Hon. Fred Agbedi, Chairman of the South-South Caucus in the House of Representatives, has clarified why FCT minister Nyesom Wike, and other party stalwarts were not penalized during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday.
Agbedi, representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency, highlighted that Wike is not alone in engaging in anti-party activities, as some PDP leaders openly support the incumbent government. He acknowledged that these actions are detrimental to the party’s interest but emphasized that the PDP leadership prioritizes rebuilding and stabilizing its structures over imposing sanctions at this time.
The lawmaker explained that the party is adopting a cautious approach to disciplinary measures to avoid exacerbating its internal crisis. Agbedi assured that the PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, is monitoring infractions and will address them at the appropriate time.
He expressed confidence that the party will emerge stronger, united, and better organized ahead of the 2027 general elections.
