A 47-year-old secondary school teacher, Mr Ojo Ezekiel, has been given a life sentence for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. Justice Abiodun Akinyemi of the Ogun State High Court issued the verdict nearly two years after Ezekiel was initially charged on July 1, 2022.

During the trial, the prosecution, represented by Mr Olusegun Olaitan, informed the court that the victim's mother noticed abnormalities in her daughter's ge****ls while bathing her, prompting a thorough questioning. Eventually, the minor disclosed to her mother that Mr Ezekiel, a teacher at a secondary school close to the victim's primary school, had sexually abused her. Medical evidence presented during the trial confirmed the assault and indicated that the abuse occurred on four separate occasions in Ezekiel's car after school hours. Additionally, it was revealed that Ezekiel had threatened the victim with violence if she revealed the abuse to anyone.
