U.S. House Of Representatives Speaker, McCarthy Impeached, Becomes First To Be Removed In Country’s History.

The United States House of Representatives Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, has been impeached.
McCarthy lost the fight for his political life after lawmakers decided to oust the California Republican from the speakership.
It is the first time in U.S. history that a speaker of the House has been fired.

According to USA Today, the rebellion, led by conservative hardliner Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., roiled the House in chaos. The move to oust McCarthy – known as a motion to vacate – had the support of a handful of hard-right lawmakers who have expressed anger at McCarthy for working with Democrats to avert a government shutdown.

With House Republicans’ razor-thin majority, McCarthy’s fate appeared to fall in the hands of Democrats, who huddled in an extended closed-door meeting Tuesday morning to discuss strategy but ultimately decided not to save McCarthy.

Supreme Court Fixes October 5 For Hearing Of Nnamdi Kanu's Case Challenging His Illegal Detention.

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed Thursday, October 5, 2023 for hearing on two separate appeals filed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through his Counsels and against his continued detention.

The appeal to hear on Thursday are marked SC/CR/1394/2022, NNAMDI KANU V. FED. REP OF NIGERIA; and SC/CR/1391/2023, FED. REP OF NIG VS NNAMDI KANU.

The lead counsel of the detained Leader of the pro-Biafra group, Mike Ozekhome, confirmed the hearing date on Saturday.
Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, leads Ifeanyi Ejiofor and others in the appeal which they had formerly won at the Federal High Court and at the Court of Appeal.
