Outrage in Owerri as 22-Year-Old Allegedly Beaten to De@th Over Power Bank Later Found — Family Demands Justice

A heartbreaking incident in Owuelu, Uratta community of Owerri North LGA, Imo State, has sparked public outrage after a 22-year-old man from Umudula Orji was beaten to de8th by a group of youths over a missing power bank—only for the item to be found after his de8th. The victim, reportedly the only son of his parents, now lies lifeless in a mortuary, while his grieving family calls for urgent justice.

Eyewitness accounts allege that the young man was rounded up by local youths after being accused of stealing the power bank. Without any investigation or confirmation, he was dragged into the open, tied up, and flogged for hours in a brutal mob-style punishment that led to his de@th on the spot.

The tragic twist came when the supposedly stolen power bank was discovered—intact and unrelated to the deceased. According to local sources, the item had been misplaced and was later recovered after the fatal assault, confirming the young man’s innocence.

body has been deposited at a nearby mortuary as his parents continue to call on the Imo State Police Command, human rights organizations, and government authorities to intervene. “He was our only son. He did nothing wrong. He was mur*dered,” the father cried out in a viral video making the rounds on social media.

As news of the incident spreads, is gaining traction on Twitter, Threads, and Facebook, with Nigerians demanding a full-scale investigation and arrests of those involved. Human rights activists and legal voices have described the case as a cold-blooded lynching and are calling for swift prosecution of all suspects.

This brutal k!lling adds to the growing list of mob justice cases across Nigeria, where unchecked rage and misinformation continue to take innocent lives. As calls for justice grow louder, this case could become a rallying point for stronger enforcement of laws against extrajudicial punishment and community-based violence.

There are wounds that never heal, there are also tears that never dry, don't hurt people believing that "to err is human to forgive is divine" you're correct. But to me "to err is human but to forgive depends on wetin you do.

I don't easily write people off but once you cross the red line that's it, I can forgive but I don't forget.

Mind you, I don't revenge, I keep my distance.

Trust is like a glass, once broken no matter how hard you try to amend it it can never remain the same.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has a new acting chairman in the person of Mr Sam Olumekun.

Olumekun, who until recently was INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, was referred to as acting INEC Chairman at a meeting he held with the Labour Party leadership on Wednesday.

The new acting chairman met with a delegation of the Labour Party, led by Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti, who visited INEC headquarters in Abuja.

This development comes amidst controversy regarding the status of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the commission’s chairman.

Two days ago, reports claimed that President Bola Tinubu had sacked Yakubu and replaced him with Professor Bashiru Olamilekan.

However, the presidency debunked the reports. The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Digital and New Media, O’tega Ogra, urged the public to disregard the reports as “fake news”.

Ogra noted that such an announcement would come through official channels such as the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Amid reports of his sacking, Professor Yakubu presided over INEC’s weekly meeting at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

The meeting included several national commissioners, including Olumekun.

“Crucial decisions would be taken at the meeting,” INEC had said in a tweet.

The chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa has reacted after social media influencer, VeryDarkMan gave her a week ultimatum to return some Nigerian girls who were allegedly trafficked to Ivory Coast.

In the post that VeryDarkMan shared on his official X handle, he said ever since he saw the girls in Ivory Coast, his life has become something else.

Here is what VeryDarkMan wrote on his official page;

"Since I left Ivory Coast, my life has become something else. I hear cries in my sleep. I haven’t been able to sleep properly. I am depressed, my world has changed. All I can say is this, Abike Dabiri, I give you 1 week to bring back these girls".

However, Abike Dabiri has now reacted to the statement that was made by the social media influencer. She reacted after an X user said VeryDarkMan should have tagged the right officials rather than tagging her.

Reacting, the NIDCOM chairman stated that it's a sign that she's efficient.

Here is what Abike Dabiri wrote on her page;

"I guess it's a sign of efficiency as a mother. I have reacted several times to save several souls but trafficking is not my core mandate".

I caught lots of people’s wives with big men, governors – Ali Baba

Veteran Nigerian comedian, Ali Baba, has revealed that he has caught numerous wives of his friends and associates engaging in extramarital affairs with governors and wealthy politicians.

He made this revelation during an appearance on the Outside the Box podcast.

Speaking candidly about the unsavoury activities prevalent among the nation’s elite, the comedian recounted a particular encounter in which he saw the wife of an associate at the residence of a state governor.

He said: “I have been in the houses of a lot of big men—like governors and the rest—and I see wives of a lot of people that I know doing things, and I greet, ‘How are you? How is everything?’

“And then those guys would do their philandering, tap her bum and say, ‘Go back inside, I’m not finished with you,’ and she went back inside. Then I ran into her at an event, and her husband said, ‘Oh, how are you? Meet my wife.’ I responded, ‘Oh madam, it’s a pleasure. I haven’t seen you in five years. Where have you been?’ And she’s like, ‘I’ve been around, good to see you.’

“When she sees me somewhere after, she calls me and says, ‘Ali, thanks,’ I say, ‘It’s okay.’”

Anambra guber: Ukachukwu emerges APC candidate, floors Valentine Ozigbo

Nicholas Ukachukwu on Saturday emerged as the Anambra governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ukachukwu clinched the party’s ticket ahead of the November poll flooring Valentine Ozigbo who had just defected from the Labour Party.

At the party’s primary election, Ukachukwu garnered 1,455 votes while Ozigbo polled a total of 67 votes.

Reacting to his victory, Ukachukwu said he is prepared to clinch the Anambra governorship seat for the party.

His words, “We shall deliver Anambra to the APC. One thing I want to say here, nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before.

“I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father, no more godfather,” the APC’s Anambra governorship candidate said.

It is easier for family and friends to raise money for burial, but too difficult to raise money to save life or establish someone.

I read an article where a young man lost his wife because he could not afford 500k for hospital bill and she died, I read another article where the same man said he and his family have spent close to the same 500k at the mortuary to remove the baby from the womb and all that.

Perhaps he reached out to individuals for assistance but you know our culture their will always be a 101% reasons why the help can not be rendered, but the same people will go out of their ways this time to make sure they give her a befitting burial.

If you have not been in distress you won't understand the human nature.

Police spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, has confirmed the arrest of Hadaina Hussaini, a man accused of inciting reprisal attacks on southerners following the recent killings of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State.

The incident, which stirred ethnic tension and drew widespread condemnation, prompted swift intervention from the Kaduna State Police Command to avert potential violence.

According to the police, Hussaini had circulated messages on social media threatening retaliation against southerners residing in the North. His actions raised concerns over public safety and national cohesion, prompting security agencies to launch a manhunt which led to his eventual arrest.

In a report contrary to social media claims, Hussaini is not a serving police officer. He was formerly part of the Police Special Constabulary, a voluntary arm of the Nigeria Police Force, but was dismissed from the outfit two years ago due to what the police described as “questionable character.”

The police further explained that images of Hussaini in uniform, which recently resurfaced online, were posted years ago and do not reflect his current status. His identification tag and uniform markings clearly indicate his former affiliation with the Special Constabulary, not the regular police force.

Hassan said: “The suspect has been arrested and will be charged to court upon the completion of preliminary investigations in accordance to (sic) extant laws."

“It is pertinent to note that his picture captured in police uniform as displayed on Social Media, which is an improper dressing, is that of him when he was a member of the Police Special Constabulary attached to Kaduna State Constabulary Office, but was dismissed from the voluntary outfit two (2) years ago due to his questionable character.
