Defensive midfielder, physically strong and Premier League experienced. He directly addresses Chelsea’s midfield shortage and can give Caicedo more freedom.

✅2. David Alaba (34)
Excellent versatility at CB/LB and huge experience, but Chelsea’s defensive situation isn’t as urgent as midfield.

✅3. Dani Carvajal (34)
Still a top-level right-back, but Chelsea already have Reece James and Marco Palestra competing for that area, while midfield is the bigger hole

Just when everyone were getting excited that Chelsea are about to make amends for their deadline day blunder, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea are not considering him😥

THE REALITY HERE IS 👀👀👇👇👇

With Chelsea already having Jordan Henderson who is not particularly expected to be starting games for Chelsea.🤓🤓

the addition of Wijnaldum could go in the same direction 🫣🫣

Henderson’s experience will be needed only when Chelsea start failing to win games or see off a lead, or begins to lose from a winning position👀

For those of you who may have forgotten him, this is all you need to know about him👇👇👇

🇪🇨 Kendry Páez — Player Profile

Age: 19
Born: 4 May 2007, Guayaquil, Ecuador
Height: 1.78m
Preferred foot: Left
Primary position: Attacking midfielder
Other positions: Central midfield, right wing
Current club: Chelsea
Contract: Reportedly until June 2033

Páez is essentially a creative No.10. His biggest strengths are his left foot, close control, passing between the lines, vision and ability to receive the ball in tight spaces.

He’s not primarily a physical, box-to-box midfielder. His game is much more about creativity, combinations and unlocking defences.

His Chelsea career so far

Chelsea agreed the deal for Páez when he was only 16, but FIFA regulations meant he couldn’t actually move to England until he turned 18.

So the pathway was essentially:

Independiente del Valle → Chelsea agreement → remain in Ecuador → Chelsea in 2025 → loan development

He officially joined Chelsea after his 18th birthday in May 2025.

Chelsea therefore immediately used loans to try to get him regular senior football.

🇫🇷 1. Strasbourg — 2025/26

His first European destination was Chelsea’s sister club, Strasbourg.

The idea was logical: instead of throwing a 18-year-old Ecuadorian directly into Premier League football, give him Ligue 1 experience in an environment connected to Chelsea.

He made:

* 21 appearances in all competitions
* 1 goal
* 15 Ligue 1 appearances
* 6 Conference League appearances

But the major problem was playing time.

He wasn’t establishing himself as an automatic starter. That became particularly concerning because Chelsea’s plan was for him to use Strasbourg as the bridge between South American football and Premier League football.

🇦🇷 2. River Plate — January 2026

Chelsea then recalled him from Strasbourg and sent him to River Plate for the remainder of 2026.

The thinking was again development: Páez would return to South America, play regularly and rebuild his confidence.

But it didn’t work.

🧩 Where could he fit at Chelsea?

This is where things become interesting given Chelsea’s current squad.

Páez’s natural position is No.10, but Chelsea already have players capable of occupying that creative space, particularly Cole Palmer.

He can also operate from the right, but Chelsea have considerable competition there.

So rather than immediately becoming a starter, Páez probably needs to develop into a more complete midfielder.

If he can add physicality, defensive work and tactical versatility to his natural creativity, he could eventually become something like a No.8/No.10 hybrid.

And with Enzo Fernández now gone, Chelsea have lost one of their major midfield creators. Chelsea also failed to complete the Lamine Camara deal on deadline day, according to reports.

All things are not rosy with Kendry Paez but Xabi Alonso can still get the best out of him🙏🙏

The departure of Enzo Fernandez may have may have cause a hole in Chelsea’s midfield but there is an emerging star in Valentin Barco🤩🤩

Barco is the closest to what ever Enzo offered Chelsea when he was available , Xabi Alonso must now trust him enough to do the job🫣🫣
