NNAMDI KANU, THE OVERLOOKED ATROCITIES, AND THE BURDEN IGBO PEOPLE BEAR...
For years, many people—especially outside the South-East—do not fully understand the depth of pain, fear, and suffocation that ordinary Igbo families have endured under the banner of a struggle that was supposed to “liberate” them.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu emerged as a voice promising freedom, dignity, and the long-dreamed Biafra. But along the way, another reality began to unfold—one that many people are too afraid to talk about publicly.
The Monday Sit-at-Home: Liberation or Subtle Enslavement?
No true liberator punishes his own people.
No freedom fighter starves the same community he claims to defend.
Yet, for years, the South-East lived under the Monday Sit-at-Home order, enforced by fear, intimidation, and in some cases, deadly consequences from armed groups claiming loyalty to Nnamdi Kanu.
People who simply wanted to go to work, feed their children, attend school, or live normally were branded “betrayers.”
Many paid with their lives.
How does a man claim to free a people… while locking them inside their homes every Monday?
THE IGBO MEN IN UNIFORM — EXECUTED FOR WEARING A UNIFORM
One of the darkest, rarely discussed realities is the alleged targeting of Igbo security officers—police and soldiers—by armed groups linked to the agitation. Videos circulate where these men, speaking fluent Igbo, begging for mercy from their own brothers, were still brutally executed simply because of the uniforms they wore.
Uniform became a death sentence.
Their Igbo identity meant nothing.
Their pleas meant nothing.
What liberation kills its own sons first?
ESN: FROM “DEFENDERS” TO A FORCE WITHOUT SYMPATHY?
The Eastern Security Network (ESN), formed under Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s leadership, was originally praised as a protective shield against external threats. But many residents have testified that some factions became uncontrollable, ruthless, and unanswerable to anyone.
Ordinary villagers describe encounters where fear replaced trust.
The very group meant to defend the people became another force the people feared.
THE CUBANA CHIEF PRIEST STATEMENT — A VOICE OF WHAT MANY THINK BUT FEAR TO SAY
When Cubana Chief Priest spoke openly about the negative impact the agitation had on Igbo businesses, markets, safety, and progress, he echoed a hidden truth.
Many Igbo people are relieved, but silence remains their shield. They do not want to be branded traitors or enemies of their own heritage.
But a truth must be said:
A leader who truly loves his people does not make them bleed for his dream.
LIBERATION IS NOT SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THIS
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is seen by some as a hero and by others as the architect of needless suffering. But one thing stands clear:
Any freedom movement that destroys its own people before achieving independence has already failed.
Compare this to Nelson Mandela.
THE MANDELA STANDARD: DID HE FORCE HIS PEOPLE TO SUFFER FIRST?
Nelson Mandela fought for South Africa’s freedom with dignity.
He did not impose weekly lockdowns on his people.
He did not declare his own people enemies because they didn’t follow him.
He did not empower groups to terrorize communities in the name of liberation.
He never forced South Africans to abide by a personal rulebook before freedom could come.
Mandela carried his people WITH him—not against them.
This is why South Africa celebrates him today.
His struggle did not enslave the very people he wanted to free.
COULD BIAFRA BECOME ANOTHER NIGERIA—A NEW PROBLEM IN A NEW FLAG?
Many Igbo descendants do not realize this:
Creating a new country does not magically fix the mentality, the power struggles, the internal divisions, or the leadership flaws the region already faces.
If people cannot freely live, work, speak, or move in “Biafra” today (under internal threats), what guarantees that full independence will not become “Nigeria Part 2”?
Freedom is not built on intimidation.
Nationhood cannot rise on the blood of its sons and daughters.
THE TRUTH MANY FEAR TO SAY LOUDLY
You cannot fight for your people while simultaneously frightening them.
You cannot claim to love a tribe when your actions leave widows, orphans, burnt markets, and empty schools.
You cannot demand loyalty through fear and still call yourself a liberator.
Let the truth be known:
A liberator does not enslave his own people.
The Igbo nation deserves peace, safety, unity, and progress—but never at the cost of their own lives or freedom. True liberation uplifts; it does not torment. True leadership heals; it does not wound.
Until this is understood, the South-East will continue to bleed silently under the weight of a struggle that promised freedom… but delivered fear.
