OBOLO HERITAGE DAY 2026 HOLDS AT IGNATIUS AJURU UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION

Worldwide marked this year’s Obolo Heritage Day with a colourful celebration held today, 29th August 2026, at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.
The event, themed “Obolo Heritage Day 2026, brought together students, indigenes, and well wishers of Obolo (Andoni) extraction for an intimate gathering that celebrated the language, culture, and identity of the Obolo people.
Traditional rulers and chiefs from Obolo communities graced the occasion, lending royal presence and cultural weight to the celebration. In their remarks, the traditional rulers commended NUAS for sustaining a platform that keeps young Obolo students connected to their roots, even while pursuing academic excellence far from home.
A highlight of the day was the presentation of awards and recognitions to individuals and groups who have contributed meaningfully to the promotion of Obolo language, culture, and community development. The recognitions drew applause from the modest but spirited crowd of under a hundred attendees, many of whom described the atmosphere as warm and deeply cultural.
Speaking on the significance of the day, NUAS leadership reiterated the union’s commitment to preserving Obolo heritage among students both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing Heritage Day as an annual reminder of “who we are and where we come from.
The event closed with calls for continued unity among Obolo students and a renewed push to document and promote the Obolo language and traditions for future generations.
