Pastor Shyngle Wigwe has firmly rejected accusations that he seeks to claim his son Herbert Wigwe’s property.

In response to the claims, he asked, “How can I want to claim Herbert’s property, who is the best person to defend it—the father or the friend? My grandchildren are here, and how many years do I have left? So, what will I do with Herbert’s property?” His comments make it clear that, at 90 years old, he has no intention of taking over the property, stressing the need for a rightful protector of Herbert’s legacy.

A dispute has erupted between the Rivers State Ministry of Education and the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB) over the approval of a venue for the upcoming Garri Fest event.

The event organizer had received permission from the Ministry of Education to use Model Secondary School in Port Harcourt for the festival on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

However, this morning, RSUBEB staff locked the school’s gates, arguing that the approval bypassed the necessary due process, as RSUBEB holds jurisdiction over basic education facilities. As of now, neither the Ministry of Education nor RSUBEB has issued a public statement regarding the conflict.

Rev. Alex Onu, the newly appointed President of the Student Union Government (SUG) at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, has responded to criticism regarding his age. At 40, Onu faces backlash as many believe he is too old for the position, which is traditionally held by younger students.

In a statement, Onu defended himself, explaining that his “old look” may give off the wrong impression, but he remains youthful and capable of leading the student body. Despite the controversy, Onu remains confident in his ability to serve, arguing that age should not be a barrier to leadership.

Rivers State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has launched a biometric verification initiative to identify and eliminate “ghost workers” from the payrolls of the state’s 23 local government areas.

Announced on October 17, 2025, by Chairman Dr. Chris Amadi, the process will involve collecting biometric data, such as fingerprints, to cross-check employees’ records and prevent salary fraud.

The exercise, aimed at ensuring payroll accuracy and eliminating multiple employments, will be conducted across all LGAs with minimal disruption. LG workers are encouraged to cooperate as the process is non-punitive.
