My Position on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Leadership of IPOB

I wish to state my personal view regarding the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

To me, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains the central figure and recognized leader of the Biafra movement. He is the person whose message inspired many people, including myself, to support the cause. His voice, sacrifices, and commitment have earned him the loyalty and respect of millions of followers around the world.

Throughout the years, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has appointed various individuals to leadership positions within IPOB. In my understanding, these appointments were made under his authority as the movement's leader. Therefore, I believe that those who accept appointments from him should also respect and abide by his decisions regarding leadership changes.

It is my opinion that disagreements within the movement should be resolved through respect for established authority, unity, and adherence to the principles upon which IPOB was built. Public insults, division, and personal attacks do not advance the cause and only create confusion among supporters.

For me, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains the symbol of the Biafra struggle and the person we recognize as the leader of the movement. As long as he is alive, we will continue to regard him as the foremost leader of the Biafra cause.

I call on all supporters to maintain peace, unity, discipline, and mutual respect while pursuing their beliefs and aspirations.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remain the supreme leader of biafra that office is unchangeable

The United States–based American Military Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID) has reaffirmed its support for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is serving a life sentence in Sokoto prison.

In a statement issued in the United States and dated June 6, 2026, the group—comprising Igbo military veterans who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces—declared its position on recent developments within the IPOB leadership structure.

The statement, jointly signed by AVID President, Chief Dr. Sylvester Onyia, and Secretary, Dr. Godson Obiagwu, also endorsed Kanu’s decision of June 17, 2026, dissolving the IPOB 3rd Directorate of State (DOS) and inaugurating a new 4th Directorate.

AVID maintained that, as IPOB’s leader and Director of Radio Biafra, Kanu retains full authority to restructure the organisation’s administrative framework in line with what it described as the broader interests of the Biafran people.

“Our position is clear and unwavering. His decision to reorganise the DOS is recognised as a legitimate exercise of that authority,” the statement said.

The group further stated that it recognises only Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as IPOB’s supreme leader and Director of Radio Biafra, adding that it will engage exclusively with officials duly appointed by him and their authorised representatives.

As military veterans, AVID said its members are committed to discipline, order, and respect for authority, warning against any actions that could destabilise communities in the South-East.

It cautioned that any attempts by members of the dissolved 3rd Directorate to resort to coercion, intimidation, violence, or disruption in Igboland would be regarded as a threat to peace and security in the region.

The group expressed confidence that the newly constituted 4th Directorate would provide a more disciplined, accountable, and structured leadership framework aligned with international standards of peaceful self-determination.
AVID also called on members of the public and the international community to support Kanu and the new leadership structure in the discharge of their responsibilities.

It congratulated Kanu, the new DOS leadership, and the global IPOB community, reiterating its commitment to peaceful engagement, human rights advocacy, and the pursuit of self-determination for the Biafran people.

Attention!

The leadership of IPOB is empowered and has the authority to assign ESN operatives to any community in Biafraland to confront Fulani herdsmen and jihadists without seeking permission from any traditional ruler , community leader or any politicians claiming to be representing Nigeria interest . Biafraland is at the verge of being heavily invaded by Fulani jihadist .

Once the IPOB intelligence unit informs the IPOB leadership with details and statistics regarding attacks by these jihadists, or any threats from Fulani herdsmen and jihadists, it is the responsibility of the IPOB leadership to react in the best possible manner to safeguard our people.

Biafrans must understand that the Nigerian military and some naive individuals in our communities are actively opposing ESN, who are capable of safeguarding them from attacks by Fulani terrorists. It's astonishing that those whom IPOB/ESN are trying to protect are the ones undermining their efforts.

In the end we shall see how it all ends .
