Fractional distillation is a refining method that separates crude oil into different products according to their boiling points. When crude oil is heated inside a distillation column, the lighter substances vaporize first and move upward, while the heavier substances remain lower in the column. Each fraction condenses and is collected at specific temperature levels.

Lighter products such as petroleum gas, gasoline, naphtha, and paraffin are obtained at lower temperature ranges and are widely used for cooking gas, vehicle fuel, aviation, and industrial processes. As the temperature increases, heavier products like diesel, fuel oil, and lubricating oil are drawn off, serving trucks, ships, generators, and heavy machinery.

This refining process is essential because it converts raw crude oil into many valuable products that support transportation, manufacturing, and other key sectors of the economy.
