A Nigerian man has sparked heated reactions online after revealing why he allegedly cancelled his daughter’s wedding just days before the ceremony.
According to him, he married a single mother over two decades ago when her daughter was only three years old. He said he accepted the child as his own and went on to raise her alongside the three children he later had with his wife.
The man explained that he gave the young woman the best life he could afford, trained her through university, and supported her until she became a medical doctor at the age of 27.
Excited about her upcoming wedding, he reportedly took full responsibility for the ceremony, paying for the hall, catering, drinks, cake, engagement party, reception, and other major expenses.
However, the situation reportedly changed a few days before the wedding when his daughter informed him that she wanted her biological father to walk her down the aisle instead of him. According to the man, the decision was also supported by his wife.
He claimed the biological father had played little or no role in the girl’s upbringing and only reconnected with her about six months ago.
Feeling deeply hurt and unappreciated after 24 years of raising her, the man said he immediately contacted all the vendors, cancelled the wedding arrangements, recovered his payments, and travelled out of the country.
“I told my daughter to ask her biological father to sponsor the wedding if he wants to take the fatherly honour,” he reportedly said.
The story has since generated widespread debate online, with many Nigerians divided over whether his actions were justified or too extreme.
