Thousands of Rivers Women Rally in Support of Governor Fubara, Reject Emergency Rule Threats
In a bold demonstration of unity and civic resolve, thousands of women from across Rivers State took to the streets of Port Harcourt to show unwavering support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The march also served as a firm rejection of any attempt to impose an emergency rule on the state.
Clad in traditional wrappers and black tops, the women carried placards bearing messages like “Bring Back Our Governor,” “Rivers Women Now Live in Fear,” and “We Reject Emergency Rule.”
The peaceful protest moved through key roads and culminated at the Rivers State Secretariat Complex, featuring passionate chants, speeches, and symbolic sit-ins.
The women described the situation as a political invasion masked in military tactics, urging leaders not to plunge the state into chaos.
“Rivers has been peaceful, yet there's talk of emergency rule. Meanwhile, states battling terrorism like Zamfara, Borno, and Plateau continue without such threats. Where is the justice?” one protester asked.
They dismissed the justification for Governor Fubara’s removal, calling it a deliberate political ambush. “There is no violence here, no insurgency — just democracy under siege,” another speaker noted.
With determination, the women vowed to sustain their protest until their voices are heard and democracy is upheld.
