Breaking the Silence, Ending Period Poverty!

To commemorate World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, On 29 May 2029, Harsco Media and Communications, in partnership with the Councillor representing Obibiezena Ward, Hon. Ngozi Ohaka Funmilayo, reached over 500 girls across Fountain Hills High School, John F. Kennedy Secondary School Obibiezena, and St. Theresa's Comprehensive School with sanitary hygiene products and menstrual health education.

The outreach went beyond the distribution of sanitary pads. Medical professionals engaged students on menstrual hygiene, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), and personal wellbeing, empowering them with knowledge to make informed decisions about their health. Additional hygiene materials, including disinfectants and deodorants, were also donated to the schools.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Ngozi Ohaka Funmilayo emphasized the need to end period poverty and ensure that no girl misses school or opportunities because of menstruation.

Director of Harsco Media and Communications, Harriet Ijeomah, noted that the initiative reflects the organization's commitment to promoting girls' health, education, and gender equality, adding that she has championed menstrual hygiene support for rural girls for over seven years.

Together, we can create a world where menstruation is never a barrier to education, dignity, or opportunity.

🌍 World No To***co Day 2026

Every year on May 31, the world observes World No To***co Day to raise awareness about the dangers of to***co use and to encourage stronger policies that reduce its consumption. Despite decades of progress, to***co remains one of the most serious public health threats globally.

Today, over 1.2 billion people worldwide still use to***co, with the majority living in low- and middle income countries where access to healthcare is limited and the burden of disease is higher. Although global to***co use has declined in recent years from about 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024 progress is still uneven across regions .

To***co use is responsible for more than 8 million deaths every year, including over 7 million from direct use and about 1.2 million from second hand smoke exposure. This makes it one of the leading causes of preventable death worldwide.

Recent WHO reports also warn that while cigarette smoking is declining, new ni****ne products such as e-cigarettes are rising rapidly, with over 100 million people globally now using vapes, including a growing number of young people.

Beyond health, to***co also deepens poverty by increasing household spending on addiction while reducing productivity and increasing medical costs. Governments and health organizations continue to push for stronger to***co control laws, public awareness campaigns, and support systems for quitting.

On this day, the message is clear: to***co is not just a personal habit it is a global health crisis. Every quit attempt, every awareness campaign, and every policy matters in saving lives.

Say no to to***co. Choose health. Choose life.

Menstruation is natural, not a taboo. Yet, many girls and women still grow up hearing harmful myths, misconceptions, and negative beliefs about their menstrual health.

These false perceptions often create shame, fear, discrimination, and silence around a normal biological process. It is time to change the narrative through awareness, education, and open conversations.

We believe every girl deserves dignity, accurate information, and support without stigma. Together, we can break harmful stereotypes and build a society where menstruation is discussed with understanding and respect.
