Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi Marks Birthday as DMOMA Awards Extols His Leadership, Academic Excellence

Distinguished academic, administrator, and Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, has been celebrated on the occasion of his birthday, with the Board of Trustees of DMOMA Awards paying glowing tribute to his outstanding contributions to education, leadership, and national development.

"When It's Your Turn, Teach Your Children Igbo" — Mr P Says His Children Speak French, Chinese and English, Not Igbo

Afrobeats singer and former member of the now-defunct P-Square duo, Peter Okoye (Mr P), has stirred reactions after suggesting that his children have no need for the Igbo language, saying they are fluent in French, Chinese and English instead.

The singer made the remarks after a fan asked whether his children also speak Igbo, following his post celebrating their proficiency in French.

Responding, Mr P said his children have nothing to do with the Igbo language. He added that if others consider Igbo and other Nigerian indigenous languages important, they are free to teach them to their own children.

His comments have sparked debate online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the declining use of indigenous languages among younger generations.

RIRS Chairman Sir Israel Egbunefu Honoured with Rotary Leadership & Public Service Award

The Executive Chairman of the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS), Sir Israel O. Egbunefu, FCTI, has been honoured with the prestigious Rotary Leadership & Public Service Award in recognition of his exemplary leadership, integrity, accountability, and outstanding contributions to public service.

The award was presented during the installation ceremony of Rotarian Bose Anita Elias (PHF) as the 7th President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rebisi Kingdom, held at the Golden Tulip Hotel on Stadium Road, Port Harcourt, on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

The ceremony also featured the inauguration of the club’s Board of Directors, the induction of new members, the presentation of awards, and the launch of community service projects aimed at advancing humanitarian initiatives across Rivers State.

Presenting the award, Rotary Trustee in Rivers State, Mrs. Ijeoma Pearl Okoro, praised Sir Israel Egbunefu for his exceptional leadership qualities, describing him as a public servant whose integrity, fairness, transparency, and commitment to excellence have earned him widespread respect. The presentation was witnessed by his wife, a foundational member of the Rotary family.

In his acceptance remarks, Sir Israel expressed appreciation to the Rotary family for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Rotary Clubs across Port Harcourt and Rivers State in delivering impactful humanitarian and community development projects.

Reflecting on his journey, the RIRS Chairman recalled his tenure as a former President of the Rotaract Club of Port Harcourt Township, describing Rotary as the institution that nurtured his passion for leadership, service, and community development.

His wife also expressed gratitude to the Rotary family, noting that their relationship began through the Rotaract movement and that they would remain grateful for the enduring values, friendships, and opportunities the organisation had provided.

The colourful event attracted an array of dignitaries, including past Rotary presidents and governors, traditional rulers, educators, philanthropists, political leaders, business executives, professionals, Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, and other distinguished guests united by Rotary’s enduring ideal of “Service Above Self.”
