The Story of David and Goliath
In the valley of Elah, the armies of Israel and Philistia faced each other, ready for battle. The Philistine army was led by a giant of a man named Goliath, who stood over nine feet tall and wore armor that weighed over 125 pounds. For 40 days, Goliath taunted the Israelites, challenging them to send a warrior to fight him one-on-one.
The Israelites were terrified, and none of them dared to accept the challenge. But among them was a young shepherd boy named David, who was not a warrior but a humble servant of God. David's father, Jesse, had sent him to deliver food to his brothers, who were part of the Israelite army.
When David arrived, he heard Goliath's taunts and saw the fear in the eyes of the Israelite soldiers. He asked, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?" (1 Samuel 17:26)
The Israelites told David that the king, Saul, had promised to give great wealth and his daughter's hand in marriage to anyone who could defeat Goliath. But they also warned David that Goliath was a formidable warrior and that he, a mere shepherd boy, was no match for him.
David, however, was not intimidated. He replied, "The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." (1 Samuel 17:37)
Saul, the king, heard about David's bold claim and sent for him. When David arrived, Saul was surprised by his youth and inexperience. But David assured Saul that he had killed bears and lions while protecting his father's sheep, and that the Lord would be with him in the battle against Goliath.
Saul, though skeptical, decided to let David face Goliath. He offered David his armor, but David declined, saying, "I am not used to it." Instead, David took his shepherd's staff, picked five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in his pouch.
As David approached Goliath, the giant mocked him, saying, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field." (1 Samuel 17:44) But David replied, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied." (1 Samuel 17:45-47)
David then took out a stone and slung it at Goliath, striking him on the forehead. The stone sank into Goliath's forehead, and he fell face down on the ground. The Philistine army fled in terror, and the Israelites pursued them, winning a great victory.
David's victory over Goliath proved that God chooses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise and the weak things of the world to confound the mighty. David, a humble shepherd boy, was not a warrior, but he trusted in God and was victorious over the mighty Goliath.
As the apostle Paul wrote, "God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him." (1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
Have you been despised, ridiculed or mocked in this world, not to worry, there's good news for you: He will bring Greatness out of you. God will do something in your life, family, business and health that will cause those that laugh at you to laugh with you in no time in Jesus Mighty name Amen! 🙏
