RESIDENTS OF EWIO, OTUABULA2 AND OTUABULA1 CRY OUT OVER ABANDONED ROAD IN OGBIA LGA.

Residents of Ewio, Otuabula II and Otuabula I communities in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have made a passionate appeal to the Governor of the state, Douye Diri, and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to urgently intervene in the construction of their major access road that was abandoned under construction.

According to the communities, the road, which serves as a vital link for movement, trade, education, and healthcare, has been abandoned for nearly two decades despite repeated appeals to relevant authorities. They lamented that the deplorable state of the road has continued to hinder socio-economic development, increase transportation costs, and expose residents to untold hardship, especially during the rainy season.

Community leaders and youths described the situation as a long-standing injustice, stressing that the neglect has cut them off from neighboring communities and essential services. They appealed to the state government and the NDDC to consider the road project as a matter of urgency, noting that its completion would greatly improve living conditions and boost economic activities in the area.

The people of Ewio, Otuabula2 and Otuabula1 expressed hope that their collective cry would attract swift intervention, calling on the authorities to demonstrate commitment to rural development and inclusive governance in Ogbia Local Government Area.

PROPOSED TANTITA PROBE: WHY THE PRESIDENCY AND THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MUST TREAD WITH CAUTION IN OTHER TO MAINTAIN THE PEACE IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION.

~DR. IGBETA Ayebakuro Esq.

~Cites improved oil output, Peace and increasing national revenue.

Public affairs commentator and former Legal Adviser of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta, PhD, has called on the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to ensure the forthright termination of the ongoing plans by the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources to probe activities of the Tantita Security outfit.

Describing the planned investigative action as ill conceived and politically motivated, Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta stated in a press statement issued in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital, advised the Presidency to rather work out modalities for strengthening the ongoing efforts by the Government Ekpomupolo (aka Tompolo) led outfit to make it more robust and all inclusive. He (Igbeta) admonished the Federal Government not to be swayed by the opinion of a few, but be guided in its actions by the achievements of the Tantita Security initiative which has seen the Nigeria Petroleum output gallop from a meagre 1.2M Bpd to an impressive over 2M Bpd thanks to the effectiveness and efficiency of Tompolo and his crew.

"I think It is devilish for anyone with an understanding of the ante of the Nigerian oil/gas industry and the volatile nature of the Niger Delta, particularly as it concerns the security and safety of critical Petroleum assets in the region, to undermine or question the massive success of the Tantita Security initiative, which is not only wide spread across all the nooks & crannies of the Region, but also brings intended results including a guaranteed safety of national assets and more than double national daily production"

Speaking further Barr. Igbeta called on the Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio and the leadership of the various concerned House Committees to eschew the proposed Tantita probe as it is more or less a time bomb clicking towards detonation, as a vast majority of Niger Deltans consider the move as a covert ploy to undermine the region by reassigning the security contract to political friends outside of the Niger Delta. Warning that the move is potentially dangerous in its form, the former Legal Adviser of the IYC reminded that the Tantita as currently structured torches on almost a third of immediate households in the Niger Delta and allows the people feel involved in the industry that is no doubt the mainstay of the national economy and which no doubt is their legitimate and moral right, thus any efforts to deprive them that crucial participation under any guise will be met with stiff resistance including another round of vandalism that will most definitely take the government more time and resources to address, it is therefore better according to Igbeta not to throw away the baby with bath water, but engineer internal modifications that allow greater stakeholder participation through more funding of the outfit and or any other perceived shortcoming of the outfit.

"We need not go back to the days of kidnapping of expatriates and vandalization of critical infrastructure, just because someone somewhere wants a greater share of participation or wants everything to himself, we all including the National Assembly know the accusations upon which the planned probe is based are not only spurious but also selfishly motivated, the Federal Government must resist the temptation of destroying a working initiative because they don't like the faces of those driving the process. We in the street can assure the government that if this job is terminated, taken or redesigned to remove the present actors, those calling for probe and reassignment do not have the skill, and connect to deliver the job as effectively as it has presently been delivered by the High Chief Tompolo led Tantita Security Services. I do not have a stake neither do I benefit from the Tantita system, but I hold it as a duty to my country and as a student of history to also remind those in power or put the government in the right perspective(as it were) when its policy trajectory is headed to a certain failure." Igbeta continued.

The popular Bayelsa youth leader enjoined all Governors of the Niger Delta to put a thumbs down on the National Assembly probe, as over the years with the advent of the Tantita Initiative, production has not only improved significantly, but national revenue has more than doubled leading to greater allocations to the states igniting the rapid infrastructural and economic development across board, citing the recent announcement by the Federal Ministry of Finance that Nigeria's Foreign Reserve hits an almost 15years high of over $43Billion is a massive pointer to the tremendous successes of Tompolo and his boys, thus the government must resist the call to pour oil where water is needed.

IGBETA COMMENDS GOVERNOR DIRI FOR NOMINATING DR. PETER AKPE AS BAYELSA DEPUTY GOVERNOR

Public affairs commentator and former Legal Adviser of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta, has praised Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State for nominating Dr. Pastor Peter Akpe as Deputy Governor. Igbeta described the decision as a demonstration of responsible leadership and commitment to the state’s core interests. The commendation was contained in a press release issued on February 24, 2026.

Igbeta said Governor Diri has consistently shown the ability to make sound political decisions in the interest of Bayelsa people. He noted that the latest nomination further reflects the governor’s determination to prioritize merit over political considerations. According to him, the decision has reaffirmed confidence in the governor’s leadership style.

The former IYC Legal Adviser recalled his earlier appeals to Bayelsans to allow the governor full discretion in selecting a successor to the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. He emphasized that the process should not be subjected to political pressure or bargaining. He maintained that the governor deserved the necessary political space to make the right choice.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who recently passed away, was described by Igbeta as a dedicated and loyal public servant. He said the late deputy governor raised the standard of the office through commitment and diligence. Igbeta added that filling the vacant position requires someone with proven competence and capacity.

He stressed that the office of Deputy Governor should not be treated as a political compensation platform. According to him, the responsibilities attached to the role demand maturity, loyalty, and administrative experience. He warned against reducing the office to a tool for political balancing.

Reflecting on his years of working with the late Ewhrudjakpo, Igbeta said he gained firsthand understanding of the demands of the office. He noted that the role transcends political affiliations and requires a high level of discipline and dedication. He insisted that only a qualified and capable individual should occupy the position.

Igbeta expressed gratitude over the nomination of Dr. Pastor Peter Akpe. He described Akpe as a seasoned administrator and a modern-day politician with substantial governance experience. He said Akpe’s record in public service distinguishes him among his peers.

According to the statement, Akpe has served in several capacities and demonstrated competence in administration. Igbeta also highlighted Akpe’s pastoral background, describing him as a humble leader who shows empathy in complex situations. He added that these qualities are necessary for the office of Deputy Governor.

The former IYC Legal Adviser commended Governor Diri for remaining focused despite political distractions. He said the governor refused to yield to external pressures and instead settled for what he termed one of the best choices among qualified candidates. He described the nomination as evidence that the governor listens to constructive counsel.

Igbeta further explained that the Deputy Governor’s office plays a critical administrative role in government operations. He said the office handles numerous daily activities, complaints, and requests from the public. According to him, this function ensures that only critical matters reach the governor’s desk.

He stated that the filtering role of the Deputy Governor allows the governor to concentrate on strategic governance matters. Such matters, he noted, include attracting investors and consolidating development efforts in the state. He emphasized that the responsibilities require resilience and the ability to work long hours.

Igbeta congratulated Governor Diri for what he called another correct decision. He admitted that he had initially feared the possibility of political compromise in filling the vacancy. However, he said the nomination of Akpe has dispelled such concerns.

He also congratulated Dr. Akpe on his nomination and expressed confidence in his ability to succeed. Igbeta said many Bayelsans share the belief that Akpe will continue from where the late Ewhrudjakpo stopped. He expressed optimism that the new deputy governor would deliver on the expectations of the office.

The statement concluded with assurances of support for both the governor and the deputy governor-designate. Igbeta reiterated that merit and service should remain the guiding principles in governance. He affirmed that the decision represents continuity and stability in Bayelsa State’s leadership.
