Dreams in Ruins In Borna Boy Community Primary School and others Left to Rot in Rivers Communities

A recent fact-finding inspection has laid bare the severe infrastructural decay plaguing communities in Rivers State Particularly Ahoada West Local Government Area, as critical educational Projects lie completely abandoned and in ruins.

During a fact finding of the area, our team was confronted with the harsh reality of neglected public works, most notably the dilapidated Primary and Secondary Schools in Egbema-Ogbogolo BornaBoy Community, Uyakama, Joinkrama and other communities.

A Failed Promise of Education in the Egbema -Ogbogolo community.
Specifically Egbema-Ogbogolo Primary School, the site is a shadow of what was intended to be a beacon of learning. According to a project signboard still standing on the premises, the construction of the educational block was a joint initiative under the Nigeria-European Union Cooperation.

Today, the reality on the ground is starkly different:

Structural Collapse: The building's roof is severely damaged and entirely blown off in several sections, exposing rotting wooden trusses to the elements.

Uninhabitable Classrooms: The interiors are completely stripped bare. There are no ceilings, doors, windows, or desks—only debris and stained, crumbling concrete walls.

Overgrown Grounds: Thick weeds and tall grass have swallowed the compound, making the school environment completely unsafe and inaccessible for any meaningful educational activity.

For years, the students of Uyakama Primary School faced a daunting reality: pursuing an education in a facility that was crumbling around them.

A Legacy of Neglect
The picture of the school's current state. Classrooms were little more than hollow shells— roofless, windowless, and overtaken by thick, wild vegetation.

Structural Decay: Corroded rafters were exposed to the elements, and walls were stained with years of dampness and mold.

Safety Hazards: Walkways were cracked and blocked by overgrowth, making the environment more like an abandoned ruin than a place of study.

Lack of Resources: Inner rooms were empty of furniture, with dirt floors and crumbling plaster defining the learning environment.

The Cost of Dilapidated as our team worked through weed-infested, ruined sites highlights a broader, systemic issue Dilapidated standard of schools in the region. When critical infrastructure like schools are left to rot, it is the local communities that pay the ultimate price—denied both their basic right to a safe learning environment and the security necessary for community development.

As the inspection concludes, the pressing question for the residents of Egbema-Ogbogolo, Joinkrama (JK) and Uyakama remains: will these schools be revived, or will they continue to serve as monuments to broken promises.

Other Overview of The Findings.

The common theme across all four documented locations is a profound state of disrepair.

These are not merely aged buildings; they are, for the most part, abandoned ruins.
The physical state of the structures indicates long-term abandonment.

We saw:
Structural Failures: Massive roof collapses, leaving only structural walls standing.
Environmental Takeover: Heavy, unchecked overgrowth of grass, bushes, and even mature trees inside and directly around buildings.

In many cases, nature is the most prominent feature of the site.

Lost Utility: Windows, doors, and all internal fixtures are missing, leaving only skeletal concrete shells. The buildings offer no shelter or security.

Safety Hazards: Unstable walls and collapsing roofs make these sites dangerous.
Location-by-Location Assessment

Uyakama Primary School.
State: The multiple views confirm this school is completely dilapidated. The upper sections show a building with its roof entirely gone, leaving only the wall frames. The ground-level views show interior corridors and rooms completely choked with grass and weeds, proving they have not been used for their intended purpose in years.

Jk Boys Secondary School:
State: This site is in an advanced state of nature reclamation. The multiple drone views, particularly the top-down and aerial shots, show buildings that are roofless and structurally weak. Overgrowth is dense, filling the interior spaces of the buildings and completely surrounding them.

The drone views reveal a vast complex of buildings, almost all of which are missing roofs. One key aerial view shows the foundation outlines of other structures, suggesting a much larger facility that is now lost. The site is nearly swallowed by the surrounding forest and grass.

While also roofless and heavily overgrown, this site shows a distinct difference. There is a cluster of people visible in some of the drone images, standing near large piles of sand. This suggests a potential attempt to reclaim or renovate this facility, or perhaps a clearing of the space for alternative use.

However, the existing buildings are currently uninhabitable.

Conclusion
The images document a systematic failure in the maintenance of essential public services. The complete loss of functional schools and healthcare facilities directly impacts a community's ability to educate its children and provide medical care.

The state of these buildings suggests that they have been neglected for at least a decade, with little to no recent intervention.

These images provide powerful visual evidence of an infrastructure crisis in Rivers State..

Nobody Forced Miss Ogadinma Minnie uchechi To Resolve Issues With Aboada West Chairman ~ RELIEF INTERNATIONAL AFRICA

Relief International Africa note with dismay misinformation being peddled in some section of the media and social media that Miss Ogadinma Uchechi Minnie who was allegedly assaulted by the brother to Eugene Chita Epelle Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State was forced to attend a meeting geared towards peaceful resolution of the matter.

We categorically state that Miss Ogadinma Uchechi consented to the peaceful resolution of the issue contrary to speculations that Relief International Africa and Civil Society coalition coerced her to resolve the issue with the Ahoada West Chairman amicably.

For the records The coalition of civil society led by me Comr. Green Isaac, Executive Director of the Relief International Africa and Coordinator of Relief Human Rights Clinic, led her to several, Stakeholders like FIDA and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and represented her on radio and TV stations at no monetary cost to her but from the collective contributions of comrades. God willing, the news got the attention we had hoped for.

Through the aid of an intermediary a negotiation meeting was scheduled between Miss Ogadinma, her representatives and the Ahoada West Local Government Council Chairman. This, Miss Ogadinma agreed to from the onset. The meeting was fixed for 10:00am today Friday March 6 2023.

The Chairman of Ahoada West LG Council and his team were present for the meeting. Members of the civil society coalition alongside Miss. Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi were also present. During the said meeting, the Chairman of Council explained that Miss Ogadinma is his younger sister as they were all members of the same family. He further stated that she is still under his employ and that he has not sacked her. The meeting was largely successful as the terms presented before the Chairman was accepted by him and Miss. Ogadinma.

Please Note that; before the meeting, the Coalition who have always acted as representatives of Miss Ogadinma met with her and asked what her demands were, which was written down and presented to the Chairman.

However, when it came to monetary compensation, the house decided not to impose or influence any amount but allowed Miss Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi and the Chairman to discuss privately and agree on a reasonable amount. After which we reconvened and agreed to end hostilities.
The following terms were agreed;

1. The school will be renovated and the Chairman must do everything possible to see it done without reckoning on whose responsibility it is to renovate schools.

2. The Chairman must see that no further harm befalls Miss Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi and that his supporters must be called to order. He further agreed to call for a general meeting in his village to address the issue as they are from the same village and are members of the same family.

3. A monetary compensation should be given to Miss. Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi for her medical bills and other losses encountered as a result of this matter.

4. The Chairman further accepted to continue to keep her in the staff payroll despite what misunderstanding they may have had.

5. Chairman also, accepted our terms to rent an apartment for her in Portharcourt in the face of turmoil in the village and LGA.

After the meeting, an agreement was written for parties to sign. Miss Ogadinma wrote her account details on a sheet of paper and gave to the Chairman for the said compensation to be paid as agreed between herself and the Chairman. A few minutes later, Miss Ogadinma received a call, she excused herself from the meeting and never came back. What was shocking is that she never at any point expressed dissatisfaction or expressed discomfort during the meeting, not even after she was left with the chairman alone to talk terms contrary to her statement that she was uncomfortable in the course of the meeting and never consented to peaceful resolution of the matter.

Several calls was placed to her but she kept rejecting them. Messages were sent to her and she never replied.

One will ask, if Miss Ogadinma was actually interested in Justice, are the above conditions given and accepted by the chairman not justice for her?

In the light of the above, after due consultation with other members of the coalition, We have decided, it is time to opt out of this particular matter.

Relief International Africa as well as the Coalition of Civil Society on Human Rights remains committed to protecting the rights of the oppressed in the society. Our office is open 24/7 for all types of mediation. [email protected]

LAWYER WITHDRAWS FROM OGADINMA UCHECHI CASE AMIDST ALLEGATIONS OF EXTORTIONATE INTERESTS

Lawyer Withdraws from Ogadinma Uchechi Case Amidst Allegations of Extraneous Interests

A Rivers State-based lawyer, Comrade Chetam Thierry Nwala, has officially pulled out of the case involving Miss Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi and Ahoada West Local Government Council Chairman, Eugene Chita Epelle.

In a statement, Nwala explained that he decided to withdraw after discovering that the issues surrounding the case went beyond the alleged assault and school renovation, and were largely driven by political disagreements. He cited "extraneous interests" and a desire not to get involved in Ahoada West politics or satisfy personal egos.

Nwala's findings and observations include:
"The issues on ground are beyond what we saw on social media as most things were blown out of proportion. Too many lies were told by both parties."

"The issues go beyond the renovation of the said school and alleged assault as that was just a smoke screen to the real issue."

"The issues are more of a political disagreement between the Chairman and the direct Boss of Miss. Ogadinma who nominated her to serve in the Chairman's administration."

"Some persons might be making this issue a cash cow as I suspect that some outrageous financial demands were placed on the table during the meeting."

"The said Miss Ogadinma seems to be confused now with a lot of extraneous interest filtering into what we felt was the main issue."

Nwala emphasized that he did not collect or demand any money from anyone during the case and covered all expenses personally.

He wished Uchechi well in her future endeavors and requested that his decision to withdraw be respected.

Below is his Exact:

UPDATE ON THE MATTER OF MISS OGADINMA MINNIE UCHECHI AND MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

WARNING ⚠️
IF YOU ARE NOT PATIENT ENOUGH TO READ THIS PIECE TO THE END AND ASSIMILATE PROPERLY WITHOUT UNNECESSARY BIAS, KINDLY DO NOT COMMENT.

On Sunday evening, I got several messages and calls from different persons asking me to intervene on the issue between the Ahoada West Local Government Council Chairman, Eugene Chita Epelle and Miss Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi. They wanted justice for Uchechi.

On Monday morning, I called Miss Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi to confirm the story before lending my voice. I did some radio interviews and then published the issue on Facebook.

By Tuesday morning, I and some respected members of the civil society in Rivers State whom she had earlier on Monday ran to and asked to represent her and help her get justice in the matter held a press conference, after which we immediately did a petition on her behalf, based on her instructions, to the Commissioner of Police Rivers State.

On Wednesday, I prepared a Fundamental Rights Enforcement court process on behalf of Miss Ogadinma, with an intention to file on Friday after a review by members of the coalition of Civil Society.

The members of the coalition of civil society led by Mr. Green Isaac, who is the Executive Director of the Relief Human Rights Clinic led her to several radio and TV stations at no monetary cost to her but from the collective contributions of comrades on ground. God willing, the news got the attention we had hoped for.

On Thursday, the civil society was at the FIDA office were she was interviewed. Through the help of a respected journalist, a negotiation meeting was scheduled between Miss Ogadinma, her representatives and the Ahoada West Local Government Council Chairman. This, Miss Ogadinma agreed to from the onset. The meeting was fixed for 10:00am today Friday March 6 2023, but did not start at the said time.

Ogadinma.

Note that, before the meeting, the Coalition who have always acted as representatives of Miss Ogadinma met with her and asked what her demands were, which was written down and presented to the Chairman.

However, when it came to monetary compensation, the house decided not to impose or influence any amount but allowed Miss Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi and the Chairman to discuss privately and agree on a reasonable amount. After which we reconvened and agreed to end hostilities. The following terms were agreed;

What was shocking is that she never at any point expressed dissatisfaction or expressed discomfort during the meeting.

Several calls was placed on her but she kept rejecting them. Messages were sent to her and she never replied.

It should be on record that, while we were seeking justice for Miss Ogadinma, I placed several calls to persons from Ahoada West who are in the same political family as Miss Ogadinma and the Chairman and I got almost the same response.

The following are some of my personal findings and observations;

1. The issues on ground are beyond what we saw on social media as most things were blown out of proportion. Too many lies were told by both parties.

2. The issues goes beyond the renovation of the said school and alleged assault as that was just a smoke screen to the real issue.

3. The issues are more of a political disagreement between the Chairman and the direct Boss of Miss. Ogadinma who nominated her to serve in the Chairman's administration. As they have had similar issues in January.

4. Some persons might be making this issue a cash cow as I suspect that some outrageous financial demands were placed on the table during the meeting.
5. The said Miss Ogadinma seems to be confused now with a lot of extraneous interest filtering into what we felt was the main issue.

In the light of the above, I have after consultation with some mentors decided to OFFICIALLY PULL OUT of the matter as I do not want to join in the mulky waters of Ahoada West politics or satisfy anybody's ego.

Let it be on record that I did not collect neither did I demand for any money from anyone during the cause of this matter. All expenses made by me was done from my personal pocket.

I wish Miss Ogadinma well in her future endeavors.

PLEASE THIS WILL BE MY LAST ON THIS MATTER AND I URGE YOU ALL TO RESPECT MY DECISION.

Nobody Beat Her. If You See My Younger Brother, Blowing Ninehe, She Will Not Survive It — Hon Epelle

Ahoada West Local Government Council Chairman in Rivers State, Eugene Chita Epelle, has dismissed allegations that he assaulted a young woman identified as Ninehe, arguing that if his brother, Monday Chita Epelle, had truly punched the woman, she would not have survived the impact because of the physical difference between them.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Hon Epelle insisted that the claims circulating online misrepresent what actually happened. The controversy began after Ninehe accused the council chairman and his brother, Monday, of attacking her at her residence following a social media post she made about the poor condition of a secondary school in Oduoku.

However, Epelle rejected the accusations and explained that he had not led any group of thugs to the woman’s house, stating that he was only with his driver, his younger brother Monday, and another council official.

He said the incident happened coincidentally when the woman’s mother waved at him while he was passing by. He said they had known each other since childhood and often interacted as neighbors.

He revealed that during their discussion, he simply asked the mother to advise her daughter to delete the controversial social media post because the young woman worked as his aide and she's on his payroll.

Epelle stated that the situation escalated when Ninehe came out of the house and began shouting at him, questioning his authority to ask her to take down the post. He said she repeatedly used insulting language toward him despite her mother’s attempts to calm the situation.

He explained that his younger brother became angry after seeing the woman pointing her fingers at the face of the local government chairman and pushed the woman during the argument. The council chairman insisted that the injury the woman displayed resulted from her accidentally biting her lip during the brief push, not from any beating
