RIVERS STATE: STUDENT SHOT DEAD DURING CULT CLASH ON CAMPUS

A first-year student of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, has reportedly been shot by suspected gang members on the university campus.

The incident occurred today, Wednesday, barely 48 hours after a reported clash between two rival gang groups at the institution on Monday. A viral video circulating online shows the injured student lying on a hospital bed and, in another scene, being carried by his coursemates on the university campus. A source close to the victim told our correspondent that the student was rushed to a hospital, where doctors are making efforts to remove bullet pellets lodged in his body.

The source also said the victim's friends had to contribute money to raise funds for the surgery. However, it could not be independently verified whether the student was a member of any cult group. Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command says it will get back to our correspondent on the matter.

Meanwhile, the management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education has suspended all remaining activities for the Students’ Union Government Week with immediate effect. The suspension comes after a viral video showing students running in different directions, amid sounds of gunshots. In a statement signed by the university Registrar, Dr Chinonye Abraham Ajie, students were directed to return to their classes on Thursday, August 13, for normal academic activities.

The management warned that students who fail to attend lectures will be held responsible for their actions. It also advised students to avoid any activities that could disrupt their studies or threaten peace and order on the university campus.

POLICE INVITE SENATOR FADAHUNSI OVER VIRAL VIDEO CALLING FOR KILLING OF ACCORD MEMBERS

So after all the controversy, Senator Francis Fadahunsi was finally invited by the Osun State Police Command over his viral “kill Accord” remark ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

He reportedly spent over two hours being questioned by the police before he was released.

Fadahunsi has since maintained that he was not calling for physical violence, claiming that by “k!ll Accord,” he meant APC supporters should defeat Accord with their votes.

At least the police invitation sends an important message. Politicians need to understand that words matter, especially a few days before a major election.

Election should be ballot vs ballot, not violence vs violence.

RIVERS STATE: ADC GUBER CANDIDATE PIDOMSON MEET WOMEN LEADERS ACROSS THE STATE

The Rivers State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, on Wednesday met with ADC women leaders from the 23 local government areas of the state, as well as leaders of pro-ADC support groups and special indigenes.

The meeting, led by the ADC State Women Leader, Engr. Mrs. Irene Jumbo, focused on strengthening unity and harmonising interests ahead of the party’s campaign.

Pidomson urged the women to remain united and prayerful, warning against what he described as the “altars of darkness” working against the wishes of Rivers people.

He also charged them to take the ADC message beyond party structures by mobilising women in their various communities once the campaign officially begins.

Among those who attended were Dr. Mrs. Joeba West, Hon. Mrs. Nancy Stephens Ijaopo and Hon. Mrs. Beatrice Dappa.

The engagement is part of the ADC’s ongoing stakeholders’ consultations ahead of the governorship elections.

OSUN ELECTION: POLICE TAKE ACTION AS APC SENATOR THREATENED TO KILL ACCORD MEMBER

Osun State Police Command summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi after a video showed him threatening to kill Accord Party members in Ilesa

Governor Ademola Adeleke demanded Fadahunsi's arrest, saying the senator's words could trigger mass killings ahead of the governorship poll

A second APC figure, Francis Eniade, also faced backlash after warning Accord members not to come out to vote in Odo Otin on election day

The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East in the Senate, following a video in which he appeared to threaten members of the Accord Party days before Saturday's governorship election in the state.

Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said the summons was issued by Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo, who is overseeing the election.

As reported, Ojelabi confirmed the development to journalists on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

"I can confirm that he has been summoned by the CP. We will make a statement available regarding it."

16 KIDNAP VICTIMS RESCUED IN KOGI

Sixteen persons abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State have been rescued by a Nigerian Army-led joint security operation.

The victims, comprising six men, six women and four children, were kidnapped on Sunday, August 9, when armed criminals attacked commuters along the Ojuwo–Ajengo–Memarebo and Ojiwo–Itobe roads in Ofu Local Government Area.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops of the Nigerian Army, alongside the Nigerian Navy, Police, local vigilantes and hunters, launched a search operation after the victims were reportedly moved towards Adumu Community in Dekina LGA.

The security team engaged the fleeing kidnappers in a firefight, forcing them to abandon all 16 victims and escape into the forest.

The rescued victims are undergoing medical assessment and documentation ahead of reunification with their families.

One local hunter was killed during the operation**, while a police officer sustained injuries and is receiving treatment.

The Nigerian Army says the successful rescue underscores the importance of joint security operations and timely intelligence in the fight against kidnapping.
