Security concerns intensified as school closures spread following fresh bandit attacks. In Kogi, bandits attacked a school, killing the vice principal and two others, while security agencies uncovered an IPOB/ESN arms cache in Enugu.

The Senate ordered the arrest of former NNPC boss Kyari over a ₦210 trillion query, even as he denied dodging investigation. The Senate also moved to expand appellate and federal courts to address backlog concerns, while the House of Representatives is set to vote on the State Police proposal.

On governance and politics, IPAC warned that scrapping indirect primaries could undermine internal party democracy, while Dickson cautioned Obi and Kwankwaso supporters against running down the NDC. President Tinubu also linked tax compliance to infrastructure delivery in the FCT, as Uzodimma unveiled a 4 million-strong mobilisation group for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Economic and social pressures remain high. The World Bank says 52.9 million Nigerians face acute food insecurity, while retirees staged protests demanding ₦32,000 pension benefits. The Federal Government also launched a grant to boost mining exploration and research.

On the global scene, US and Iran exchanged strikes across the Middle East for a second day in a row, while North Korea and China claimed gains from Xi Jinping’s visit, though limits remain. In Europe, anti-migration violence in Belfast revived memories of the “Troubles”, and in Africa, two babies from a Congo orphanage died of Ebola, raising concern over child vulnerability.

Good morning, beautiful people.

Fides: The Weight of Trust

Not by the thunder of promises spoken,
Nor by the wreaths that men place on their brows,
Does trust descend from heaven into mortal hands.
It walks more slowly.
It comes with the dawn,
When no herald announces the labor of character.

It is forged in the common hours
In keeping the word given lightly,
In returning what could have been taken,
In remaining when departure would have been easier.

The oak does not ask the earth to believe in its strength;
Season after season,
It endures the rain, the drought, the relentless wind,
Until the hills themselves lean upon its roots.
So too with the soul.

Trust is not inherited like gold,
Nor borrowed like ceremonial robes.
It cannot be demanded by title,
Purchased by influence,
Or commanded by fear.
Even emperors must earn it.

For fides (that sacred covenant between hearts)
Keeps its own careful ledger.
It remembers the unseen choices:
The truth told when falsehood offered advantage,
The hand extended without witness,
The promise honored though it carried a cost.

To be trusted
Is to become a shelter in another's storm.
A harbor that does not vanish at high tide.
A lamp that does not negotiate with darkness.
Yet let no one despair at the weight of this calling.

Every nation is shaped by the conversations it is willing to have.

This morning on "The Path" we take a thoughtful look at the state of our nation through two crucial stories.

First: The major discussion surrounding the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT, raising big questions about merit, identity, and leadership in Nigeria’s institutions.

Next: The reality of national insecurity, and the dangerous trend of a society adjusting to things that should never be normal.

Unpack the conversation with Anni Abdulsalaam.

Today's headlines focus on security, the economy, governance, and public welfare.

Sheikh Gumi said nobody can stop him from going anywhere in Nigeria, while lawmakers urged service chiefs to resign if they cannot fix insecurity. The Federal Government also admitted that inflation and insecurity remain major challenges despite reforms.

On public welfare, the FG disclosed that unsafe food causes about 53,000 deaths and 50 million illnesses yearly. President Tinubu approved N10 billion for Ebola response and ordered the repatriation of 300 Nigerians held in Ethiopian prisons.

Economic concerns persisted as the IMF cautioned Nigeria on the proposed $5 billion Abu Dhabi swap deal. Nigeria has also resumed fuel imports amid Dangote Refinery maintenance, while cooking gas prices reportedly hit N2,000 per kilogram.

In governance, 30,000 retired police officers urged Tinubu to sign the Police Exit Bill and threatened fresh protests. The Senate Leader is also proposing a six-year single term for presidents and governors, while Tinubu warned that corrupt public officials will have no hiding place.

Good morning, beautiful people.

Some mornings are not just for greeting the day, but for pausing to reflect on what we carry through it.

The Weight We Carry

They say, “Be strong.”
So we smile through storms, laugh through heartbreak, and wear courage like a borrowed coat, even when it doesn’t fit.

Every morning, the market woman arranges her goods, not knowing if profit will come; the driver starts his engine, praying fuel prices won’t rise again.

The graduate refreshes emails, searching for opportunities in a world that keeps saying, “Try again tomorrow.”

And somehow, we call this ordinary. But is it?

Isn’t survival its own kind of miracle?

We celebrate those who climb mountains, yet forget those who wake up every day and climb themselves — the father who hides his worries behind a joke at dinner, the mother who says, “I’m fine,” while carrying the weight of everyone else.

The friend who checks on others, though nobody remembers to ask, “How are you?”

Life has a funny way of measuring success. It teaches us to count houses, cars, titles, and applause.

But what about kindness? What about integrity when nobody is watching? What about the courage to begin again after life has knocked you down for the tenth time?

Tell me, when the noise fades, when the crowd disappears, when the cameras are turned off, what remains?

Because one day, the world will not ask how famous you were. It will ask:
“Did you leave people better than you met them?”
“Did your presence bring light or shadow?”
“Did you spend your years chasing things or building meaning?”

And perhaps the greatest tragedy is not failing; it is reaching the end of the road only to discover you spent your whole life running toward the wrong destination.

So today, pause for a moment — not to count what you’ve earned, but to count what you’ve become. For a tree is not remembered by how tall it stood, but by the fruit it left behind.

And in the end, that fruit — not your wealth, not your status, not your excuses — will tell the story of your life.

FIFA intends to do nothing as Somali referee Omar Artan is denied US entry and will miss his World Cup debut.

Are FIFA right to stay silent or challenge the host nation over the exclusion?

That’s the big question today on Sport Lab , and we want you in the conversation!

Security remains a major concern as the NLC and TUC threatened a nationwide strike over worsening insecurity. President Tinubu said the fight against terror is a national duty and not just the responsibility of the military, while the Defence Minister maintained that education is key to countering terrorism.

The Senate is expected to consider the state police bill this week as calls for stronger security measures continue. Meanwhile, stakeholders in Borno appealed to terrorists to release abducted pupils, insisting that the children are not politicians and should not be held captive.

Political discussions ahead of 2027 also continued, with Senator Ndume describing the next election as a potential "WWE-style fight", while Peter Obi urged Nigerians to stop branding entire tribes with criminality.

Elsewhere, a lawyer warned that the push for Nnamdi Kanu to face the death penalty could affect Nigeria-UK relations, while the Federal Government said it is considering retaliatory measures against South Africa over xenophobic attacks.

Good morning, beautiful people.

Life does not always demand perfection; sometimes, it simply asks for courage.

The Heart of Courage

Bravery is not the absence of fear; it is standing tall while fear stands near. It is taking one more step when the road grows dark and protecting your hope when doubt leaves its mark.

The brave are not always those who win; sometimes they are souls fighting battles within. From the mother who keeps going when her strength runs low, to the dreamer who falls yet rises again to grow.

No be who never fear be hero; na who face fear and still move forward. So when life tests you with storms and pain, and every effort seems to be in vain, remember that courage is not found in never falling down, but in rising again without surrendering your crown.

For every great victory begins with a brave heart that chooses to continue, even when it is hard.
