BE GENEROUS WITH GOD'S GIFTS - REV. OSUKA
Whatever opportunity given to you, use it judiciously for your benefits and that of others.
The Vicar-in-charge of Holy Trinity Anglican Church Oru Ahiara East in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Rev. Canon Vinson Osuka gave the injunction in his sermon marking Thanksgiving Service in the parish.
Preaching on the theme: "Occupy till I come," drawn from Luke 19:13-27, the cleric harped on the importance for one to utilize God's given talent to impact positively on others.
Rev. Osuka called on children of God not to be stingy with talents/wealth God has given them but to use them to serve God and humanity, diligently.
He narrated the story of how a man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return, saying, "So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’ “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’ “He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it. “The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’ “ ‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’ “The second came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned five more.’ “His master answered, ‘You take charge of five cities.’ “Then another servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’ “His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?’ “Then he said to those standing by, ‘Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’ “ ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’ “He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’ ”
Continuing, he said, "Eschew hatred and bear no malice. Imbibe spirit of forgiveness. Repent. Malice is not good. The good shall always prevail. God will bless those who lives according to his will. He who loves good will always receive goodness. It shall be well with those who give. Those who are merciful will receive mercy."
Unveiling the theme of 2025 Harvest, tagged, "Harvest of Divine Possibilities," which he restated would hold on Sunday 28th December with Ezinwa Nelson Ezeji as Harvest Committee Chairman and Mrs. Mercel Madu as Secretary, Rev. Osuka said the concept was drawn from 1 Kings 17:7-24 "Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath," where Elijah asked the widow for water and then for a piece of bread she believed would be her and her son's final meal and thereafter, their death.
The clergyman said she had only a small amount of flour and oil but gave all as Elijah requested and God intervened by causing her jar of flour and jug of oil not to run out but instead provided for them throughout the famine.
He reiterated that
the more one gives, the more he/she receives and urged the faithful not to tighten their hands but give cheerfully for bountiful blessings and well-being.
The First Lesson was taken from Luke 19:11-27 "Put the Gift to work," and Second Lesson, 2 Corinthians 5:6 "We must give account before the judgement seat of Christ."
