Wike Returns to Fubara’s Residence with Larger Delegation for Fresh Reconciliation Talks
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his delegation have again held a reconciliatory meeting at the private residence of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, in Port Harcourt.
This latest engagement, which took place on Sunday, October 18, 2026, featured a significantly larger gathering than previous sessions. The meeting brought together members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martin Amaewhule, National Assembly members, the 23 serving Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen, APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda, and supporters of Governor Fubara.
The expanded participation marked another step in ongoing efforts to consolidate peace between the two political camps that had been divided by a prolonged crisis in the state. Sources described the closed-door talks as part of renewed attempts to strengthen collaboration and resolve lingering differences ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting comes barely two weeks after an earlier high-level engagement on October 6, when Wike first visited Fubara’s private residence alongside key figures from the Rainbow Coalition. That earlier session lasted about four hours and was notable as the first time the governor personally hosted and participated in such talks with representatives from the opposing camp.
The reconciliation process follows months of tension that previously polarised the state’s political landscape, including disputes involving the state House of Assembly. A reconciliation committee earlier headed by former Senator Magnus Abe had already engaged Fubara and his camp in multiple sessions at Government House.
With both sides continuing direct dialogue at the governor’s residence, attention remains focused on whether these talks will produce lasting unity and a clearer political alignment as the state prepares for the next electoral cycle.
