AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY PASTOR UMOH B. ENO EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR AKWA IBOM STATE.

Your Excellency Sir,

A COMPASSIONATE APPEAL FOR IKPANYA CLAN TO PRODUCE THE NEXT CHAIRMAN OF IBIONO IBOM L.G.A

We write to congratulate you on your successful one year in office that had witnessed the distribution of developmental projects across the length and width of Akwa Ibom State and sequel to your readiness in rendering unflinching service to Akwa Ibomites and your abiding faith in a prosperous Akwa Ibom; where every man and woman regardless of ethnicity and religion can be proud and prosperous.

Your Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, with your vast knowledge of Akwa Ibom State prior to your inception, we belief you are aware that Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area has two (2) major clans namely; Ikpanya and Ibiono Clans. Permit us also to state that since the recognition of Ikpanya as one of the major clans in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area in the year 1954 with rich natural resources ranging from crude oil deposits (Petroleum), Palm Oil, Rubber and other agricultural produce.

Your Excellency Sir, we make bold to state that these great potentials are not properly harnessed due to the seeming marginalization and neglect of the clan over the years by successive governments. The deliberate act has further impoverished and relegated the people to the backdoor of history; as people deprived of sense of belonging and hence your urgent intervention.

Sir, we are proud that today we have a Governor who is very accommodating, down to earth and have listening ear. While we believed in very vehement terms that the time to liberate us from the doldrums of under-development and the shackles of poverty that have engulfed us as a people is no other time than now through your very visionary and focused leadership.

Your Excellency Sir, in terms of appointment we are subject to what the then American Military forces that invaded Iraq in 2003 under the command of General Tommy Franks famously described as “Shock and awe” and also what the German Army referred to as “Blitzkrieg” during second world war II.

Sir, permit us to give you an appraisal of political position in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area dated back to 1999. It is obvious that no indigene of Ikpanya has ever occupied either the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary of Council, House of Assembly membership, House of Representatives, or Senatorial positions.

These are political position in Ibiono Ibom Local Government since 1999.

1. 1996 - 1998 – Hon. Marcus Okuku – Ibiono Clan (Chairman)

2. 1999 – 2004 – Hon. Jackson Udofia – Ibiono Clan (Chairman)

3. 2004 – 2007 - Hon. Eyo Utit – Ibiono Clan (Chairman)

4. 2007 – 2015 – Rt. Hon. Godwin Ekpo – Ibiono Clan (Chairman)

5. 2007 – 2015 – Rt. Hon. Ekomabasi Akpan – Ibiono Clan (Chairman)

6. 2017 – 2020 – Hon. Ekopimo Policarp – Ibiono Clan (Chairman)

A similar record goes for the Vice Chairmanship position and Secretary of Council

For House of Assembly
1. 1999 – 2003 – Hon. Idoernyin Umoh – Ibiono Clan

5. 2023 – till date- Hon. Moses Essien – Ibiono Clan

A similar record goes for house of Representative and the Senate. It is glaring that Ikpanya Clan has never been involved in any power sharing or ever considered in any political office(s).

Lastly, kindly permit us to handle this golden opportunity with a touching consideration by appreciating your magnanimity and love in the rewarding of contracts for the construction of Ikpanya-Okpoto-Ukpakon road being the first of its kind since the creation of the clan. This will present a sense of belonging thereby strengthening your committed resolve to run an open-door administration where one will not be judge by the colour of his/her skin rather, by the contents of their character.

We humbly call on you to allow Ikpanya Clan to test the office of the chairmanship of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area in the forth coming Local Government elections. This is sequel to your essential sense of honour and the unflinching stand of your government to address marginalization and for the purpose of justice, equity and fairness which will go a long way to balance the political equation of the Local Government Area and give the people of Ikpanya Clan a clear sense of honour and belonging. We believed in your fatherly role, exemplified by your unequivocal, disciplined and uncompromising disposition to translate our lofty dreams into concrete realities.

We consider the utmost understanding of your esteemed regards.

Yours faithfully,

The move adds a significant boost to the ruling party's influence in the State, as Senator Bassey Albert was not only the YPP's Governorship Candidate but also a prominent well-respected figure in Akwa Ibom politics, known by many as the Political Lionel Messi of Akwa Ibom Politics having served in the 8th & 9th Senate as a Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District, Commissioner for Finance as longest serving for almost 8 years and as Vice President (South South) First City Monument Bank among various rich experiences in the Banking Sector.

The APC, known for its growing influence across the country, sees the inclusion of Senator Bassey Albert as a testament to its appeal and ability to attract key figures from other political parties into its fold . More than 500 core politicians in Akwa Ibom State not limited to Akparawa Ephraim Inyang Inyang-eyen, Rt Hon Usenobong Akpabio , Rt Hon Emmanuel Ekon defected with Senator Bassey Albert Akpan from YPP to APC at the event.

Group Blast ex Gov. Udom Emmanuel for seeking Tinubu's attention after pre-election insults

Akwa Ibom League of Professionals, ALP, has lambasted former Governor Udom Emmanuel for seeking President Bola Tinubu's attention despite all the unprintable names he (Udom) called the President during the 2023 Presidential election campaign.

In a statement issued yesterday in Lagos by its President, Ifiok Okon, the group noted that it is regrettable that Udom Emmanuel who once labelled President Tinubu with all manner of insults, is now trotting everywhere seeking to be in the good books of the President and spending millions of dollars to have access to the president today.

The group cautioned the President to be wary of the likes of Udom whom they described as opportunists and wants to reap from where they did not sow.

The statement reads in part: " We have watched keenly and observed how people like former Governor Udom Emmanuel are now seeking President Tinubu's attention after they took him to the cleaners with insults prior and during the 2023 presidential election.

"We remember vividly how Udom Emmanuel spent over five minutes talking down the President after the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential campaign in Akwa Ibom State saying Tinubu doesn't have anything to offer Nigerians just because he (Udom) was called "a boy" which he is.

"The 'Boy" locked the President and his entourage out of the VIP wing of the Victor Attah International Airport when the President landed for over 30 minutes, insisting that if the president's jet is allowed to be parked in the VIP wing that he will sack the MD of Ibom Airport .

"We recall that if not for Senator Godswill Akpabio, the "Boy" wouldn't have allowed President Tinubu to use the stadium for the campaign just because he (Udom) felt he is a demigod.

"That wasn't enough, Udom went ahead and claimed that the President isn't from Lagos but up till today, he is yet to tell us where President Tinubu is from".

"Again, Udom went on to deceive himself and his small minded impoverished followers that the first money President Tinubu ever received when he came back from NADECO exile to relaunch himself was from his desk but until now he has refused to tell the whole world the amount, and if at all, was the money his"? "What a shame", the statement continues.

"Udom boasted that Tinubu won't be the President of Nigeria, stating that there's nothing like "Emilokan" but what do we have today"?

"Emilokan has come to stay and the boy (Udom) has no option now than to be begging to see the President".

"This is a man who lives in the illusion of self-lust, believing in filtering away all the resources of the State on an endless voyage and bottomless pit of installing a puppet to cover his past deeds due to his belief that everyone has a price".

"This is a man who was caught boasting that he spent over $50m to purchase a judgement at the Supreme Court just like he has done at the two lower courts even to the extent of videoing Judges collecting bribes and sending them the video thereafter to compel them to do his biddings. What a desperate and shameful act of a drowning man". The group noted.

"Is this the reason Gov. Udom has been boasting that he has contracted the President Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Mensem to lobby the Justices of the Supreme Court to ensure the judgment is in his stooge's favor promising to give each justice in the panel $10m and the Chief Justice of Nigeria $15M as his retirement largesse since according to him is retiring soon?"

"The question we want to ask Gov. Udom and Pst. Umo Eno is what has been the impact of their administration in the last 8years and 7 months on the lives of the people they governed? Filtering away the entire resources of the State all in the name of installing a successor and institutionalizing occultism in Akwa ibom State"

"A man given to ingratitude and a betrayal of the highest order who can never keep his words. An issue at hand is his betrayal of Senator Akpabio who brought him to power as Governor of Akwa Ibom State but thereafter, he fought him out of the state but today he’s sending his stooge Pastor Umo Eno to befriend the same Senator Akpabio with all sort of mouth watering promises all to survive the immediate scare of the Supreme Court".

"The question is, if all is ok, why these frustrations and apprehension in a man who believes he has conquered Akwa Ibom State?" The group queried.

"Our sincere caution to President Tinubu is to be wary of people like Gov. Udom or his stooge because they are double-edged and speak from both sides of their mouth. They (Udom and Umo Eno) mean no good and should be avoided like a plague," the statement added.

FROM SUBSIDY PAIN TO ECONOMIC GAIN: Senator Bassey Albert Akpan speaks on the State of the Economy amidst Hike in fuel Price.

Yesterday, July 18, 2023, on Channels TV's program "Politics Today," anchored by Seun, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan offered a pragmatic perspective on the current state of the Nigerian economy, situating his narrative around the controversial issue of fuel subsidy, stating that the bold decision to remove the subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not just necessary, but a step in the right direction for the country's economic development.

Senator Akpan while speaking noted that the interplay of market forces should be allowed to determine the price of fuel, a stance that necessitates the complete removal of government influence.
"When you allow the interplay of market forces to determine price, you allow it a hundred percent, it's out of the government hands" he stated.

While this may initially lead to higher fuel prices, he firmly believes that in the long run, this will stimulate local refining, reducing associated costs like transportation and bunkering. This, in turn, would result in a significant decrease in the selling price of petroleum products.

In his speech, "What the government needs to do is to fastrack the working and refining of this product locally. When we refine it locally, there are certain elements of the market forces like cost of transportation, bunkering cost and other related costs will be excluded, this will cut down the selling price of the product"

Drawing on the history of the telecommunications industry in Nigeria as an example, the senator highlighted how market competition spurred the accessibility and affordability of mobile phones. Once regarded as a luxury item, cellular phones have become a staple in Nigerian households, thanks to competitive pricing. He sees a similar trajectory for the fuel industry if the government provides the space for market forces to play out.

"I give you an instance, When president Obasanjo came up with cellular network, MTN and Airtel of those days, a telephone was costing more than a hundred thousand naira because it was seen as something for the rich, but today because of market competition, people can now afford phones and have even two lines depending on the network that's working around them. Competition breeds efficiency and efficiency leads to a fall in price. I believe that Government needs time, minimum of six months" he said.

The Senator emphasized that the transition period following the subsidy removal will undoubtedly be challenging. However, he urged Nigerians to endure, stating, "It's just a matter of time, the pains we are going through today will be alleviated"

According to him, the previously existing fuel subsidy was not benefiting the average Nigerian, but instead subsidizing fuel costs for other countries.

"I believe the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu means well for Nigeria to even sum up courage and conviction to say Let this DEVIL called SUBSIDY go. Subsidy was not being enjoyed by ordinary Nigerians, that's why the president said I am for Nigerians and cannot be subsidizing for other countries" he added.

He also called on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to involve the National and Economic Council in the decision-making process. According to him, every action taken by the President must be interpreted and implemented by the State and Local Government to achieve the desired effects.

"in my opinion, I believe the President must call the National and Economic Council which has to do with the National, State and Local Government because every action taken by Mr. President must equally be interpreted by the State and Local Government for it to have the kind of effects that Nigerians are yearning for"

Senator Akpan's speech was a call to action and patience. He urged Nigerians to bear the short-term discomfort for long-term success. He argued that the removal of the fuel subsidy is a necessary sacrifice to stimulate competition, improve efficiency, and ultimately lead to more affordable fuel for all Nigerians. He ended with a hopeful note, foreseeing a time of national celebration after the current economic challenges are overcome.

"In the next couple of months when things start changing, after this pain will come the gain of celebration. We all must share in this pain and burden for things to work out in this country" he concluded.

*COASTING NEARER THE SHORE OF VICTORY*

Dear Brothers and Sisters

I bring to you all good tidings and assurances that our political voyage is rightly on course.

Accordingly, we reaffirm unequivocally our absolute faith in God that our collective expectations for the enthronement of a new government by the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Akwa Ibom State, under the stewardship of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA), CON, as the Governor is nigh.

As we coast nearer the shore, it becomes very necessary to buckle up, remain very resolute, committed and mobilizing all eligible voters across all parts of our State for the Governorship poll of March 11, 2023 to vote massively for Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA), CON to emerge victorious.

YPP’s victory at the poll will effectively emancipate Akwa Ibom State from the stranglehold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which governance of our dear state from 2015 has miserably gone from bad to worse. As we can bear witnesses, YPP is now the leading party in Akwa Ibom State and there is massive acceptability of our gubernatorial candidate as well as all other candidates of our great party - the Young Progressives Party during the forth coming elections.

We therefore call on all our teeming supporters, party men and women, all Akwa Ibom people and residents alike, not listen to our political detractors who are spreading rumour on the non eligibility of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA), CON for the poll. We reassure you all that our flag-bearer is firmly on the list of cleared gubernatorial candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and will stand and win the governorship poll on March 11, 2023 convincingly. Let us completely ignore the ill insinuations by the failing opposition in the state and look forward with hope for the swearing-in of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA), CON as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

As a campaign organisation and political party committed to the best ideals of democracy and seeking to ensure the birth of a people-centred governance in Akwa Ibom State, we encourage you all to march forward gallantly. With our banner of redemption, let no enticement; no matter the offers, threats or political victimization by our detractors dissuade us from our cherished cause. Let us focus on the coming victory!

Long live the Akwa UbokAbasi Campaign Movement

Long live Young Progressives Party (YPP), Akwa Ibom State!

Long live Akwa Ibom State!!
