WHY IS MY HAIR ISN’T GROWING LONGER ??
You’re definitely not alone in wondering that.
Hair growth can feel slow, but there are several possible reasons why it’s not growing as fast as you’d like. Here’s a breakdown to help you figure out what might be happening 👇🏽
1. Growth Is Happening You Just Don’t See It
Hair always grows (usually about ½ inch per month) but you might not notice it if you have natural or curly hair which shrinks up.
The ends are breaking at the same rate your roots grow. You’re not retaining length, even though growth is happening from the scalp.
2. Genetics and Growth Cycle
Everyone’s hair growth rate is different and largely genetic.
Your hair goes through 3 stages: growth (anagen), rest (telogen) and shed (catagen).
If your growth phase is naturally short, your hair won’t get as long before it sheds.
3. Nutritional Deficiency
Your hair needs protein, iron, zinc, biotin, and vitamins A, C, D, E to grow.
If your diet is low in these, growth can slow down.
Ensure you eat foods like eggs, fish, leafy greens, beans and nuts or consider a hair vitamin (with your doctor’s advice).
4. Scalp Health
A clogged or dry scalp blocks follicles and slows growth.
Try regular scalp massages with oils like rosemary or castor oil.
Weekly cleansing to remove buildups
5. Breakage and Damage
Even if your hair is growing, breakage can make it look stuck at one length.
Common causes like Heat styling, harsh detangling, Lack of moisture,Sleeping without a satin bonnet or pillowcase and doing styles that pull of the edges
💧 Keep your hair moisturized, gentle, and protected.
6. Stress or Hormonal Changes
Stress, postpartum shifts, or thyroid issues can disrupt the hair growth cycle.
If you’ve noticed sudden shedding or thinning, it might be worth checking with a doctor.
