an attempt to silence him
⚖️ VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, said he was arrested without being told the exact offense. The EFCC later presented an arrest warrant signed over an allegation of cyberstalking.
🧠 VDM is known for challenging corruption and injustice across Nigeria. This is not his first time clashing with authorities. His past issues include:
• An accusation of criminal defamation involving Mercy Chinwo
• Detention for wearing a police uniform in a video
• A viral video where he was seen spraying money publicly
🔥 Nigerians across social media are now calling for transparency and demanding his immediate release.
✊🏽 Do you think this is a crackdown on free speech or a legitimate arrest?
