MY HUSBAND’S SECOND PHONE
I never suspected my husband was cheating.
In fact, I used to laugh whenever my friends complained about their husbands. I always told them, “My husband is different. He is too busy for those things.”
We had been married for six years, and we had two children.
Then one Saturday morning, I was cleaning the house when I found a phone underneath our mattress.
It wasn't his regular phone.
I picked it up and tried to unlock it.
The password was my birthday.
That alone made me smile.
I thought, Aww, this man really has nothing to hide.
Then I opened WhatsApp.
There was only one chat pinned at the top.
The contact was saved as “My Peace ❤️.”
I opened it.
The first message I saw was:
«“I miss you already. When are you coming back?”»
My heart stopped.
I kept scrolling.
There were messages going back almost three years.
THREE YEARS.
This wasn't a recent affair.
It was a whole relationship.
And then I saw pictures.
The woman was beautiful.
But what broke me wasn't the pictures.
It was one particular message from my husband.
He had written:
«“If I had met you before I got married, you would have been my wife.”»
I sat on the floor for almost an hour.
When he finally came home, I didn't confront him immediately.
I cooked his favourite meal.
We ate together.
The children were playing in the sitting room.
Then, after they went to bed, I placed the second phone on the table.
He looked at it.
His face changed immediately.
I asked only one question:
“Who is she?”
He was silent.
Then he said something I never expected.
“She is my first love.”
Apparently, they had broken up years before our marriage because their families didn't agree with the relationship.
He claimed they reconnected after our wedding.
He insisted they had never slept together.
But they had been emotionally involved for almost three years.
I asked him:
“So why did you marry me?”
He looked at me and said:
“Because I love you too.”
That answer destroyed me even more.
Because suddenly I realized that sometimes a person can love you and still hurt you.
I left the house that night with my children and went to my mother's place.
It's been two weeks now.
My husband has been begging me to come back.
He says he made a mistake.
He says he will cut her off completely.
But the woman has also been calling me.
Yesterday, she sent me a message:
“Please don't destroy what we have. He was mine before he became yours.”
Now I'm confused.
My husband says I'm his wife.
She says she was his first love.
And I'm beginning to wonder…
Can a marriage survive when one partner never truly let go of their first love?
