BREAKING NEWS:

High Court Strikes Out Suit Challenging Lokpobiri-Led IYC Leadership

There is celebration on within the Ijaw Youth Council, as the High Court of Rivers State has officially struck out a leadership challenge brought against the current Jonathan-led Executives of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide.

The High Court of Rivers State struck out Suit No. PHC/2318/CS/2023 filed by Dr. Tari Alaye Theophilus and 10 others against Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr and 10 others. The suit sought to declare the claimants as the legitimate Executive Council of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and to restrain the Lokpobiri-led leadership from functioning in that capacity.

However, counsel to the defendants, Ebilade Obiri, Esq., filed a preliminary objection, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter. He pointed out that the disputed IYC election took place in Bayelsa State, not Rivers State, and therefore fell outside the territorial jurisdiction of the court. He also noted that the claimants failed to state any venue for their supposed election, while the defendants provided documentary evidence that the election was held at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

In addition, Mr. Obiri highlighted in his submissions that none of the four Eastern Zone officers listed among the claimants reside in Rivers State. The court, in its ruling, agreed with the argument and found that the claimants’ Statement of Claim did not establish a valid basis for the Rivers State High Court to assume jurisdiction over the dispute.

The case was accordingly struck out, and there was no order as to costs. The ruling is a major legal victory for the Jonathan Lokpobiri-led Executive, putting to rest the ongoing leadership tussle within the Ijaw Youth Council and reaffirming their legitimacy.

Press Release.

RECENT DEFECTION SPREE:
IGBETA CALLS ON BAYELSA YOUTHS TO REMAIN CONFIDENT AND STEADFAST WITH GOV.DOUYE DIRI AND THE PDP.

…Admonish them never to be pushed by their alleged Leaders into having personal issues with fellow Youths in the guise of Political differences.

A former Legal Adviser of the Ijaw Youths Council Barr.Ayebakuro Igbeta has called on the youth fold of the People's Democratic Party in Bayelsa State to remain calm and steadfast with the party amidst the stories of defection of serving governors and ranking members of the party in other states with the latest confirmed to be the Delta State Governor Mr. Sheriff.

Igbeta who recently bagged a doctorate in Law from the Rivers State University advised youths of Bayelsa not to be dismayed by the spree of defection from the People's Democratic Party, because understandably within the context of black African politics the laws of the land allows for this back and forth movement of members of political parties which is informed basically by their perceived interests rather than by belief or a set objectives.

The former Chief Law officer of the IYC and current Secretary General of the Bayelsa State Centre for Youths Development took the opportunity of his round table discus on personal opinion on recent happenings in the polity, to admonish the youth fold of Bayelsa PDP to rather learn from the attitude of political leaders and actors and bring themselves to the understanding that the course of leaders is not something worth creating enemies with fellow youths. "it is sad that even at this age youths would go as far as insulting and creating enemies for the same leaders whose real political ambitions the youths may never be aware of and whose trajectory remain unclear. These leader can move forth and back as may be dictated by the times and personal permutations thus, we the youths must be careful how we demonstrate our loyalty no matter how true it is" Igbeta is quoted in part.

The Secretary General of the famous Prosperity Youths Coalition leveraged on the discuss with newsmen to prepare the mind of PDP youth in Bayelsa that their own leaders in the state are most certainly not immune from the defection fever that is becoming endemic, therefore youths must place confidence in themselves as those we hold in high esteem might just drop that defection bomb, expressing that the defection possibilities looms in abundance around and even he igbeta too may fall prey if the political dynamics determines so, but at this very critical time the party looks on the faithfulness of Bayelsans to survive its trying times as the state has proved time and again to be an unshakable fortress of the PDP.
