Chijoke Ihunwo, Oko-Jumbo Were Screened Out Because They Don’t Belong To A Political Camp—Yamaabana

An aspirant for the Rivers State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress, Legborsi Yamaabana, has accused the party’s screening committee of unfairly disqualifying several candidates during the party’s Assembly primaries in Rivers State.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Yamaabana said 98 aspirants participated in the screening process, but only 33 were cleared to contest for the 32 Assembly seats in the state.

According to him, the outcome showed that the screening committee had already determined who would emerge from the primaries before the exercise was completed. He claimed the process was unfair and harmful to the party’s chances in future elections in Rivers State.

Yamaabana, who described himself as the President-General of Ogoni Youth and a grassroots politician, said he and other well-known figures were screened out because they did not belong to a particular political camp within the party.

He mentioned former Obio/Akpor Local Government Chairman Chijoke Ihunwo, former Speaker Oko-Jumbo, and some serving lawmakers among those affected by the screening exercise.

The APC aspirant said the screening committee did a disservice to the party by sidelining candidates with strong grassroots support. While calling for Tinubu's intervention, he warned that internal division and exclusion could weaken party unity and affect its performance in future elections in Rivers State.

In his words, "I'm a popular candidate from the grassroots, together with people like Chijoke Ihunwo, former chairman of Obia/Akpor, people like Goodboy, Oko-Jumbo, serving assembly members being screened out just because they don't belong to one political camp."

"Fubara may not be as lucky as Ambode because even while the later fought to retire his benefactor from Lagos politics, he still worked with the legislators to ensure that the expenditures of government were properly appropriated for and approved by the state assembly."

"Gov Fubara will be 3 years in office tomorrow, 29th May, with no appropriation law , while he continues to expend funds."
"He has 1 year left to complete his 4 years single term."
