Shina Peller Hosts 2026 Ramadan Public Lecture on Community Development in Islam

Hon. (Dr.) Shina Peller, the Ayedero of Yorubaland, on Friday, 27th February 2026, successfully hosted the 2026 Annual Ramadan Public Lecture at Iseyin District Grammar School (IDGS), Barracks, Iseyin, bringing together religious scholars, community leaders, and members of the public for a thought-provoking engagement on faith and societal progress.
The lecture, themed “The Importance of Community Development in Islam,” focused on the collective responsibility of individuals and institutions in building strong, inclusive, and morally guided communities. Participants were reminded that development is not solely the duty of government but a shared obligation deeply rooted in Islamic teachings and communal values.
Delivering the keynote address, Sheikh Jamiu Ajadi Sanusi (Amin Olohun) stressed that Islam promotes social justice, unity, and the welfare of the wider society. He highlighted principles such as Zakat, charity, accountability, and mutual support as practical tools for tackling poverty, inequality, and social challenges. According to him, true religious devotion must be reflected in positive actions that uplift communities.
The event also emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement, youth empowerment, and moral leadership as key drivers of sustainable development. Many attendees described the lecture as timely and impactful, noting that it provided clear guidance on applying Islamic principles to contemporary realities.
In his remarks, Hon. Shina Peller reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that combine spiritual growth with social advancement. He stated that the annual Ramadan Public Lecture remains a platform for enlightenment, unity, and collective action aimed at strengthening communities across Yorubaland and beyond.
