Beacon of Peace, Voice of the Youth: NYCN Honors Shina Peller on 4th Anniversary as Ayedero of Yorubaland
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has hailed Hon. Shina Peller, former member of the House of Representatives, as a rare partner in the youth struggle, a voice of hope, and a shining light whose leadership continues to inspire Nigerian youths across the nation.
In a goodwill message signed by its President, Comrade Solomon Adodo, and made available to journalists on Friday, the council congratulated Hon. Peller on the fourth anniversary of his conferment as Ayedero of Yorubaland.
Adodo noted that the revered title, bestowed on Hon. Peller in August 2021 by the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, was not just ceremonial but a sacred chargeâan entrustment to preserve peace, promote harmony, and ignite hope in uncertain times.
âFour years on,â the statement read, âHon. Peller has not only borne this weight with uncommon courage, but he has also deepened its meaning, giving young Nigerians a new vision of leadership anchored on service.â
One of the defining symbols of this commitment, Adodo emphasized, is the Ayedero Peace Tourâa bold initiative that took Peller to insecurity-troubled states including Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Niger. There, he engaged grieving communities, traditional rulers, youth leaders, and security agencies, reminding the nation that âsilence in the face of violence is not an option.â
Beyond peace-building, NYCN applauded Pellerâs remarkable investment in youth empowerment through the Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), which has trained thousands of young Nigerians in leadership, governance, active citizenship, and strategic communication.
âThrough LGI, you are not creating mere followers but raising a generation of responsible leaders ready to shape Nigeriaâs destiny. That is not politics; it is nation-building,â Adodo asserted.
The council also recalled that in 2022, Hon. Peller was decorated as NYCNâs Life Patron, and in 2023, several youth groups jointly honored him as Grand Commander of the Nigerian Youth (GCNY)âa testament to his undeniable impact on Nigerian youth.
The statement concluded:
> âFor us in the National Youth Council of Nigeria, you are more than a titleholder. You are a true partner in the youth struggle, a motivator when the road seems unclear, and proof that leadership can still be rooted in selfless service.
As you mark this 4th anniversary of your coronation as Ayedero of Yorubaland, we celebrate not only you but the enduring hope and courage you represent. May the Almighty grant you greater strength for the tasks ahead, and may your steps continue to inspire a generation committed to lifting Nigeria higher.
Congratulations once again, Ayedero of Yorubalandâour Life Patron, our Grand Commander, and our enduring source of pride.â
Signed:
Comrade Solomon Adodo
President, NYCN
