TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP OF RUMUEME KINGDOM MOVES TO EMPOWER WOMEN

In a strategic move to address the challenges facing women in Rumueme Kingdom, amplify their collective voice, and enhance their socio-economic wellbeing, the traditional institution of Rumueme Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty, Henry Nyeche Nsirim, has established a dedicated empowerment platform for the women.

At its inaugural meeting held at the Royal Palace of the Kingdom, the new Rumueme Women Empowerment Forum elected its Executives with Mrs. Maureen Johnson as Chairperson and Mrs. Susan Amadi as Vice Chairperson, while Mrs. Nyeche Jack Eunice emerged as Public Relations Officer, PRO.

Other elected members of the Executives include Victoria Princewill Chukwu as Secretary, Darling Chimerem as Assistant Secretary, Ibemeru Glory Chituru as Financial Secretary, Ruth Sampson as Provost I, Gloria Omasilichi as Provost II, and Irene Chikwe as Treasurer.

Membership of the Rumueme Women Empowerment Forum is drawn from the various communities of Rumueme Kingdom which include Rumukpakani, Rumuchida, Oro-Owo, Ibemerum, Oro-Azi, Oro-Agbolu, Mgbu-Oroazi, Eligbam, and Oroakwor, ensuring broad-based representation and grassroots inclusion.

Speaking at the meeting, a prominent daughter of the Nsirim Royal Family, Mrs. Elizabeth Ihunda Ogbonna, said the Forum was created to give Rumueme women a platform to discuss issues affecting them and explore ways the traditional leadership can improve their wellbeing.

She stressed that under the leadership of His Majesty, Henry Nyeche Nsirim, Rumueme women are being mobilized as key agents to advance socio-economic development, ensure lasting peace and social stability, and safeguard the strong family and cultural heritage of Rumueme Kingdom.

Mrs. Ogbonna disclosed that through the Forum the Nsirim Royal Family would initiative impactful programmes such as free medical outreaches, fundraising drives, economic empowerment, scholarships, women football match, among other initiatives for Rumueme Women.

She emphasized that issues that have made young women in Rumueme Kingdom vulnerable to social vices and other barriers inhibiting their development will also be addressed through the Rumueme Women Empowerment Forum.

In her remarks, the newly elected Chairperson of the Rumueme Women Empowerment Forum, Mrs. Maureen Johnson, expressed profound appreciation to the women of Rumueme and the traditional leadership of Rumueme Kingdom for the confidence reposed in her to lead the Forum.

She commended the Nsirim Royal Family for being compassionate, sensitive, and responsive to the needs and aspirations of Rumueme women.

According to her, these qualities reflect the commitment of the Royal Family to sustaining the enduring legacies of their late father, His Royal Majesty Omunakwe Nyeche Nsirim.

Mrs. Johnson pledged to work tirelessly with members of her Executive and the Nsirim Royal Family to ensure that the Forum becomes a true vehicle for empowerment, unity, and sustainable development for every woman in Rumueme Kingdom.

At UNIPORT's 36th Convocation Lecture, Nyesom Wike used his experience as FCT Minister to illustrate courageous leadership, emphasizing that infrastructure is the true driver of development and one of the clearest measures of effective governance.

He recalled being told that Abuja was not Port Harcourt and that replicating his achievements would be impossible. Despite criticism, resistance, and even threats, he said he remained committed to taking difficult decisions and pursuing development.

Many have claimed that Nyesom Wike's appearance at UNIPORT's 36th Convocation Lecture was more of a political campaign than an academic lecture.

However, a review of the full lecture shows that his presentation focused on leadership and infrastructure development in Nigeria, with President Tinubu's administration serving as a practical example of how government policies and projects can be used to assess leadership performance.

As Wike emphasized, infrastructure remains the true report card of leadership.
