*Date: Tuesday, July 22, 2025*
*Theme: Dominion My Heritage Through Mentality Shift*
*Topic: IDENTITY IN CHRIST: A key to Mentality Shift*
*Key Reference: 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 KJV*
[20] Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. [21] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
*Objectives:* By the end of today's devotional, you should be able to;
1. Understand the concept of our Identity in Christ.
2. Understand the transition from the old life into the new life in Christ.
3. Understand that our identity in Christ is vital for a mental shift.
*Bullet Points:*
1. The word of God sponsors spiritual renewal and installs our identity in Christ.
2. The word of God mirrors the very life of Christ to the believer.
3. When you run out of Faith, you run out of results. And Faith is critical for the believer's identity in Christ.

*Message:*
The journey of the believer begins with a new identity—a spiritual transformation that redefines how we think, live, and respond to life’s challenges. Understanding our identity in Christ is not just theological knowledge; it is the foundation for a renewed mindset and victorious living. Romans 12:2 urges us, _"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..."_ This transformation begins by seeing ourselves through the lens of Christ’s finished work. Until we truly grasp who we are in Him, we will live beneath our calling and potential.
In Christ, we are new creations. 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, _"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."_ This verse speaks of more than moral improvement—it announces a complete identity shift. Our past sins, failures, and inadequacies no longer define us. The old man is crucified (Galatians 2:20), and a new life has begun. Recognizing this truth should reshape our self-image and self-worth. We are no longer sinners trying to be saints; we are saints learning to walk in the righteousness already given to us.
One of the greatest mentality shifts a believer must embrace is understanding that we are sons and daughters of God, not slaves or beggars. John 1:12 affirms, _"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name."_ This identity grants us access, authority, and inheritance. Galatians 4:7 goes further: " _Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ."_ When we shift from a slave mentality to a sonship mentality, fear, insecurity, and shame begin to lose their grip. We start walking in confidence, not arrogance, because we know our place in the Father’s house.
Moreover, in Christ we are righteous, accepted, and chosen. Ephesians 1:4-6 teaches us that God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, adopted us, and made us accepted in the Beloved. This acceptance is not based on performance but on grace. 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us, _"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people..."—_ this is our spiritual DNA. When these truths saturate our minds, the lies of rejection, unworthiness, and comparison are silenced. We begin to live not for identity, but from identity.
Understanding our identity in Christ also empowers us to live victoriously over sin and fear. Romans 6:11 instructs, _"Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord."_ We are no longer slaves to sin but alive to righteousness. This is not just a moral command but a mindset. When we identify as free, we begin to live as free. Similarly, 2 Timothy 1:7 declares, _"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."_ Knowing our identity dismantles fear-based thinking and replaces it with confidence grounded in truth.
Finally, our identity in Christ realigns our purpose and mission. We are ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20), light in the world (Matthew 5:14), and carriers of divine purpose. When our minds shift from survival to assignment, from insignificance to divine calling, we begin to live intentionally. We stop asking, “What am I doing with my life?” and start declaring, “I am who God says I am, and I am sent for His glory.”
Understanding our identity in Christ is the foundation of a true mentality shift. It rewires our thinking, reshapes our self-image, and repositions us for victorious and purposeful living. The enemy thrives on ignorance, but when we embrace our identity as new creations, beloved children, and empowered ambassadors, we begin to live from a place of truth and grace. Let us continually renew our minds with the Word, declaring who we are in Christ until it becomes the default lens through which we see everything.
*Application:*
To apply this truth, we must consistently meditate on God’s Word concerning our identity. This means intentionally replacing worldly labels and past experiences with what God says about us. Start by making daily confessions of scriptures like 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 1:4-6, and 1 Peter 2:9. When negative thoughts or old patterns try to resurface, confront them with the truth of your identity in Christ. Surround yourself with teachings, music, and community that reinforce your spiritual identity. As you grow in this understanding, your mindset will shift from defeat to dominion, from fear to faith, and from confusion to clarity about your purpose.
*Memory Verse:*
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
[17] Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
*Prayer Guide:*
