WHY ARE GOSPEL ARTISTS MOVING TO OTHER GENRES?

This is the question we don't ask enough.
A gospel artist starts making a secular music.
And immediately the church says they have backslidden.
But what if we asked another question first?

What happened?
Maybe they got tired.
Maybe they weren't supported.
Maybe they couldn't survive financially.
Maybe nobody believed in their career.
Maybe they discovered that outside the church, people were willing to invest in their talent.
Maybe they wanted to reach a wider audience.
Or maybe they simply made a bad decision.

Whatever the reason, condemnation doesn't answer the question.
If we want to keep our talented creatives within gospel music, we have to create an environment where they can actually grow.

Churches, please do better.

“YOUR GIFT IS FOR GOD”

This statement sounds spiritual.
But sometimes, it has been used to silence many creative.
Yes, an artist’s gift is ultimately for God.
But the artist is still a human being.

They have bills.

They have dreams.

They need equipment.

They need training.

They need promotion.

They need mentorship.

They need opportunities.

They need people who believe in what God has placed inside them.

If a church can spend millions building structures, organizing programs, buying equipment and promoting events, but consistently tells its musicians, singers and creatives:

“Just serve God. Don’t worry about money.”

Then we need to ask an uncomfortable question:

Are we honoring the gift, or simply benefiting from it?

Supporting an artist doesn't mean worshipping the artist.

It means recognizing the person carrying the gift.

Our Church, Please do better.

Don’t judge an artist who doesn’t stay in one church for long.

Maybe the problem isn’t the artist.

Maybe they got tired of serving where their gift was only needed on the altar, but never appreciated, developed, or supported.

Some pastors are so focused on growing the church that they forget the people helping to build it are also trying to grow.

You can’t keep telling an artist, “Your gift is for God,” while refusing to support the person carrying that gift.

Sometimes, an artist isn’t looking for another church.

They’re looking for a place where their gift is seen, valued, and given room to grow.

Before you call the artist unstable, ask yourself: what did the church do to make them want to stay?
