How FG encourages corruption through budgetary allocation – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has accused the Federal Government of promoting corruption by not releasing from the yearly budget, the whole money required for a project within the required time frame.

The governor made the claims in his speech during the commissioning of the GRA Junction Flyover project in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The project was commissioned by a senior advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome.

The Governor said the practice by the Federal Government encourages variation of the value of the projects and leads to abandonment.

“You know, I don’t like the word variation. It is not in my dictionary. That is where you see corruption. That is why when you see Federal Government budget; how can you award a job of N60 billion, then in the budget of the year, you put N2 billion.

“What kind of contract is that? Why will there not be a variation? That job will last in the next ten years and that is the problem we have in our contract execution,” he said.

According to the Governor, in such cases, inflation may affect the value of the contract leading to a likelihood of adjustment of the items and eventually breeds corruption.

He also noted that he discourages that under his administration.

“Now, if you’re putting N2 billion each year, that means in ten years time, it’s N20 billion. So you cannot finish the project in 20 years. And then, looking at the inflation trend, every year, the contractor will put variation. Why?

“Because the price of things has gone up. So, they’ll put variation and at the end of the day, the job will not be N60 billion. It will go to N80 billion,” he added.

The PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, stated these, adding that "the only thing the APC is doing successfully is irresponsible borrowing."

Ayu said these in his inaugural speech at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja, during the inauguration of the newly elected national officers of the PDP.

The PDP helmsman assured Nigerians that the PDP under his National Working Committee (NWC) had returned to rescue and rebuild Nigeria.

He said, “From the biggest economy in 2015, the APC has given the country two recessions and turned Nigeria into the Poverty Capital of the world. Today, close to 40 million Nigerians have no jobs.

“In the last six years, the APC-led government has mismanaged our diversity; divided the country along regional and religious lines. It has exacerbated religious tensions in the country.

“And through its marriage to nepotism, the incompetent APC-Federal Government is fuelling secessionist agitations in the East and West of Nigeria.

“Your Excellencies, party faithful, very distinguished ladies and gentlemen, our dear Nigeria is drifting dangerously towards a failed state. Terrorists are now sharing sovereignty with Nigeria. Nigeria is simply ungoverned. Nigeria is collapsing under the leadership of a retired general.

Northern Youths Demand Buhari’s Resignation, Say President Has Run Out Of Ideas

A group of Northern Youths, under the Northern youth Council of Nigeria, has stated that following the rising security challenges that engulfed Nigeria, the best option for President Muhammadu Buhari is to humbly resign.

The NYCN added that Nigeria was deeply soaked in blood and lately turned into an abattoir where humans were roasted alive for the crime of daring to travel on roads that were constructed from the taxes they paid to the government.

Isah Abubakar, President of the NYCN, said this in a statement on Friday.

The statement reads, “The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to humbly resign since it is obvious that he has run out of ideas on how to subdue the terrorists that have taken over significant parts of Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Zamfara states and the busiest Kaduna-Abuja expressway on one side, and recently, the daring moves attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP which has continued unabated.

“It is embarrassing that President Buhari is idly watching the terrorist elements reigning supreme in our country, imposing taxes on his supposed citizens, stopping them yet, he is unperturbed. This is the clear characteristic of a leader that has run out of steam.

“In the alternative where he fails to eat the humble pie, we wish to call on the National Assembly to expedite action and initiate processes of impeachment against the President. Nigerians will certainly stand with them. This will equally help in redeeming the damaged reputation of the National Assembly.

“Where the above recommendation fails, Nigerians should do everything possible to defend themselves, we can’t continue to watch anarchists reign supreme over us, while we seat like cowards to be killed. It is better you are arrested and kept in prison for daring to defend yourself than to be buried in a grave because you didn’t dare to do something. Enough is Enough.”

The Kenyan Police have arrested a 27-year-old man, George Onderi after storming Suneka Police Station Report Office, while pretending to be a Military Police Sergeant to assault a female cop.

The man who arrived the police station around 9pm, drove a Toyota Belta car, declined effort to identify himself to Deputy OCS and proceeded to the station building.

He was said to have confronted Constable Mary Maina while wearing an inappropriate jungle uniform. Onderi “violently” assaulted the female cop, promoting instantaneous intervention by her workmates.

The suspect was immediately arrested after he failed to identify himself, and he is now being held at the station waiting for a full investigation from the DCI officers

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday said five students of Dowen College, as well as three housemasters of the school, are now in their custody over alleged involvement in the death of their colleague, Sylvester Oromoni Junior.

12-year-old Sylvester was said to have died from the injuries sustained during an alleged assault by five of his colleagues who wanted to initiate him into cultism.

Following the incident, the police authorities began an investigation on Monday and earlier quizzed three students.

According to the police, four of the students were allegedly mentioned by the parents of the victim to be directly involved in the crime while another student is assisting police investigations.

But addressing journalists on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Hakeem Odumosu, said nobody is above the law, adding that the police would carry out its work in line with the juvenile laws.

“The students whose names were mentioned are in police custody and investigation is on. Equally too, I have gotten in touch with my colleague in Delta State,” he said.

“Yesterday, I spoke with the mother of the deceased. I got them invited, so once they come now, we will be able to get the full facts of the case. The school has told us their own version of the case and the
