Insiders at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have dismissed claims that confidence in president Patrice Motsepe’s leadership is declining amid reports of growing dissatisfaction among African football officials, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The denial follows a report by The Guardian suggesting that some officials within African football are increasingly unhappy with Motsepe’s leadership. The report also linked former Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o and other influential figures to a possible contest to succeed the CAF president.

Motsepe assumed office in March 2021 and has confirmed that he will not seek a third term when his current tenure ends in 2029.

Despite the reported discontent, CAF insiders maintain that there has been no significant decline in confidence in the South African businessman’s leadership of African football’s governing body.

The question of succession is expected to attract greater attention as Motsepe’s tenure draws to a close, with speculation likely to grow over potential candidates for the organisation’s top position.

However, claims of widespread dissatisfaction remain disputed, with CAF insiders rejecting suggestions that Motsepe has lost the confidence of African football stakeholders.

The identities of any prospective candidates and the extent of support for them have not been independently established.

Several victims were taken to hospitals for treatment, while shops, a mechanic workshop and vehicles were also damaged.

A resident, identified as Stanley, alleged that the pipeline had been leaking for about three weeks before the incident. He claimed that community leaders had reported the leak to the company, but no effective action was taken.

The Leader of the Eleme Legislative Council, Daniel Chuma, who visited the scene, said he had earlier written to the company and petitioned relevant agencies, including the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA, and the Rivers State Ministry of Environment, over the reported leakage.

Chuma expressed concern that the situation had resulted in the destruction of property and injuries to residents, adding that no representative of the company had visited the scene after the explosion.

Port Harcourt is set to host another edition of TEDxPortHarcourt as the organisers bring together conversations, creative experiences and networking under the theme “Common Grounds.”

The three-day programme, scheduled for October 15 to 17, 2026, combines discussions on technology and environmental responsibility with community activities designed to connect professionals, creatives, innovators and other participants.

The event’s Vibe Sessions will run from October 15 to 16 at Lush Gardens, while the main conference is scheduled for October 17 at the EUI Event Centre on Sani Abacha Road, GRA Phase 3, Port Harcourt.

Although TEDx is widely associated with talks and intellectual discussions, this year’s programme also offers a social and cultural experience, bringing people together through music, conversations and networking. The Vibe Sessions are expected to provide a more relaxed setting for participants to interact ahead of the main conference.

The theme, “Common Grounds,” explores the relationship between artificial intelligence and environmental responsibility. It examines how technological progress can improve productivity and support economic development without worsening environmental damage or social inequality.

This conversation has particular relevance to the Niger Delta, where decades of oil exploration and industrial activity have shaped the economy and raised persistent environmental concerns.

The announced speakers include Dr Akinwumi Fajola, Smart Israel, Capt. Warredi Enisuoh, Ifidon Oisamoje, Tochukwu Godwin, Robo Igbu, Uche Kalu, Professor Sodienye Abere and Ttuoyo Omagbitse Blessing. Their professional backgrounds span healthcare, technology, energy, environmental sustainability, wildlife ecology, and community development.

For Port Harcourt’s entertainment and creative community, the event provides another opportunity to connect culture with conversations about the city’s future. It also reflects a broader approach to entertainment in which social interaction, creative expression, and the exchange of ideas form part of the experience.

Reports concerning the death of Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings have sparked concern on social media, with entertainers and other public figures reacting to the development.

The Convener of the Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates (COPA), Pelumi Olajengbesi, raised concerns about the singer in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Sharing a photograph of Toluwanisings, Olajengbesi expressed distress over reports of the singer’s death and called for God’s mercy.

“My God! What a life! No, Lord! We plead for Your mercy upon Toluwanisings,” he wrote.

“I am deeply troubled by the deaths of young men and women. This is not God’s plan for us.”

Comedian Woli Agba also reacted to the reports, urging people not to give up hope as prayers continued.

“Please hold on. Please don’t conclude. We are trusting God. Please,” he wrote.

Singer Boyebest responded in the comments section, expressing faith that a positive outcome was still possible.

“Yes yes yes. Yeah, I have faith in God. I do. God you’ll do this one,” he wrote.

The reactions followed reports about the singer circulating on social media, although the circumstances surrounding the situation remained unclear at the time of reporting.

As of publication, the information provided did not establish independent confirmation of Toluwanisings’ death.

Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari has challenged the Olu of Warri and social commentator Joel Omosere Agho to address allegations surrounding ₦2.7 trillion in pipeline security payments, insisting that the controversy should focus on facts rather than personal attacks.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Alabo Daerefa-a Christopher Braide, Dokubo-Asari said questions about the reported payments, transparency and the underdevelopment of the Niger Delta deserved clear answers.

The statement said Dokubo-Asari was not defending High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, but questioning what it described as selective scrutiny of Niger Delta figures involved in pipeline security arrangements.

Agho, popularly known as Mr Common Sense, had questioned why the region remained underdeveloped despite substantial sums reportedly linked to pipeline security contracts.

Dokubo-Asari challenged Agho to explain why his criticism allegedly focused on Tompolo and Dokubo-Asari while the Olu of Warri and Osahon Idahosa were also named in claims concerning pipeline security payments.

However, the statement stressed that the figures and contractual interests attributed to the individuals must be independently verified.

It also argued that private contractors should not bear sole responsibility for the Niger Delta’s development challenges, saying elected governments and public institutions have statutory responsibilities for infrastructure and public services.

The statement acknowledged that contractors could be questioned about their earnings, contracts and contributions to host communities.

It called on all parties to provide documentary evidence to support or dispute the allegations, adding that accountability should extend to governments, development agencies and oil companies.

“The issue is not who can trade the harshest words,” the statement said, urging stakeholders to prioritise transparency and the needs of oil-producing communities.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, has cast doubt on the forward’s international future, suggesting he may not return to Portugal’s national team following his dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus.

Aveiro made the remarks when asked whether her brother would represent Portugal again, amid tensions following his departure from the national team’s training camp during the recent international break.

“It’s more likely a NO than a YES. I think they’re both hurt. The situation has stalled,” she said.

“When we’re betrayed, it’s very difficult to go back to normal.”

The controversy began after Ronaldo was left on the bench throughout Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway on September 27. The 41-year-old subsequently left the team’s camp in Copenhagen ahead of the match against Denmark.

Ronaldo later accused Jesus of breaking his word over an agreement concerning his playing time, describing the situation as a breach of trust. He also apologised to his teammates and Portuguese supporters for leaving the camp, accepting responsibility for his actions.

The Portuguese Football Federation subsequently opened disciplinary proceedings and provisionally suspended the captain while the matter was being considered.

Despite the dispute, Ronaldo has maintained that he remains available for national-team selection after serving any punishment imposed on him.

Portugal’s football federation president, Pedro Proença, has also expressed a desire to see the forward return once the situation is resolved.

Ronaldo remains Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer and most-capped player, with 146 goals in 234 appearances for his country.

Although Aveiro’s comments suggest uncertainty over his international future, no official retirement announcement has been made.

Stefanie Kim Ladewig, the eight-month pregnant partner of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, has reportedly escaped injury following a three-vehicle crash in Istanbul, Türkiye.

According to Türkiye Today, citing the Demirören News Agency (DHA), the 26-year-old model underwent precautionary medical examinations because of her pregnancy and was later discharged from the hospital in good condition.

The accident reportedly occurred at about 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday in the Mithatpaşa neighbourhood of Kemerburgaz, within Istanbul’s Eyüpsultan district.

DHA reported that Ladewig was driving an SUV when she entered a bend and collided with a light commercial vehicle driven by a person identified as Paris T. The impact reportedly caused her vehicle to lose control and collide with another SUV travelling in the opposite direction.

The crash involved two SUVs and a light commercial vehicle. All three vehicles sustained damage, but no injuries were reported.

Ladewig was taken to a private hospital in the Maslak area of Istanbul’s Sarıyer district for medical checks as a precaution because she was eight months pregnant. She was subsequently discharged after the examinations.

Born in Berlin, Germany, Ladewig works as a model and shares fashion and beauty content on social media, according to Türkiye Today.

Osimhen, 27, is a Nigerian international who plays for Turkish club Galatasaray.

Former Turkish football referee Ahmet Çakar has defended Victor Osimhen following Galatasaray’s reported 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, arguing that the striker’s recent return from injury and limited service contributed to his struggles.

Osimhen started the encounter at Rams Park and played the full 90 minutes but reportedly found it difficult to make an impact against Barcelona’s high defensive line, with several offside calls disrupting his attacking efforts.

His performance attracted criticism from some fans and pundits, prompting debate over his contribution to the match.

However, speaking on the Libero TV YouTube channel, Çakar backed the Nigerian forward, highlighting his quality while questioning the support he received from his teammates.

“Osimhen, you know, he could play for any team in the world, he’d be the top scorer in the Premier League,” Çakar said, according to Habersarikirmizi.

“I didn’t see anything like that in this match. I admit, he’s just recovered from injury, but what kind of performance did the team give him that he should play like that?”

Osimhen had reportedly enjoyed a strong start to the campaign before his injury, scoring six goals and providing two assists in four league appearances.

Following his return, the Super Eagles striker also registered an assist in Galatasaray’s 3-1 victory over Kasimpasa.

Çakar’s comments offer a different perspective on Osimhen’s performance, suggesting that his display should be considered alongside his recent fitness concerns and the service provided by his teammates.

Some football officials are reportedly unhappy with the continued increase in prize money for competitions organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) under president Patrice Motsepe, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The reported discontent centres on concerns that more money is being channelled directly to clubs and competitions, potentially reducing the financial benefits that some individuals may have enjoyed under previous arrangements.

Since assuming office, Motsepe has pursued initiatives aimed at increasing financial rewards across African football competitions and improving the benefits available to participating clubs.

However, the reported reaction suggests that the changes to CAF’s financial distribution structure may not have received universal support within football administration circles.

While higher prize money is intended to strengthen clubs and make competitions more financially rewarding, the reported concerns highlight possible resistance to changes in how football revenues are allocated.

The identities of the officials reportedly opposed to the increases, as well as the specific concerns behind their alleged dissatisfaction, have not been disclosed.
