Losing the right way,… 🥸🥸🥸

“You start growing when the money you lose tastes better than the money you gain”. 😳😳😳~unknown~

There was a place I read in the holy book that changed my life and reinstated my faith and integrity towards others. In 1 Peter 4:15 which says that: “believers should not suffer for committing sins like murder, theft, or being a wrongdoer”. Instead, suffering for Christians should be for "doing good" and not for being a criminal or a "meddler" in other people's affairs.

Now back to our topic on loosing the right way(suffering)., E.g if you must loose a contract let it not be because of the wrong things you did (like, falsification, exaggeration, hidden charges, unclear terms, breach of contract or stealing), rather let it be for your transparency and sincerity (Your bill being high because of the quality you want to introduce or not allowing anyone to inflate or influence the project which will affect the client financially).

We lose contracts daily in OJM Electrical Company, as a matter of fact, the contracts we have lost are 20% greater than the ones we’ve won, simply because of our modus-operandi, standards and quality. So whenever we lose a contract we don’t grieve cos we’re consoled by the acknowledgment that if we’re toying this lane (Modus operandi), not everyone will be able to afford us.

We had an interesting scenario that played out the last six months; when we lost a twin hotel project contract due to our standards and pricing, so many of my team thought it was a failure, but I counted it as gain. Fast forward to today, we have been called back to site because the person that charged cheaper couldn’t deliver.

So what’s the take home? “Know the cost of your decisions and be ready to pay the price with joy”. Because you start growing when; "what you lose tastes better than what you gain”.

Being competent is not expensive.. 🤔🤔🤔

Till date i still wonder why people intentionally don’t want to be competent, like you know this is what you want to be known for; not only that, you also charge to be paid for, but deep down know you know you’re not knowledgeable about your claim, let alone delivering on your promise.

What’s competency?

“Competency is a skill or ability, especially one required to perform a particular job or role”. (Google)

As i still ponder the reason why; I decided to do research on the reason why people are not masters of their craft; below are some of the things I found out:

1. Learning from a less competent person.
2. Unfinished learning duration
3. Lack of passion for their skill
4. Lack of improvement or up-skilling
5. Lack of accepting correction

I was amazed by these findings, because all the causative factors stressed above are not difficult, or too complex to do.

As someone that has trained over 200 electrical aspirants and artisans, these were glaring issues we faced to make a newbie, an electrical expert, most of them learnt halfway and left to start their own, and that's how we have a high increase of quacks in the system. Sadly; a customer will confidently compare the price of a professional, with someone in this category.

Why is being competent cheaper?

If you look at the damages it causes on reputation, properties, life, environment, etc. you'll agree with me that being competent is a lot cheaper and cost effective.

What's the solution?

Incompetency has ravaged every industry you can think of; name it, from mechanic, electrical, construction, plumbing, education, healthcare, hospitality, transportation etc. and if we must stop this, we only need to do two things,

1. Knowing the best.
2. Less patronage to the quacks.

If you don't know a counterfeit, you'll assume it's the original, so it's imperative we seek professional advice before embarking on any project we're less knowledgeable about to forestall possible consequences. Also when we don't patronise the quacks, we encourage them to go and improve on themselves.

Remember, "cheapest is the costliest; and costliest is the cheapest".

“Principles make miracles irrelevant”

There was an event that happened 36 months ago that stunned me; that was during the commissioning of one of our power stations here in Nigeria. As the switch is about to be flipped, i watched in dismay as my colleagues were praying to Allah, for nothing to go wrong, some of them even closed their eyes helplessly and hope it turned out good. Luckily as the switch flipped, and nothing was wrong they all clapped, danced and thanked Allah.

I know you’re now wondering how their actions are wrong; now tell me how I will cringe, and pray for something I’m 100% confident and certified that it’ll work. Who prays to fly a plane?, nobody, their prayers is their checklist, competency and backup.

You can’t be seeking for miracle if you believe you’ve done the right thing. Those who miracles happen do not even expect it. It’s only mental and physical laziness, including ignorance that makes us relinquish our responsibility to a supernatural force to come to our rescue. ( Ref: Mat: 16:4).

Wait; before you misjudged this article. My disposition doesn’t insinuate that miracles don’t happen, what it’s trying to clarify is that miracles are the last line of defense or outcome. It manifests when you’ve run out of options or exhausted it. It’s not faith, it’s not hope (That’s why no clergy can bring out 10 blind people and heal them at once; 🤔 if in doubt let the clergy man work into the school of the blind and start healing from there). (Unless it’s arranged).

Miracles are what we call luck or divine intervention, 😳, yes! And there’s a way to increase your chances of becoming lucky or miracle, which is; obeying the principles that guarantees that, such as:

1. Consistency (showing up, outperforming others, grit)
2. Mindset (will, gut, perspective, affirmations, etc)
3. Vision (mental picture, imagination, goal setting)
4. Purpose ( Strong ‘Why’ or reason, outcome, etc)
5. Timing (time management, seasons, possibility)
6. Determination (Focus, habits, character,execution)
7. Sowing (innovation, value, investment, development).

To mention but a few. I’m a living witness of miracles being real to me, and when i trace back on how they happened, I saw what I did that increased my chances of experiencing those miracles.

Just imagine that blind Bartimaeus didn’t shout, just imagine Zacchaeus not climbing the tree, just imagine those friends not breaking the ceiling where Jesus was, just imagine the centurion not having faith, just imagine the woman with the issue of blood not stretching through the crowd, just imagine peter not taking a step, just imagine you not persevering. 😁😁😁

You see; you’re the one holding your miracle, once you obey those principles above, “The miracles you’re expecting will be irrelevant”. (Don’t expect miracles, just do what you’re supposed to do, and the other ones will be taken care of).

Lastly; don’t always have the expectations that things will work out the way you planned it, that’s what makes you think miracles don’t exist, (due to over reliance), spread your options, be optimistic, be positive, be prepared, be intentional.
