Ever thought a tiny change in your email could make a big difference? I recently learned that by adjusting how you set up your email header, you can instantly boost your open and response rates. Most people see email marketing as just having a “from name” and a “subject line,” but there’s more to it.
Think of your email as a mini ad—one that needs to create the right intent for the reader to take action. For example, I got an email from Jay Deiboldt that looked like this:
- From: #1 credit secret
- Subject: AVOID retail cards
- Prehead: They’re costing you dearly
This version felt disjointed. So, I reached out to Jay and suggested a tweak:
- From: Why you should
- Subject: AVOID retail cards
- Prehead: ...At all costs
Now, the email reads as one clear thought:
Why you should AVOID retail cards...they’re costing you dearly
It’s like comparing a confusing headline to a clear mini ad that cuts through the clutter of an inbox. This simple change builds better intent and leads to higher open rates. I even remembered a trick from back in 2008—using email to test out banner ads—proving that even small tweaks can have a big impact.
Give this change a try and let us know how it works for you. If you found this tip useful, give it a thumbs up so we can all get better together!
