Breaking: Gov Fubara Debunks Defection Rumours, Reaffirms APC Membership

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has firmly debunked rumours of his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that he remains a loyal member of the party.

The Governor made the clarification on Wednesday during an inspection visit to the New Psychiatric Hospital in Rumuoigbo, Elelenwo axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Speaking to journalists at the project site, Governor Fubara dismissed the circulating reports as baseless fabrications aimed at causing confusion.

“I am still a member of the APC. I have not defected and I am not defecting,” the Governor stated categorically.

He urged the people of Rivers State to disregard the rumours, describing them as the handiwork of political mischief makers.

The inspection visit to the New Psychiatric Hospital forms part of Governor Fubara’s ongoing assessment of key health infrastructure projects across the state aimed at strengthening the healthcare delivery system.

The Governor was accompanied by top government officials during the visit.

This latest statement comes amid heightened political speculations in Rivers State regarding possible realignments ahead of future elections. However, Governor Fubara’s firm position appears to have put an end to the immediate defection rumours.

Breaking: Wike-Backed PDP Rejects APC Alliance, Vows to Defeat Tinubu in 2027

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has firmly dismissed reports of any secret or formal alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party declared strong confidence in its ability to defeat President Bola Tinubu and the APC at the polls, describing claims of collaboration as misleading and mischievous.

In a statement responding to growing speculation about political realignments, the Wike-backed PDP faction reiterated its position as a committed opposition force. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, made the position clear in an exclusive interview, stressing that the party remains independent and focused on reclaiming power.

“We have no alliance or romance with the APC. The PDP is on its own, and our target is to defeat the APC,” the faction asserted.

The denial comes amid persistent rumours of behind-the-scenes understandings between some PDP leaders and the ruling party, fuelled by Wike’s continued service as a minister in President Tinubu’s cabinet. Critics within and outside the PDP have repeatedly accused the former Rivers State Governor of working against his party’s interests.

However, the Wike-aligned group pushed back strongly, insisting there is no plan to merge, align, or support the APC’s re-election bid in 2027. The faction expressed optimism about the PDP’s prospects, pointing to ongoing internal efforts to rebuild and present a formidable challenge to the ruling party.

Political observers note that the statement aims to reassure PDP members and stakeholders who have grown concerned over the party’s direction and the influence of powerful figures like Wike. It also seeks to counter narratives suggesting the PDP is being “held down” or weakened from within to favour President Tinubu’s second-term ambitions.

As Nigeria’s political landscape heats up toward 2027, the Wike-backed PDP’s latest position underscores the complex dynamics within the main opposition party. While some members push for broader coalitions, this faction is signalling a strategy of standalone confrontation with the APC.

Breaking: Gov Fubara’s Political Future Hangs In Balance As APC Set To Releases Cleared List Today

Aspirants who purchased All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination forms for the Presidency, Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly positions will finally know their fate today as the party is set to release the official list of cleared candidates.

According to party sources, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) has completed its screening exercise and is expected to publish the list of qualified aspirants later today. The development comes amid intense lobbying and high-stakes horse-trading within the party ahead of the upcoming elections.

The cleared list is expected to cover all elective positions, including presidential, governorship, senatorial, federal constituency, and state constituency aspirants. Many high-profile aspirants, including sitting governors and lawmakers who purchased forms for re-election or higher offices, are anxiously awaiting the outcome.

A top APC chieftain who spoke on condition of anonymity said the party leadership is determined to field only candidates with strong electoral value, wide acceptability, and those who meet all constitutional and party requirements.

“Today is D-day for many aspirants. The list of cleared candidates will be released, and those who didn’t scale through will also know where they stand,” the source said.

The release of the cleared list is a critical step in the APC’s nomination process. Aspirants who make the list will proceed to the party primaries, while those excluded may have to explore other options, including possible legal challenges or defection to other parties.

This exercise is coming at a time when the APC is also grappling with internal issues, including the earlier announcement regarding disqualified governors and assembly members.

Party stakeholders have been urged to remain calm and await the official communication from the National Secretariat.

The three-day programme is expected to cover critical areas such as party registration requirements, candidate nomination processes, campaign regulations, financial reporting, and compliance with the Electoral Act. APC Defends Rivers Governorship Aspirant Okey Chinda, Says Individuals Can Join Party At Anytime

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has defended the emergence of federal lawmaker, Hon. Okey Chinda, as a governorship aspirant in the party, insisting that any individual has the right to join the APC at any time.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Chibuike Ikenga, made this clarification while speaking on Nigeria Info FM’s Morning Crossfire programme on Tuesday.

Ikenga was responding to questions and criticisms surrounding the recent defection of Hon. Okey Chinda from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, and his subsequent participation in the party’s governorship screening exercise.

Addressing concerns about the timing of Chinda’s defection and his aspiration to contest the 2027 governorship election on the APC platform, Ikenga explained that the party’s constitution and guidelines make provisions for new members.

“Aspirants seeking to contest elections after joining the party are required to obtain a waiver from the party leadership,” he said. “The necessary waiver was duly granted to Hon. Okey Chinda by the appropriate organs of the party.”
He emphasised that the APC remains an open and inclusive party, welcoming qualified Nigerians who share its ideals and are willing to work towards the development of Rivers State.

Ikenga also reacted to reports of dissatisfaction among some aspirants who did not scale the party’s screening process. He urged them to follow due process rather than engage in public criticism.

“Any aggrieved aspirant who is dissatisfied with the outcome of the screening exercise should take advantage of the appeal window provided by the party,” he advised. “Resorting to media attacks does not help the party and does not portray us as a united family.”

He noted that the APC leadership is committed to fairness, transparency, and internal democracy in the selection of its candidates.

The APC spokesperson further cautioned against the circulation of unverified information regarding the party’s position and activities.

“All official publications from the APC, including the screening results, represent the current position and developments within the party,” Ikenga stated. “Party members and the general public should rely only on information from authorised channels.”

He assured Rivers residents that the APC is focused on building a strong, formidable structure capable of providing quality governance in the state.

The development comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum in Rivers State, with several high-profile politicians already making strategic moves across party lines.

BREAKING: FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Visits APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda in Abuja

In a move generating intense political buzz, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, on Tuesday paid a private visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, at his residence in Abuja.

The closed-door meeting, which took place in a relaxed atmosphere, has sparked widespread reactions after photographs of the two leaders surfaced on social media.

Context of the Visit

The engagement comes amid persistent speculation about Wike’s political future. Though he remains a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike serves in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led federal administration.

Professor Yilwatda had recently stated publicly that the APC door remains open for Wike should he choose to join the party, emphasising that membership is not compulsory. He also defended the current working relationship between Wike and the APC, noting that the PDP’s National Working Committee had approved the FCT Minister’s appointment and collaboration with the Tinubu administration.
