FESTIVE GIVING WITH PURPOSE: DUMO LULU-BRIGGS UPHOLDS LEGACY OF CARE, HONOUR AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
Every festive season, the pull of home goes beyond custom for Chief (Dr.) Dumo Lulu-Briggs. It is a call rooted in conviction, shaped by a childhood spent in the village and refined by values of discipline, community, and shared responsibility.
According to the Paramount Head, those early foundations instilled enduring principles of honour, care, responsibility, and values he says time has only clarified, not erased. Today, as a traditional leader, he maintains that leadership is not defined by titles or distance from one’s roots, but by a continuous commitment to model what truly matters in visible and impactful ways.
It is within this context that the annual festive activities organised under his leadership have evolved beyond mere celebration. Each programme is intentionally designed to recognise dignity, support the vulnerable, and inspire the next generation, particularly the youth, reminding them that their circumstances do not determine their limits.
This year’s engagements began with the annual Elderly Care, an initiative organised in remembrance of his late father, High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs. Acknowledging elders as custodians of history and culture, the programme ensured they were honoured with food items, beverages, and cash gifts to sustain them through the festive season and into the New Year.
A major highlight of the celebration was the annual Children’s Party, described by Chief Lulu-Briggs as a platform not just for merriment, but for talent discovery, excellence recognition, and the awakening of possibilities in young minds. Children and youths showcased exceptional abilities across singing, rap, dancing, quiz competitions, and poem rendition.
One particularly emotional moment occurred when a young girl, Ms. Ibingo, who had received a secondary school scholarship in 2025, presented the Paramount Head with symbolic gifts including a Bible, hymn book, pen, and diary. Deeply moved by the gesture, he announced the upgrade of her scholarship to an unlimited one, covering her education to any level she chooses to pursue.
Outstanding performances were generously rewarded. A 19-year-old participant whose freestyle singing performance stood out received a ₦1,000,000 cash prize, a recording deal, and food items. A young rapper was also recognised with a tablet, a ₦100,000 cash gift, and food support.
In the dance category, Emmanuella, an Abonnema resident from Cross River State, emerged winner, earning ₦100,000, a scholarship, and food items. Winners in poem rendition each received ₦100,000, tablets, and food items.
The quiz competition, which tested Bible knowledge, current affairs, and general knowledge, produced an outstanding female winner who was awarded a ₦100,000 cash prize, a scholarship, a tablet, and food items.
Speaking on the significance of the gestures, Chief Lulu-Briggs emphasised that they go beyond philanthropy. He described them as deliberate signals to young people that excellence is noticed, intelligence is rewarded, and dreams are valid.
As the New Year unfolds, he reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing minds, preserving dignity, and helping to shape a future where the people can truly thrive.
Fresh Start Television reports that the initiative once again reinforced a leadership style grounded in service, legacy, and purposeful impact.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
