“I should be buried while standing and not laid down, A new car should be bought for me,” Late Tamale Mirundi demands

This Sunday August 18, 2024, former Senior Presidential Press Secretary, Joseph Tamale Mirundi shall be sent off to rest, according to a programme released by the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Hajji Kirunda Faruk on the behalf of government. But the latest information we have landed on is that the man from Matale village said his body should never be laid down but buried standing.

Mirundi, who passed Tuesday August 13, 2024 night at Kisubi Hospital made the directives to his family members led by his mother Molly. He also went on radio and made the same directives live on air during a talk show hosted by Adam Kungu on Radio 4.

Mirundi said he wanted to be buried differently and to remain standing even in death.

The controversial analyst said he had already prepared his special grave besides their ancestral graveyard in Matale village to make sure his wish is fulfilled.

“I dug my own grave and left the ancestral graveyard, and they will bury me while standing,” he stated with conviction.

This directive, according to Tamale Mirundi, is rooted in his desire to be remembered uniquely, not as someone who was laid down, but as someone who stood tall even in death.

He emphasized that this was a long-held wish, one he had communicated to his mother, Molly, many years ago.

Despite initially despising the idea, Molly eventually accepted and approved her son’s unconventional wish.

In keeping with another family tradition, Mirundi also expressed that after his death, his family should buy the latest model car for him, just as they did for his late father. This, he believed, was an important part of honoring his legacy.

Jets Seizure: FG Accuses Chinese Firm Of ‘Fraudulent’ Attempt To Strip Nigeria’s Assets.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has accused a Chinese company, Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited, of subterfuge after a French court ruled in favour of the firm and granted the seizure of presidential jets belonging to the Nigerian government.

In a statement on Thursday, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga alleged that the Chinese firm is trying “to take over offshore assets of the Federal Government of Nigeria through subterfuge”.

In the dispute involving an arbitration award, the court in Paris ruled in favour of the Chinese firm, allowing it to seize three presidential jets on routine maintenance in France as “security” for claims in a decades-long judicial matter between the foreign company and the Ogun State government.

Free-Trade Zone Row
Back in 2007, the foreign firm signed a contract with the Ogun State government to manage a free-trade zone but the contract was revoked by the state government in 2015.

Displeased, Zhongshan initiated an investment treaty arbitration against Nigeria under the bilateral investment treaty between the People’s Republic of China and Nigeria (the China-Nigeria BIT).

The arbitrators ruled that Nigeria was in breach of its obligations under the China-Nigeria BIT and awarded Zhongshan compensation amounting to millions of dollars.

The Nigerian government and the subnational appealed the matter in “eight” jurisdictions including the United Kingdom and the United States.

The latest jurisdiction is in France, where three Nigerian presidential jets are on routine maintenance.

According to reports, the court in Paris held that the seizure of the jets was to “preserve the claim arising from the arbitration award dated 26 March 2021, made by an ad hoc arbitral tribunal”.

But the Nigerian government said it is “not under any contractual obligation with the company”...............

I met my partner when he was 28 and I was 40 — we’re still together three decades later

While pop culture has arguably put age gap relationships on the map (think The Graduate, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, and, more recently, The Idea of You), there’s still a lot of stigma surrounding them – especially when the older person in the couple is a woman.

At the age of 41, Lis met Conrad McDermott (who was 28 at the time) at a soul club in Cheltenham. She was out with a girlfriend who was also 10 years younger when she noticed him from across the dancefloor.

Having recently gotten divorced, Lis wasn’t necessarily looking for anything serious – and little did she know then that the handsome stranger would become her life partner of over 30 years.

‘I said to my friend, “Oh, he’s cute”. Then I went to the toilet and came back. I wasn’t aware, but she knew the guy he was with and she’d gone over and told him,’ she tells Metro.

‘It was like we were all teenagers. It was ridiculous, really, but Conrad came over and said, “your girlfriend said you fancied me”.’

The pair shared a dance and then he disappeared. ‘I thought, “okay, he thinks I’m too old”,’ Lis adds.

At the end of the night, she came across him again at the bar. She took a chance and asked him for his name (a detail they hadn’t covered in their previous exchange), before he asked for her number in return.

Conrad, now 60, rang her the next day and, after a year of dating, he moved from Birmingham to Cheltenham to live with Lis.

For the next nine years, Lis worked as a school music advisor and Conrad worked renting cars, until one day they decided to take the next step.

‘He kept joking saying “I’ll marry you on your birthday”, and I brushed it off because he never wanted to get married,’ Lis says.

‘He said “you organise it and I’ll be there”. We got married on my 50th birthday… He’s not a romantic soul really.’

Their happy story hasn’t come without its fair share of judgement from others though,...........

The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters in the office of the Vice President, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has commended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede on his steady reform in the Commission in spite of attendant challenges.

He gave this commendation on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the EFCC Management Retreat while making a presentation themed “Making a Success of the Anti -Corruption War in the Face of Daunting Challenges”.

The Presidential aide admitted that the weak and disjointed value system in the country has made it easy for corruption to strive but commended Olukoyede for making impact in spite of all the handicaps.

He called on anti-corruption agencies to collaborate more and build stronger energy and synergy against corrupt practices, stressing that enhanced public awareness would do more in tackling the menace of economic and financial crimes. “We must widely intensify public awareness on the damage of corruption because we cannot defeat poverty and insecurity unless we defeat corruption”, he said.

He also stressed the need for public ownership of the fight against corruption, maintaining that Olukoyede’s leadership of the EFCC would do the nation greater good. “I equally believe that there is a need to have a strong public presence where the Commission can garnish support from honest and patriotic Nigerians, I strongly believe that the leadership of your Chairman will succeed”, he said.

He specifically called for the establishment of special courts to deal with corruption cases to enhance accelerated resolution of cases and help the Commission achieve its mandate.

In his response, Olukoyede appreciated Baba-Ahmed for the advice and encouragement, he further stated that with the support of everyone, EFCC will succeed. “The challenge may be daunting and I believe if we are resolute, more people will support us.

GOV OTTI, STATE ASSEMBLY EX-SPEAKERS TOUR ROAD CONSTRUCTION SITES IN ABA, EXPRESS SATISFACTION

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has charged contractors handling various road projects in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state, to increase their pace in order to complete their work before the rains set in fully.

Governor Otti gave the directive on Friday while inspecting several roads being reconstructed by the State Government in Aba and its environs.

The Governor was accompanied on the tour of the project sites by former Speakers of the Abia State House of Assembly, who visited him under the auspices of the Conference of Former Speakers of Abia State.

Addressing crowds of excited residents, who beseiged him at the various stops he made, Governor Otti described the roads as strategic and of economic importance and implored the contractors to move faster and complete them for use before the rains fully kick in.

He expressed confidence in the ability of the contractors to deliver the roads according to specifications and applauded them for the good job they have done so far. He also thanked the residents and shop owners, who live and do business in the areas for their support and cooperation with the contractors.

"The contractors are trying but I want them to do more because I don't want the rains to meet them here. They have the capacity and I know they can achieve that.

"I want to thank you for supporting the contractors, giving them all the maximum cooperation. I also want to thank you for going through all the inconveniences to ensure this road is done to the highest standard," the Governor said, adding that the essence of the inspection was to ensure that the contractors comply with specifications and to see the level of works done so far.

Speaking on behalf of the former Speakers, Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka, who was Abia State Assembly Speaker during former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu's administration (1999-2007), said though the former Speak
