NNPC BEGINS INSPECTION OF OIL FACILITIES IN OGONILAND AHEAD OF EXPLORATION RESUMPTION
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, has commenced inspection of oil facilities in Ogoniland ahead of the planned resumption of oil exploration in the area.
The inspection team carried out integrity tests on the Nyobe Bangha and Nyokuru East oil fields to determine the current condition of assets previously operated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company. The exercise forms part of ongoing technical assessments aimed at evaluating the readiness of the facilities for potential operations.
Speaking during the inspection, the NEPL Community Liaison Officer for the Ogoni Field, Prince Olaka Emmanuel, explained that the exercise was part of efforts to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the oil facilities in the area.
Reacting to the development, the Paramount Ruler of Nyokuru Community, Sir Jackson Abiikor, urged relevant authorities to ensure transparency and strict adherence to due process throughout the process.
Also speaking, the President-General of the Ogoni Youth Federation, Legborsi Yaamabana, stated that host communities are supporting the proposed resumption of oil exploration in good faith while hoping that their concerns will be properly addressed.
