Dear Governor of Ebony state,

We are now in 2026. Artificial Intelligence is writing books, cars are driving themselves, people are talking about smart cities and digital economies, yet some communities are still gathering under canopies to commission a mono pump as if a refinery has just been completed.

The funniest part is not even the mono pump. It is the full ceremony. Chairs arranged. MC on the microphone, Elders leaving their houses in their best clothes, Ribbon tied across a water pump. Long speeches about “dividends of democracy.” Then everybody claps when somebody cuts the tape and water comes out.

At this rate, by 2030 we might start commissioning wheelbarrows, cutting ribbons for public dustbins, and unveiling plaques for repaired padlocks.

A community deserves good roads, healthcare, schools, electricity and sustainable water systems, not a situation where a single mono pump becomes the biggest achievement worthy of a state celebration.

The elders that attended, I understand. Free food and soft drinks can tempt anybody. But the person that ordered balloons for a mono pump commissioning deserves special questioning.

Na that balloons pain me pass.
