56 days after their abduction in Oyo State Nigerian Presidency announced the successful rescue of 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers who had been held captive.

According to a statement released on Friday, July 10, 2026, the victims regained their freedom during an intelligence-led military operation carried out by the Nigerian Armed Forces. The operation reportedly led to the arrest of several suspects, while other members of the criminal group were neutralised.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended the military and security agencies for the successful operation, describing it as a major breakthrough in the country's fight against kidnapping and insecurity. He also expressed relief that the prolonged ordeal of the victims had come to an end.

The Nigerian Army said the rescue followed weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated operations targeting the kidnappers' hideouts.

The successful operation has been welcomed by many Nigerians, who continue to call for sustained efforts to improve security and ensure the safety of schools and communities across the country.

2026 Budget Presentation Signals Renewed Cooperation Between Rivers Executive and Legislature

PORT HARCOURT — Governor Siminalayi Fubara's presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Rivers State House of Assembly has been widely viewed as more than a constitutional exercise. It also reflects a growing atmosphere of mutual respect between the executive and legislative arms of government.

The proposed 2026 budget, valued at ₦1.854 trillion and tagged the "Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development," outlines the state's development priorities across infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and other critical sectors.

Beyond the budget figures, observers note that the Governor's appearance before the House underscores the importance of institutional collaboration in a democratic system. The executive is responsible for formulating policies and implementing development programmes, while the legislature provides oversight, debate, and representation of the people's interests. When both arms work in harmony, governance is strengthened and public confidence is enhanced.

For many Rivers residents, the event represents another opportunity to place governance above political differences. Effective cooperation between government institutions creates an environment where policies can be considered on their merits and development projects can move forward with greater certainty.

As Rivers State continues to pursue economic growth and improved public services, citizens will be looking to both the executive and the legislature to maintain constructive engagement, uphold their constitutional responsibilities, and prioritise the welfare of the people.

The 2026 budget process will now proceed through legislative consideration, where lawmakers will review the proposal before its eventual passage and implementation.

For Rivers people, the expectation remains clear: a government united by respect for democratic institutions and committed to delivering meaningful development across every community in the state.

TG Eferebo Advocates Community Dialogue as a Path to Development in Rivers State

Community advocate and respected youth TG Eferebo has reiterated the importance of dialogue as a foundation for sustainable development, stressing that meaningful conversations can inspire positive change across Rivers State.

According to Tamunotonye Eferebo, every thriving society is built on open communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to solving community challenges. He believes that when citizens actively participate in discussions about their future, they become partners in development rather than mere observers.

This philosophy has been reflected in initiatives such as the Outdoor Talk & Drums Experience, a community engagement platform created by TG Eferebo. The event brings together residents, traditional leaders, professionals, and young people to discuss issues affecting their communities while promoting unity, cultural heritage, and civic responsibility.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Eferebo noted that progress also depends on citizens who are willing to exchange ideas, collaborate, encourage one another, and work collectively toward lasting solutions.

The Outdoor Talk & Drums Experience has featured discussions on leadership and the future of the Kalabari people, encouraging participants to reflect on the legacy today's generation will leave behind.

As Kalabari, Rivers State continues to pursue growth and development, TG Eferebo maintains that community dialogue should remain a priority, describing conversation as the first step toward meaningful action.

"Development begins when people are willing to talk, listen, and act together," he said.
