Nobody Will Recognize Nigeria When President Tinubu Completes His Remaining 7 Years In Office —Godswill Akpabio.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in another public gaffe on Tuesday, said nobody would recognise Nigeria again by the time President Bola Tinubu completes his “seven years” in office, obviously gifting the latter a second term.
Akpabio weeks ago had said the old Nigerian national anthem was responsible for heightened banditry and insecurity in the country.

In his latest address, Akpabio on Tuesday told Nigerians not to worry about the challenges facing Nigeria but only pray for the success of the Tinubu’s administration, saying it would pay off in the next seven years. Speaking during the flag-off of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja on Tuesday, Senator Akpabio said, “I have no doubt that by the time the president is through with his tenure in the country, seven years from today, many people will not recognise FCT, they will not recognise Nigeria again.

“So, all I can say is: let us continue to pray for him and be hopeful that the challenges you see today, tomorrow, you will see them no more. He did it in Lagos and today, Lagos is one of the best; one of the largest economies in Africa when we are talking about cities.” On the project, the lawmaker said, “This is for me another major wonder of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. This is a way to cater to a city of this nature. This is a way to cater to the people of the area councils, the FCT residents and visitors alike.”

Akpabio, who also extolled President Tinubu for picking former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike as the FCT Minister further said, “So, I believe that you are a square peg in a square hole and I must thank the President for having the eyes to pinpoint those who can perform and bringing them.”

Police arrest Rivers vigilante commander with human skulls.

The Rivers State Police Command said its men have arrested the commander of a local vigilante group identified as Felix Nwaobakata with two human skulls and other parts at his hideout in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.

Also, the police said its operatives, in a clampdown on the excesses of vigilante groups operating in the state, arrested seven other members of the local security outfit for sundry crimes, including murder.

Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Wednesday

Iringe-Koko said Nwaobakata, who is the Commander of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee codenamed OSPAC was a principal suspect in the murder of two brothers in Idu in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA of the state on May 1, 2024, on the allegations that they were kidnappers.

The statement noted the arrest of Nwaobakata and other OSPAC members followed numerous complaints about their operations in different parts of the state, especially in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LG, saying the operatives of the outfit recently attacked a police division in Omoku and clashed with other security agencies.

The statement read, “The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a clampdown on the excesses of vigilante groups operating within the state.

“This follows numerous complaints about the operations of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee in different parts of the State, predominantly in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, as well as clashes with other Security Agencies by this Vigilante Group.

“On May 9, 2024, Alhaji Usman Seleh, the Chairman of the Hausa Indigenous Group in ONELGA, reported that OSPAC had abducted a member of his group. He proceeded to report the matter to the police. Consequently, the police invited the ONELGA OSPAC Commander, Felix Nwaobakata, who refused to honour several invitations.

“Instead, the OSPAC outfit coordinated an attack on the police division in Omoku but the attack was thwarted as the police repelled them.

“Following this development, Tactical Units of the command stormed the ONELGA OSPAC Camp at Omoku and arrested Cheta Benjamin, Joshua Ekwosa, Innocent Ahiakwu, and four others.

“The ONELGA OSPAC Commander, Felix Nwaobakata, was subsequently arrested in his hideout in Omoku on June 17, 2024 where two human skulls and human bones were found in his possession.

“The arrested OSPAC Commander, Felix Nwaobakata, is also a principal suspect in the murder of two brothers, Collins Ugorji (32) and Newman Ugorji (39), of the Idu Community in ONELGA.”

The brothers were said to have been killed on May 1, 2024, by the OSPAC on the allegation that they were kidnappers.

Their motorcycles were reportedly confiscated, and their bodies taken to the OSPAC secretariat in Omoku.

In another related incident, the state police spokesperson said, “On May 3, 2024, the Youths of Egbeda Community in Emuoha LGA staged a peaceful protest to Lubrik Construction Company at Egbeda, and after being addressed by the Police, they dispersed but were ambushed by a group of OSPAC members led by the Egbeda OSPAC Commander, Friday Ogbuji, who shot and killed the Youth Leader, Innocent Didia.

“The Rivers State Police Command has made further arrests and will continue to investigate these cases and other related ones, which will then be charged to a Court of competent Jurisdiction.

“The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu has advised that any resident who has complaints of assault, extortion, or illegal detention should make a report at the nearest police station.

“The Rivers State Command is committed to carrying out its duty of protecting lives and property. It will not tolerate any act of illegality, excessive use of force, torture, fraudulent conversion of properties, and other varying forms of criminality by the OSPAC or any other vigilante outfit.”

Disu said that while recognising the relevance and importance of these vigilante groups in the community policing system, the command will keep engaging and synergising with these groups on what is expected of them and their limitations.

2024 WASSCE Fees: Borno Gov't Pays Over N500 Million for 25,075 final-year students

Borno State Government has shown its commitment to education equity by disbursing N507,654,000 to cover the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for 25,075 final-year students in public schools across the state.

This was disclosed by Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, Honourable Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, on Wednesday during the disbursement ceremony at the multipurpose hall of the Quality Assurance Office of the Ministry of Education in Maiduguri.

"Borno State Government has consistently subsidised these examination fees by 75%," Commissioner Wakilbe said, "and this year's disbursement is part of that commitment."

The commissioner emphasised government's dedication to a level playing field in the school system. "His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Borno State Governor, has fulfilled his promise," he declared. "Students in both public and private schools can now access their results simultaneously."

"Borno State Government expressed its sincere gratitude to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). "We are deeply grateful to WAEC for supporting the state's resettlement efforts," Wakilbe said.
"Extending WASSCE examinations to almost all parts of the state has significantly alleviated the challenges faced by our students."

Meanwhile, the education commissioner commended school principals that adhered to examination ethics and quotas. However, he warned against any malpractice, stating "government will take punitive measures against any school principal that registers students without records or history in the school. While we support genuine ex-students with school records retaking examinations, we oppose the practice of registering external candidates without proper records."

Wakilbe further elaborated on the negative consequences of this practice, explaining, "This illegal activity leads to issues with student record verification, indiscipline, corruption, and malpractice in public schools, placing a heavy financial burden on the government and straining scarce state resources."

He went on to say "Furthermore, any principal of a public school whose examination centre is derecognized due to malpractice will be removed from their position." The Ministry of Education will submit a list of accredited private schools for consideration in the 2025 WASSCE. Borno State Government, under the leadership of Governor Zulum, remains committed to supporting education and ensuring all students have a fair chance at success.

Responding to the commissioner, Mr. Zakari Ya'u Abdullahi, Zonal Coordinator of WAEC, Borno State, confirmed the payment of the funds. "This presentation we are making today signifies that the funds have been paid and are already in the account of West African Examinations Council," he said.

"By the special grace of God, whenever we finish marking and the results are released, you can be assured that the results for all candidates, both government-sponsored schools and private schools, will be released at the same time." This aligns with Governor Zulum's earlier promise of ensuring equal access to results for all students.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from representatives of the schools and students. Abba Ali Ladan, President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), spoke on behalf of the schools, while Ahmad Kyari Ahmad the president of National Union of Borno state Student union NUBOSS delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the students. They expressed their gratitude to Borno State Government for its continued support of education in the state.

Nnamdi Kanu Agrees To Abide By Any Condition FG Gives For His Release.

The embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has agreed to abide by any condition the Federal Government would give for his release from detention.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, when he led other Senators from the South East region of Nigeria to a meeting with the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, to demand the release of the detained IPOB leader.

Abaribe, who is also former Senate Minority Leader disclosed that he had already met with Kanu at the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Even though the meeting was held in camera, however, Senator Abaribe, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said he was optimistic that the AGF would persuade the Federal Government to heed to the call for Kanu’s release.

He maintained that the continued detention of the IPOB leader was responsible for the rising level of insecurity and agitations in the South East region.

According to him, unless Kanu is released, social and economic activities within the region would remain stagnant.
The meeting between the lawmakers and the AGF came barely one day after all the Governors from the South East region resolved to approach President Bola Tinubu to beg for Kanu’s freedom.

Earlier, about 50 members of the House of Representatives from various parts of the country, urged President Tinubu to free the detained IPOB leader.

The representatives, who identified themselves as “Concerned Federal Lawmakers for Peace and Security in the South East”, prayed President Tinubu to direct the AGF to invoke Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, to terminate the terrorism-related charge that is pending against Kanu before the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.

It will be recalled that Kanu was first arrested in Lagos on October 14, 2015, upon his return to the country from the United Kingdom.
Trial Justice Binta Nyako had on April 25, 2017, granted him bail on health ground, after he had spent about 18 months in detention.
Upon the perfection of the bail conditions, he was on April 28, 2017, released from the Kuje prison.

However, midway into the trial, the IPOB leader escaped from the country after soldiers invaded his country home at Afara Ukwu Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State, an operation that led to the death of some of his followers.

Senator Abaribe, who initially stood as his surety, alongside two others, subsequently applied to the court to be allowed to withdraw from the case.

Not satisfied with Abaribe’s claim that he was not aware of the whereabouts of the defendant, the trial court ordered him to forfeit the N100 million he deposited as bond to secure Kanu’s bail.

Meanwhile, Kanu was later re-arrested in Kenya on June 19, 2021 and extraordinarily renditioned back to the country by security agents on June 27, 2021.

Following the development, the trial court, on June 29, 2021, remanded him in custody of DSS, where he remained till date.
On April 8, 2022, the court struck out eight out of the 15-count charge that FG preferred against him on the premise that they lacked substance.

Likewise, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, on October 13, 2022, ordered Kanu’s immediate release from detention even as it quashed the charge against him.
Dissatisfied with the decision, FG took the matter before the Supreme Court, even as it persuaded the appellate court to suspend the ex*****on of the judgement, pending the determination of its appeal.

CARETAKER CHAIRMAN OF OGU/BOLO, EVANS BIPI, ACCUSES BOMA IYAYE OF USING HIS POSITION TO HARASS THE PEOPLE.

The Caretaker Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Evans Bipi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to call the Executive Director of Finance and Administration (EDFA) of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Boma Iyaye to order for abusing his position.

Speaking in Bolo Town during a Familiarization visit to the area, Evans Bipi said the manner in which the EDFA of NDDC has been conducting his personal affairs as an indigene of the area is capable of causing a breach of the existing peace in the area.

He accused Boma Iyaye of using his position in NDDC to harass and intimidate the peace-loving people of Ogu/Bolo just to please his political godfather and Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike.

Evans Bipi also accused the EDFA of NDDC of constantly holding unlawful procession and protest in Ogu/Bolo to create tension and unnecessary supremacy battle in the area just to impress the Minister of FCT at the detriment of the peace of the area.

“The EDFA of NDDC has continued to deceive himself and his political godfather that he is in control of the political landscape of Ogu/Bolo just to save his job in NDDC by holding illegal protest in the area, intimidating and provoking people to anger and causing disruption of lawful businesses in the area”.

“The unprovoked and unwarranted action of the EDFA of NDDC poses serious threat to the sustenance of peace in Ogu/Bolo that is adjudged as one of the most peaceful LGA in Rivers State”.

“Mr. President should know that the EDFA of NDDC is using his position to stoke violence and cause crisis in his Local Government Area instead of using it for public good”.

“It is therefore imperative for the President to call him to order to forestall a breakdown of law and order in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area”

The Caretaker Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Evans Bipi also described the conduct of the EDFA of NDDC Boma Iyaye as shameful, disheartening and unbecoming of a public officer who shares in the core mandate of the NDDC to fast-track development of the Niger Delta region and complements the development efforts of both State and Local Governments in the region.

He urged the peace-loving people of Ogu/Bolo to continue to remain peaceful and law abiding in the face of provocation by those he described as anti-democratic forces who do not mean well for the Local Government Area.

On the issue of development, the CTC of Ogu/Bolo Evans Bipi said the Council will provide 4 power generating sets for Bolo Town to boost power and water supply in the area.

He also announced the immediate dissolution of the Electricity and Water Committee of Bolo Town appointed by the immediate past administration of the Council and announced the reconstitution of a new Committee to work in line with the vision of his administration.

He tasked the new Executives of Electricity and Water Committee of Bolo Town to key into the foolproof plan of his administration to bring a lasting solution to the perennial problem of power and water supply in the area.

The CTC Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Evans Bipi also visited Wakama Community where he promised to improve the living condition of the people through his economic empowerment programme.

He promised to support Fishermen/Women in the Community by providing them with the necessary fishing equipment to boost their trade.

Evans Bipi also urged the Youth of Wakama Community to remain peaceful and eschew social vices and all tendencies capable of causing a breach of the existing peace in the area.

The Ogu/Bolo Council Boss Evans Bipi accompanied by some political bigwigs in the LGA and members of the Caretaker Committee also paid a courtesy visit on the Monarch of Bolo HRH, King Acheseinimie Micah Frank, BoloLuka VIII during the familiarization visit to Bolo Town.

PDP chieftains knock Fubara for attacking party.

Chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Tuesday, chided the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over his versal onslaught against the party.

Two members of the PDP National Executive Committee, Timothy Osadolor and Diran Odeyemi, described Fubara’s behaviour as unfortunate and uncalled for.

Fubara, last week while hosting some lawmakers in Rivers State, said the PDP failed the people of Rivers State by keeping quiet amid the raging political crisis in the state.

Fubara, who is having a running battle with his predecessor and estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, said Rivers relied on its principles of truth rather than party politics, asserting that the state would no longer be constrained by party affiliation and instead stand firm to defend democracy on its terms.

”In our state today, we are no longer doing party. We are doing a movement, so you don’t blame me if I don’t go to the side of the party too much.

“The party has failed us here. So what we are doing here is to stand with our two legs on the soil of Rivers State, so that we can defend democracy,” Fubara said

But PDP NEC members, who spoke to our correspondent on Tuesday, described the governor’s remarks as unfortunate and warned him against directing his frustration toward the party.

Odeyemi, who is a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary, said there were rules and a constitution guiding party members, stressing that the governor should have used alternative methods to address his grievances, instead of ridiculing the party.

“It is quite unfortunate when a governor speaks in public like that. We believe, as a governor, he knows the rules and the constitution of the party and shouldn’t have spoken in that manner.

“We are not saying there cannot be a misunderstanding of these rules. That is why we have, in the constitution, ways and manner of resolving the issues.

Tony Okocha Led Rivers APC, Amaechi camp differ on upcoming LG poll

The All Progressives Congress Caretaker Committee, led by Chief Tony Okocha, and the camp loyal to the former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, are on a collision course over the party’s participation in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, led by Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.), announced on Monday at a stakeholders’ meeting that the state would conduct the LG elections on October 5 in the 23 local government areas of the state.

While the Okocha-led APC CTC remained sceptical about participating in the elections, the Amaechi camp expressed its determination to field candidates.

Reacting to the stakeholders meeting convened by the electoral commission, Okocha said neither he nor the party was invited.

Okocha said, “I was not invited. My party was not invited. My party is too big not to be officially invited to an event like that. I am too big to attend an event to which t I was not officially invited.

“RSIEC refused to officially invite me as the chairman of a major opposition party in the state. I saw information about the stakeholders meeting on social media.

“I was in the church on Sunday and I sent a mail to the chairman of RSIEC and he replied that APC was a major stakeholder. My party can only take part in the election only if things are done right.”

Corroborating Okocha’s views, the APC CTC Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, said the main opposition party in the state was absent at the stakeholders’ meeting called by RSIEC because it did not receive any official communication.

Ikenga, however, said the party would decide when it received an official communication, even as he accused the commission of starting on a wrong footing.

“In a matter that is critical as that, ordinarily as a party and other parties, we ought to have been formally invited.

“If they (RSIEC) invited other parties officially, they
