Young Woman Murdered in Emohua, Rivers State; Police Clear Suspect’s Sister
A young woman identified as Rita Special has been confirmed dead after she was allegedly murdered and buried in a forest in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to police reports, the incident followed an arrangement in which Rita, who was reportedly engaged in paid companionship services, was contacted by a man identified as Goodnews Ebere, a native of Rumukunde community in Emohua LGA. Investigations revealed that Goodnews became aware of Rita through a WhatsApp status posted by his sister, Blessing Ebere.
Police sources stated that Blessing Ebere first sought Rita’s consent before sharing her contact details with her brother, informing Rita that he was interested in meeting her. The meeting was later arranged, with Rita reportedly charging ₦200,000 for a one-night engagement.
Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that investigations have shown that Blessing Ebere was not an accomplice in the crime. According to the police, she had no knowledge of her brother’s alleged intention to harm Rita and only acted as an intermediary, a practice investigator described as common in social introductions.
Authorities allege that Rita was killed by Goodnews Ebere after the meeting, and her body was buried in a forest. The police further stated that the suspect is accused of murdering Rita and harvesting her organs, an allegation that remains under investigation.
The Rivers State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all those found culpable will be brought to justice. The tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for caution in social meet-ups and stronger measures to protect vulnerable individuals in the state.
