How Chief Uwazuruike Gave Biafra Struggle International Legal Standing - Ex-Minister
By Jude Chijioke
LAGOS - Members of the Biafra Independence Movement and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (BIM-MASSOB), Western Zone A, gathered in Lagos yesterday and celebrated the 26th anniversary of the new Biafra re-declaration.
The two organizations, widely recognized for their peaceful agitation for Biafra sovereignty, drew members from across the Western region to reflect on the historical landmark that has brought the Biafra nation into the global limelight.
Speaking at the event, former Sports Minister and human rights activist, Hon. Chukwuemeka Kenneth, urged Biafrans to remain grateful to Chief Dr. Ralph Uwazuruike. According to Kenneth, Uwazuruike successfully reignited the spirit of ingenuity within the subconsciousness of the Biafran people through the course of their struggle.
"Chief Ralph Uwazuruike knew and understood what he was doing by implementing the Montevideo Convention of 1933, as stipulated by the United Nations," Hon. Kenneth stated.
He maintained that this strategic foundation provides BIM-MASSOB with a unique legal standing before the international community, granting the movement a "legitimate appendage to thrive amidst turmoil and chaos."
In an appraisal of the movement's journey, Hon. Kenneth noted the unique nature of the Lagos gathering, stating it would be highly challenging to assemble a similar collective of like-minded men and women within the Eastern region to attain such a milestone.
Taking a trip down memory lane, the former minister honored the sacrifices of fallen comrades over the past two decades. He commended the current members of BIM-MASSOB for remaining calm, focused, and dedicated to seeing the struggle through to its logical end.
Closing the anniversary event, Hon. Kenneth extended his gratitude to all attendees who created time to mark the milestone, reiterating the core tenet of the organization's philosophy: nothing compares to non-violence in the actualization of Biafra.
